The ME2 combat definitely was a bit monotonous and tended to go on for too long (and 3) but it felt heavier and more satisfying, plus the side mission were so much more fleshed out. Aside from the main missions, the side stuff in ME1 felt like going to the same warehouse about 20 times, killing some people, getting a sentence pop up on the screen to tell you you did something and that's it. And I'm somewhat of a completionist so I did all of them. I think if you got rid of the side missions (or made them better) it would be more replayable. The combat was never the draw for me in ME though, it's all about the characters and stories - like JRPGs, the combat for me is just a way to spend time with your party members and bond outside the story. My main recollection of the combat in ME3 is grenades. So, so many grenades. I should say, I played the soldier class in all 3 games - wanted to use all the weapons. Turns out the sniper rifle is all you really need.
edit: I feel like you probably romanced Garrus. I'm not even sure why I think that

I never romanced Garrus. The only ME romance I ever cared about was Jack.

I'm disappointed but I'm also glad Jack found someone

I was team Jack too. Never knew I had a thing for shaved head and tattoo covered women.

Tali. I was actually really impressed with how they handled the romance stuff in Mass Effect 2 and 3, especially 3. It wasn't just a case of saying "I love you" and then never talking about it again. There were lots of bits of dialogue spread throughout the game that felt really organic and quite touching as they weren't expected.
I think we need a who did you romance in Mass Effect poll

Jack is great, one of the few normal persons in games I can relate to. What I really liked is that she gives you the chance to just bang her and that ends the romance. I didn't want to fuck her, I actually cared about her, so I refused and it turned out great.

What about the game where all they were doing is having sex with each other, think it's called Mass Erect. That ones Mass Debate.

Tali was sweet and smart, had an accent, great design, bit of mystery and I really liked the quarians and their backstory with the Geth, the Migrant Fleet and their home planet. Seeing how much more confident she had become in her introductory scene in ME2 was a great moment too

As an aside, I gad a weird hankering for marmite today, despite previously hating it.
Bought a tub of the reduced salt version, and i appear to quite like it now.
All very odd. Is my body saying 'fire some b vitamins into you', or is the reduced salt version less vile than the OG version?

Someone should definitely make a procedural crime show about a forensic team who solve crimes by looking at old poo. Anyone think of any titles for the show? Cold Case : The Stool Files On topic, I like it

My stepdad used to spread regular marmite like it was fucking nutella and wondered why we started retching after a bite of the sandwich. You can use R.S. marmite (or the supermarket stuff) like that and it's just about bearable. Not sure how it behaves on one's anus though

I preferred ME2 because it had more interesting characters, or at least, explored the different characters in more interesting ways.
I can forgive an RPG a lot of if it has good characters and writing.

Stick your fingers in the jar and then eat them. Free Twiglets

ME2 had some great characters, but I feel like ME1 is not given enough credit for its characters. I mean, Garrus, Liara, Tali were created in ME1. Wrex is bloody awesome, and his "the lines are beginning to blur" confrontation is brilliant. Ashley is actually a deep character if you care.

Twiglets are best when they're a bit stale, which they often are for some reason. It's like those peanut Nakd bars - sometimes they're great, sometimes there's too many nuts and they're all crumbly and rubbish. I've started feeling through the packets to try and work out if it's a good or bad batch. What happened to snack consistency?

I didn't like many of the new characters in 2, felt there were too many and I'd already bonded with the original, almost perfect, cast. Agree that Ashley was interesting, which is why I liked talking to her
I pretty much had Garrus and Tali in my party for most of the game, switching it up now and then but worrying I was missing tiny pieces of dialogue from those two, so going back to my A team. I wish they'd upped the party limit to 4

I had some glassware delivered last year that came packaged in basically wotsits. A big fuck off box full of what looked like polystyrene packaging peanut things...but were eco-friendly and were disposed of by melting them in the sink with water. Was impressed, would use again. AA+++

Question for the hive mind. When transporting a PS5 back via plane travel what would you suggest is the best option? Bubble wrapped in a suitcase? Kept in a rucksack as part of carry on luggage?

If you can get away with carry-on then do that, otherwise as much bubble wrap as you can afford, the luggage gets slung around like a squashball
