Am watching Silo atm and mostly enjoying it. We'll see. It's 7/10 territory currently. Story is very intriguing. But the acting is on the wooden side and the irony of AppleTV looking so sexy on my new telly is that sets and costumes become really noticeable. It takes me out of the show when I notice that a huge metal door is made out of polystyrene or something. Just get your optician to give your prescription a nudge in the wrong direction (or just keep ageing and don’t do anything about it) so everything you watch is a little blurry again… simples I was hyped for Silo (great start!) then quickly realised it is mostly just another crime drama shrink wrapped into an apocalyptical setting. Agreed acting is a bit wooden and not many likeable characters to root for… 7/10 fair

The character development really pays off towards the end of the season when things start to come together a bit more. Basically stick with it.

If anyone is wondering, the author of the books that Silo is based on is a fan of Fallout 1 and 2.
It's not exactly surprising.

Something a bit different is Platonic, Seth Rogan is a bit OTT sometimes but it is settling into a nice relaxing watch and a bit of laughter. It's primarily about how relationships change as you grow up (or not)

3 days into a 7 day free trial I'm trying to get through as much of the interesting looking stuff as possible. Done Silo and Black Bird. Bugger me though Severance is NOT what I expected - in a good way. I'm not necessarily going to be a free trial exploiter but another recommendation or two I might be able start. Calls is really good imo. Servant is absoluteeeee dogshit.

I’m in love with Rose Byrne but I also cannot bear more than a few seconds of Seth Rogen, I struggled getting to the end of the trailer of Platonic. I really want to try it though, because as I say, I’m in love with Rose Byrne and I’ll watch pretty much any old shite she’s in

That throaty stoner chuckle he does makes me want to jam needles into my eardrums.

I’m enjoying Platonic, but then those stoner comedies are one of my guilty pleasures.

Shrinking is a great comedy on there, they've started to build up a strong catalogue of stuff.

Wow. Severance is brilliant. Just finished the first season and what a great slow build up throughout to a great finale.
Loving all the philosophy, mystery, liminal set design, humanity (frugal in the right areas), and basically the critique of capitalism through the experience of people. The little marketing for it I saw really mislead me.
Apparently season 2 is delayed due to the writers strikes in America and fair play but I will actually sub to 🍏 when it finally comes out.
Succession is still my favourite of recent times but that had 4 amazing seasons to build on stuff and they aren't comparable in style at all. Who needs faves....?, love them both.

Apple TV is also home to an improving library of films and decent documentaries. Not to mention Pachinko, in my opinion the best new show of the last couple of years.

Just discovered a 6 month free trial of Apple TV if you have a PS5 (3 months on PS4) in the nick of time. The offer runs out at the end of July.
Bit faffy setting it up but it works even if you've previously done a 7 day trial. Nice.
Can also then get MLS season pass currently at £39 (as the season is half done) which is tempting with Messi about to debut. I believe they do some free games too.

I had a Barclaycard 6 month trial and added that PS5 one a while ago. It’s worth trying any free trials you come across as many as some time.
I’ve got it free until May next year at the moment.

Finally watched the last episode of Silo. Feel that it was about as good as the source allows, assuming they stuck as closely as is suggested - when your big baddies are banking on dodgy sellotape and nobody mouthing anything into a camera to ensure their house of cards doesn't come tumbling down and a society that recycles everything has the material to make fancy-looking space suits on demand feels very much in YA fiction territory. Silly but watchable. The vault from Fallout 3 where it all went wrong was better. 7/10.

Despite having the Silo writer involved, the show is well short of the first book, which is poor considering how easy that first book was in turning into good tv.

I'm really sensitive to accents, so Silo's actors pull me out of the narrative all the time. Rebecca Ferguson's American accent is atrocious, she slips into "British" (ironically since she isn't) for too often. The first mayor was also terrible.

Yeah I agree.
The worst for me is Martha the old dear in mechanical. She's Mrs Logan Roy in Succession where she has a super plumy English accent and also Villanelle's mum in Killing Eve where she puts on a heavy Russian accent. So hearing her terrible American accent is very weird.
I haven't watched Silo for a couple of weeks after an absolute filler episode when I last watched. Need to push through mind as sounds like the ending is better.

Just finished Silo and enjoyed it very much. I refused to wait for future seasons so just read the plot of the books Be interesting to see how the TV show develops cause it has deviated from the book a little.

Doesn't stack on top of the other two freebies I've got going unfortunately. Was worth a shot.

The Afterparty Season 2 is great so far. For anyone looking for a murder mystery comedy.

Episode 1 was better than anything from the first series (which I also enjoyed). So good. Slowly going to get our way through the rest of it when we want a bit of comic relief.

Any fans of Invasion? The promo for season 2 makes it look quite face paced and energetic but I tried S1 Ep 1 and found it a struggle.

Finished Hijack last night. What a load of shit. I thought Apple were going for HBO levels? This wouldn’t have been out of place on ITV or Channel 5. First episode had some promise but it just gets less and less believable as it goes in and by the end pretty much nothing any character does makes sense. Acting is woeful for the most part as well. Total waste of time.
