Anyone else read the prog? I resubscribed back in 2012 thanks to the Dredd movie (shame it never got a sequel IMO) after stopping reading way back in the 1990s
There have been periods of brilliance in the last few years, pretty much anything Dan Abnett writes is a standout (Brink is one of the best strips there has ever been in the prog IMO)
Dredd is still going strong, John Wagner writes the occasional story which are usually head and shoulders above any of the other writers they draft in.

Not read it in decades.
I did briefly try to get my lad i to it, with minimal interest. I should maybe try again for a few weeks to see if any of the current stories take.
Is the megazine still on the go? That used to be pretty decent too.

Yeah the Megazine is still running, it's had it's great moments recently too.
How old is your little 'un? They have been doing special 'regened' issues periodically in the last few years, that are aimed at a slightly younger audience. Those have been collected into graphic novels too, I think

It must be close to 20 years since I've partaken. I thought the quality of the writing and art just wasn't there anymore. Dredd was generally always solid, aside from the odd blip, I just couldn't justify the cost anymore to get a few pages of Dredd and a load of other stuff I mostly didn't want to read.
2012 Dredd was great, I wish there'd been a sequel.

Yeah, there are strips in the current issues that I just skip, as they just aren't that good. Always gonna get that with an anthology so I don't mind. Generally the good stuff outweighs the bad. |

I inherited a huge bunch that probably covered most of the 80s to mid 90s off a friend years ago. Sorted and read them and then passed them onto my younger brother to do likewise. Never really kept up with newer stuff but got the Deadworld graphic novels for Xmas and bought myself the Nemesis the Warlock volumes.

Haven't read it in years myself but used to absolutely love it. My (much) older bro had a stack of them going back to prog 1 at our gran's house, so any time we went to visit I'd dive in and get totally lost in it for hours on end.
Keep meaning to read America, so will tackle that asap.
Think I've still got a copy of prog 1000 somewhere, and I bought a copy of the prog from the day I was born a while back.

Yeah the 80s really was the golden age of 2000AD. It completely lost its way in the 90s, but since Rebellion took over 20 years ago it's been going through a bit of a renaissance. The current Tharg has been in the job for a long time now and has a good eye for spotting new writers and artists. Even through the pandemic they've put out an issue every week with no real drop in quality. The weekly prog has been a godsend for me over the last couple of years

I don’t read the weekly progs but the collected editions are my go to when I’m reading comics.
Some great newer titles alongside the classics. Brink is excellent, Thistlebone as well for some perfect folk-horror, Lawless from the Megazine, Zombo is dumb metal chaos.
I’m enjoying the Essential Dredd collections at the moment. Much prefer dipping into individual arcs than plowing through the Complete Casefiles.
The Treasury of British Comics imprint Rebellion is running alongside 2000ad has uncovered some tremendous lost classics like 13th Floor too.

As other, pretty much all the 80s and 90s, issues 200 to 1000 give or take. I think the highlights for me were around 500-600 when Bad Company appeared, and Bisleys ABC Warriors and Johnny Alpha, and then we got Crisis, Deadline and the Megazine too. Still got all those.
Halo Jones FTW though.

I loved Simon Davis' art on Thistlebone. Didn't really like him on Slaine, but his painterly style really works for the horror stuff

I tried to get back into it recently, and tried to get my boys into it, but couldn't interest them. It's quite adult now. My wife's mate did the music for the film (the good one). He was in Glasgow at the time, but has buggered off to LA to be a big shot. Did a lot of the score for for Cyberpunk 2077. Decent bloke. The Johnny Alpha and Rogue Trooper fan films. Minty and SD are the same team, Rogue I think is someone else but the same sfx guy helped on them all (could be wrong about that). He’s always posting designs and models and stuff on the Judge Minty facebook page. Someone should give him a job.

Proof of concept type thing Rebellion did using the home studio they built for the Mega City One tv show. I think I read its the same tech as Disney used for Mandalorian or a similar principle at least.
Hopefully MC1 happens or we’ll just have to watch Space Precinct and stretch our imaginations the rest of the way.

Zenith & HJ also great stuff! Speaking of Deadline, I still pine for that tbh. It filled a great space in the market & I really wish they hadn't gone all in on the turgid Tank Girl film and gone tits up |

It's a real shame Rebellion aren't better game developers as there are some incredible games that could be made with 2000AD's IP. A GTA style game set in Mega City One, just imagine

A GTA style game set in Mega City One, just imagine They made a big show of putting out an open call for devs who wanted to use 2000ad characters around the time of Rogue Trooper Redux but its gone quiet since then. So much potential and all we get is the occasional mobile game. |

Talking of Deadline I recently found a box of back issues I'd forgotten about, revisiting it is certainly interesting but Tank Girl is about the only thing it had going for it. It was in that awkward space between 2000AD and some sort of pop culture magazine.
Let's go even more obscure, does anybody remember Diceman? Fleetway's attempt to get in on the popularity of Fighting Fantasy and role playing games. It used a lot of 2000AD properties like Judge Dredd, Slaine and Nemesis and due to the format it's probably never been reprinted. I think it got up to five issues before folding, I have them somewhere.
