Out of interest, is anyone still browsing the main RPS site?
I realised I hadn't been there for ages, probably because I wasn't on the forum to remind me. I checked it out and there were actually some interesting articles and reviews and stuff... so I really should try to remember to check it out from time to time.

I still have RPS in my RSS feed, but I really only read the reviews and the occasional news article.

Haven't been back since the exodus. I never really got warm with the new front page anyway.

I still browse the /Latest page once a day and I've done the feedback questionnaire they've posted. For what that's worth anyway.
I really should set up an rss reader. Any recommendations for one that's either a plugin to Firefox or is platform agnostic between Windows and Linux?

I just go to any articles that catch my eye from the RSS feed. One or two a day at most.
ETA I use feedly. Not sure if it's platform agnostic but it's online so I guess so.

My issue with feed readers was that the ever growing 'unread' count just made it more like trying to clear out my inbox, and less fun. I always wanted one that just presented me with a selection of articles each day, without any counting.

I've not gone back since they shut the forums. Not out of spite or anything, but I just hadn't been enjoying the content for a while and it was more of a final nail in the coffin thing for me.

If anyone is a supporter it seems todays letter from the editor is mostly about egx. I wonder if they'll be allowed to acknowledge the failure of the recent event to meet the expectations of those who attended?

How are all you ex RPS fuckers finding us ex EG fuckers then? Is it like a school disco with two distinct cohorts at opposite sides of the forum? Or is it more like those crazy orgies we all attended in our Uni days where it's just a giant fleshy fuck-fest?

How are all you ex RPS fuckers finding us ex EG fuckers then? I wasn't deep into RPS culture before the shutdown, because I have only joined the forum quite recently, so don't take it as a statement from that community, just a personal opinion: RPS was dedicated to the glorious PC masterrace. This forum here is infested with console muggles. It's bearable, though, just have to remove my bowtie before mingling with the rabble.

I wonder if they'll be allowed to acknowledge the failure of the recent event to meet the expectations of those who attended? Not gonna copy the whole thing, but here's the first paragraph about EGX: The rest is going through the things that were there and talking about it moving to Birmingham next year. The last third of the post is about other RPS stuff. Out of interest, is anyone still browsing the main RPS site? I realised I hadn't been there for ages, probably because I wasn't on the forum to remind me. I checked it out and there were actually some interesting articles and reviews and stuff... so I really should try to remember to check it out from time to time. I've scrolled through now and then but haven't read much. I filled in the reader questionnaire last weekend which honestly felt kind of sad. "Would you like videos not to auto-play as a subscriber perk?". Beurk.
I was an early RPS supporter but let my sub lapse 3-4 years ago. Then after Graham made a post about what they wanted to do this year, I figured that I should put my money where my mouth is and re-sub. For sure I've also changed in the past 10 years, but the site hasn't really been taking steps in the direction I'd like to see. I don't have anything against any of the writers, but the only on-staff writer I'm excited to read these days is Alice B, and it feels ever-more like I'm having to wade through things that don't interest me to get to the few things that do. I was hopeful that things might turn around a little this year, but it's gotten further away from what I like. And they upped the sub cost from $50 to $80, which is not worth it despite the subscriber content having more of what I enjoy reading.
So yeah, probably won't sub again and I'm not sure I'll keep reading much at all once it runs out.

It's a bit overwhelming logging in to find so many threads with replies, ours would have half a dozen a day max. So far we seem to be mingling well. You may notice in the various what are you watching/readin/playing threads our posts are a bit longer form but nobody seems to have objected. It feels like we're learning from each other, RPSers helping in the recommend me a pc/laptop thread and I'm learning more about my newly acquired series s (first console,) from your side.

I checked it out and there were actually some interesting articles and reviews and stuff... so I really should try to remember to check it out from time to time. Still check there pretty much every day, although I read far less articles than used to. Back when they were independent, I likely would have read everything posted, but with the increased volume of posts I ended reading far less. For the past year or two it is mostly deals and news pieces with little commentary. Death of the forum has really made me less interested in checking the site. Mostly just because I've realised that was were I spent most of time on the site and little because of the manner of the deletion (don't believe there was even a front page post to announce it). Still really like the writers. Alice B is great and I've very much enjoyed Ed's writing, even if he regularly writes about things I'm not hugely interested in. It is rare that when I do read something on there I feel it was bad. I just feel they are writing about things they have to write about rather than what they want to write about. It seems to be the direction most written games journalism is going though, likely because it is the only way they can get any money. Having said that though, RPS doesn't even seem to do larger in-depth pieces that other places occasionally do, such as Eurogamer's environmental impact of all digital gaming. Something like that would have been right at home in the RPS of old. I did fill out the recent read survey and it was certainly more negative than I have been in the past. Not sure what alternative site I would go to though. I check gameindustry.biz ever so often, as that is good source for industry insider info. Occasionally look at Eurogamer. Just started looking at John Walker's Buried Treasure site, although that is only reviews and quite infrequent posting. Was considering getting a subscription to Edge magazine, as their monthly release schedule might me they are less focused on hype and more on retrospectives and quality writing, but not read th before.

Interestingly, a few days ago there were posts from Jim, Matt Cox, Brendy and someone else I forget. It felt like a reunion.
Sin still continues to crank our good stuff.

Yeah, the pace and number of replies is a bit overwhelming. Post a comment and when I come back the next day there have been 3 pages of subsequent comments. On the RPS forum there would have bee 3 subsequent comments And things are spread over way more forums. But everyone seems cool.
Oh, and the C Word gets used a lot more here. We were more PC.

When I was a user at the, now defunct, Star Wars message boards, you could see seventeen pages of replies if you went off for a few hours. It felt like the place I fitted in most. No life thirty year old fans chatting shit, serious crap and the absurd. Less active online now, at fifty, I am just tired all the time.

I used to hang out on the Star Wars message boards too, if it's the same ones. Not that I remember much about them, except spending most of the time arguing about politics in the off-topic board.

I spent most of my time there getting drunk, high then banned. Usually in Off Topic, arguing politics, religion and science. We may have crossed paths at some point, so please accept my apologies.

On PC Vs console, I think actually most people on here don't play games (anymore), probably mainly because there is no time left after you factor in posting on the forum.

One huge upside of this place is its dedicated Star Trek thread, so I don't have to keep chasing all the nerds out the more general telly threads

I kind of like the increased business compared to RPS but I'm pleased our longer, less frequent posts are here too.

When you say everything is spread over more forums, does that mean you don't just go straight to your recent bookmark?
You don't even have a recent bookmark do you, you animal!

I'm enjoying the move here.
It definitely took me a bit of time to get used to the pace of response here, as I'm used to the slower RPS pace. It felt a bit like moving from a local countryside pub, where you recognise everyone's face, and switching it up to a Vodka Revs in Milton Keynes. But without the sticky floors and roundabouts.
