It does actually sit as second worst game of the year for XSX on Metacritic. Only beaten out by Wanted: Dead at 60 to it's 62. The Witcher Complete Edition is apparently XSX's best game...a nearly 8 year old game. It's the lowest rated Xbox published title since 2020, and certainly the worst high profile and mass-marketed title this year (with the exception of maybe Blood Bowl 3 but I would argue that is nowhere near the same profile or reach). But regardless of the actual score data it's simply unfinished. It's not people hating on it unfairly. You cannot put it next to any other major title this year and have it compare favourably. I watched the Easy Allies impressions video last night, and you can tell that both guys don't want to slag it off (EZA try to keep on the good side of every company in the industry as good practice) but the tone of the video and the disappointment from both of them having so little that's good to say about it is almost as damning as the reviewers that are just calling it straight. I quite like Phil - he doesn't shy away from answering hard questions and tends not to use PR speak as much as other people in the industry.
Still, I don't think he's got long left in the position he's in after the last couple of years for Xbox.

Also "Average Game Pass annual subscriber growth for last 3 years was 50.4%. Xbox content and services revenue was $12.7 billion in fiscal year 2022. Game Pass subscribers spend 50% more on games, add-ons, and in-game purchases." Not too shabby if you look past the usual hyperbole games media reports. So yeah it isn't great on the first party front but it's been a very successful few years. Series s was the most sold console last year. Yeah probably cos of availability but sold more than switch and ps consoles.

I did read what was probably more speculation than anything that he will be moving onto something else no matter the outcome of the Activision deal.

Xbox console sales are down 30% year on last year, and the Activision sale has been halted. It's not hyperbole, it's info MS are reporting themselves. I'm sure he'll be fine but there will likely be some corporate adjustments being looked at.

Their first party content hasn't set the world alight which is what sells consoles. It hasn't been a successful few years at all

Fuck, IGN gave it a 4/10. When IGN are ragging on you then you know it's over.

Phil just had NO IDEA, he’s been knee deep in gaming for decades but just COULD NOT PREDICT it wasn’t a decent game. Must be hard, poor Phil, definitely need to revisit those processes old chap.

Doesn't work for me. I'm assuming as it's that always online bit where you have to be logged in to Bethesda net.

I've downloaded this but not touched it yet, bitterly disappointed with the reviews and I just don't have the time to spend on a 6/7 out of 10 game nowadays.
There's so much good stuff out there already and Zelda's out next week.

Yeah. Very interesting to read that kind of admission actually.
Personally I think there's enough here that they can make into a decent game. Patch the AI, drip feed more content, more emergent content. Add new abilities / characters over time. I think it could be fairly decent. I don't think it'll ever be great, but I like to think there's the bones here for something cool. We've seen games evolve over time to be quite far removed from how they launched.
Depends on if they want to though. It also doesn't excuse it for shipping in this state of course. I also think that us gamers are now sick of having a half finished game at launch, only to wait 1-2 years for it to be close to what was promised.

He always does the Good Guy Phil stuff after the event, they didn’t meet targets, didn’t meet expectations, he’s just as disappointed as you guys. He’s been in charge for ten years, does he need 11 before his company is *finally* doing things properly and churning out the AAA he needs? No. This is just PR guff, he knew exactly what he was selling and how far from good it was- he’s disappointed in the press not letting them get away with it this time, he’s not about to bring a 4 pack around and personally make it up and he’s still buying that (weird) $1000 dollar leather jacket and fucking Britney next week. He seems to get away with this shit because he wears a T-Shirt and pops out a crocodile tear when he feels it’ll go down well.

The interview was ok, but I feel like I've been hearing this kind of thing from Microsoft for a looooong time now. "We hear you" "we apologise" "we'll do better next time" but so far next time keeps kicking the can down the road and I don't think many people who have Xbox consoles as their only device or people who are deciding whether to pick one of the three consoles are convinced. It's going to take a hell of a lot of work to get people to trust that they won't release shit. I can't imagine the pressure on every other first party studio with the Xbox studio group to deliver now after this debacle.

They have released a couple of excellent games already this year, then they release one shit one and everyone is going on about how terrible they are. Feel there is a massive overreaction to a bad game.

Is it an overreaction though? Redfall took me to dinner and NEVER called me back. How does that sit with you Frog eh? Knowing I've been ghosted.
