I'm intrigued as to how they're going to do the combat. I know it has its detractors, including in this thread, but I really liked the real-time with pause of the original game. I can't imagine KotOR as an action game, where you won't get to control the rest of your party.
If aspyr do what Bluepoint have done with SotC and Demon's for example, then you can only assume/hope they'll make it look lovely, but not stray too far from what was there originally for its systems. Perhaps even add a turn-based combat option in the menu to let the player decide, as some other similar games have done.

Yeah, I'm certain it's likely aged poorly but the real time/pause combat system was something I really enjoyed at the time. Would be a shame if it was ditched in favour of pure action--though I can't see them really getting away with entirely removing party control.

I hope they don’t make it a pure action game either.
It’s a shame we didn’t see any gameplay and with no release date it will be a long time before we do get to see how it plays.
Can’t wait though.

I just can't see them showing off these potentially amazing environments and updated characters and then show combat footage of your party standing 6 feet away from the enemy missing blaster shots. I dont think D&D combat plays well with a general audience in this day and age.

Unless they do something like FF7 Remake it’ll be an awkward fit to make it an action game, retain control of the party and any of the feel if the original.
I liked being able to pause and issue commands. It was basically a more casual CRPG system in 3D.

I didn't try the FF7 remake, and I appreciate the original was obviously a very different game from KOTOR, but how did they handle party swapping in the new action combat for FF7?

Few reports that it's going to be a multiplayer shooter intertwined with the RPG stuff and "strong story elements".

I suspect Kotor has become an object of veneration from afar rather than something people actually still play. There really isn't any thread developers can catch onto to update the battle system because there's nothing there to start with. The IGN play guide is hilarious, I'll lay some 'pro' level Kotor strategy on you. If you don't equip weapons... Gasp! You'll lose. Now this is vitally important, melee and ranged attacks. You'll need to switch to a ranged weapon to do ranged attacks! If you keep trying to do them with a melee weapon... You'll lose.
This is big brain, big boy stuff. Not one of those *hock* *spit* JRPGs where subtle player choices can change the tide of battle, we're doing this the Kotor way. Is your level high enough? Then just keep on attacking. Brute force baby.
Kotor's battle system is so vapid, shallow and dumb there's nothing to work with, they'll probably switch out for some sort of Mass Effect style action system, modern controllers have so many buttons it's not like you need to pause to equip and use grenades etc.

IGN reporting that Jennifer Hale will be reprising her role for this. I hope most of the cast do come back too. Canderous, HK-47, Jolee, Malek. These voices have to be the same.

If they're rerecording all the dialogue then it's obviously a proper ground up remake. Wasn't there rumours going around a while back saying it was going to be a combination of the 2?

Come to think of it I can see it following the Dragon Age / Mass Effect path for combat and action. Mass Effect grew out of KOTOR afterall.

I'm not going to hold my breath on this. The fact a supposed complete remake of such a well regarded game has been palmed off to a dev that basically just ports old games doesnt exactly fill me with confidence this isn't going to be half-arsed.

There's something comforting in seeing angry neckbeards get furious about the canonicity and sanctity of space wizards. Makes me feel like I've accomplished something in life to not be like that.

Oh ffs, gonna see these dickheads in every comment section. It is interesting though, certainly suggests they will be adding to if not changing aspects to the story.

Much of the first game's plot is wank TBF.

Much of the first game's plot is wank TBF. It may not have been perfect, but it did have one of the greatest twists in any game plot. This person is probably the type who thinks the sequel trilogy is the pinnacle of Star Wars. With her in charge the best we can hope for is a solid combat system. The story will be shite.

The story is also absolute pish outside of that, it's generic sci fi war nonsense with a sprinkling of random SW lore.
A fantastic game, but let's not pretend like the story was some immutable legendary text that can't be dramatically improved upon.

I never played the original so well interested in this, what was so great about it? It was a great RPG that basically made Bioware, and had the first decent, original Star Wars IP in a long while* bolted on top. *The world was still reeling from the prequels and Hayden, which probably boosted its popularity somewhat

KotOR is essentially the blueprint for Mass Effect. In fact, if I remember correctly, Mass Effect only came about because Bioware couldn't get the Star Wars licence for KotOR 3.

Really excited for this but feel a little like it can't really be done right. I adored this at the time, one of the best of the generation and still look back on it fondly, but it's so old. I hope they capture what made it special without messing about too much.

How did I miss this news, awesome. If only PS5s were available here, amazon is shilling them for 1000 euro now at least so maybe it's getting closer.
