Which has a Lightning connector. Which means you'll need the new USB-C to Apple Pencil adapter. Wow, that's some genius thinking there from Apple. That said, I use a lightning cable from Poundland with a phone charger to charge my first gen pencil half the time (using the little white adapter that came with the pencil). Sticking it in the iPad to charge is equally genius. I mean, it'll do but it's just unwieldy and could result in broken sockets or pencils if anything happens to them while connected. They'll come up with a mouse that can't be charged the right way round next. |

Yes it is inelegant, but at least it enabled you to charge the pencil in a pinch on the go. Even if you only had the iPad and the Pencil with you. Until now. The inductive charging of the Pencil 2 is just so much better. The new iPad even has the flat sides which would be a prerequisite of using the Pencil 2. |

There's a M2 version of the 12.9 inch iPad Pro running DaVinci Resolve. Price for the 1TB version is £2,049. That's steep.
But I'm genuinely interested with what they're doing with Resolve, how it'll run and integration with desktop version etc. I'm still running off my first gen iPad Air after my first gen 12.9 iPad Pro got bent. I'll probably go for a refurbed 12.9 pre-M1.

Just made an astonishing discovery on my iPhone.
I’ve been having issues with the autocorrect for a while now. In the last few years I’ve continually made spelling errors where before I didn’t make any, really. I assumed it was just my fat fingers or getting old or something.
Then yesterday I saw a Hacker News post on the same thing and switched the following to “off”:
Settings - Keyboard - Slide to Type
And fuck me, 99% of my typing problems are solved!
(Although I still have fat fingers)
(Not King Charles fat, mind)

I actually tried switching it off for an hour or so after reading the above, but it didn’t help with my typing errors, and I immediately missed it being on for the words and phrases I use it for. A few months ago, I also tried the setting where the keyboard moves over to one side or the other, but that didn’t help either! |

Macbook Pro arrived yesterday. Top marks to DHL for shifting it from Hong Kong on Thurs morning to my work (north Scotland) by midday Friday. Those who predicted that I wouldn't be upset with it are spot on  There are so many aspects to it that are seriously impressive that it's difficult to single any out. |

I am also very impressed with my new work 14" MBP – it replaces a MY2015 13" model, which I'd put up with for slightly too long. I am greatly enjoying being able to multitask efficiently again; a battery which lasts nearly two days; and a noticable lack of fan noise during video calls. |

Glad y'all are getting along well with it. I'm fucking loving the fact that I don't even need to carry the power supply when I go into work any more. That's even with some fairly heavy code compilation days. It feels like from this point onwards it's seriously diminishing returns. They've made the keyboard good again. The screens are top notch. The battery is more than good enough. The performance is stellar. It doesn't overheat or deafen with the fans. They put HDMI back on the fucker. The storage is blistering.
Sure the M2 and on will also amaze, storage will come down in price so you'll get more for the same RRP, etc. etc. But at the fundamental level - for what I do - I think that's all just going to be unnecessary icing on the best cake of the last decade.
I guess it'd be nice if it wasn't pointless for modern gaming. That's maybe the only serious negative.

I’m actually losing my mind here.
I’ve got an iPhone 13 and Apple Watch 6.
I keep getting long stretches of time where Message notifications don’t go off, and I’ll randomly look at my phone to see on my Lock Screen that I’ve got 10 new messages from an annoyed wife that I didn’t know about.
I’ve gone through all the obvious settings but I’m certain I’ve found a bug. It seems specifically related to when I’m wearing my watch - the problem manifests as my phone has silently received the notification because it thinks my watch is handling it; but the notification is nowhere to be seen on my watch, even if I then swipe down to check Notification Centre etc.
However if I go all the way to the message app on the watch, the new messages are there and are highlighted.
Has this happened to anyone else? I’m completely stumped. This has been going on over a few OS versions too

I had the watch drop connections like that, needed a shutdown of both phone and watch to fix it

Yeah, if you hold your thumb down on the home screen a 'customise' option comes up. tap that, then home screen, then tap the clock.
I actually really like the change of font because Im blind and refuse to get varifocals.

It's awful isn't it but until I saw your post just now it didn't occur to me that I could change it. Anyway, I worked it out... Unlock, but don't go to your 'desktop' Press on the 'clock' screen so 'Customise' button appears. Press that and play with the settings - I just went to change colour as I don't bother with photos etc. You then get an option to change the clock, by pressing on that when highlighted, so you can edit the font etc. |

As a doting father, I appreciate the depth effect of the lock screen wallpaper of my kid. Having the photo subject against a plain background - and being able to change the background colour - really makes the photo pop.

The new Lock Screen thingy is aces.
I have two: one for daytime and one for “Do Not Disturb”, each showing relevant information.
Swapping between the two actually toggles the Do Not Disturb. Grand!

What I don't like, right, is that the supplied wallpapers no longer dim at sunset. I really liked that setting and its absence must be a regression… I've tried an automation to change it to something darker, but the UI is pretty unintuitive, and I can't suss how to pick the image I want it to change to :/
