My wife wanted to call our (potential, at the time) son Phoenix. The surname is Knight.
I had to point out why this would be a bad idea in detail before she’d relent. I’m guessing the wife is to blame in the example given.

I went to uni with a Robin Hood who actually came from Nottingham. He didn’t seem to mind the name and we didn’t make a big deal of it.

The surname was Daniels.
Also knew someone called Merlin. Thought it was a nickname for a long time but nope, hippy parents.

A guy I used to work with's middle name was Myrddin, the Welsh form of Merlin, and I didn't actually know this until only time it ever came up in conversation when we were talking about Stargate SG-1 and how Daniel Jackson butchered the pronunciation of it in an episode.
