Site stats?! Ffs, craigy gave you guys the platinum service! No wonder he never finished mobile view. Nah, the forum itself got an overhaul in 2017, switching over to Discourse. The change was off-putting to a lot of people but the system definitely has a lot more modern conveniences. Yeah, this was meant in jest more than anything. I think changing the EG forum would've caused a lot of upset. Tbf, the EG forum had a very clean look. It was very easy to read and skim lots of posts. It's basically been replicated here as closely as possible, but with added features that ProBoards offers.

It just needed a working search function, proper portable mode and a few of the more glaring bugs fixed.

Well, this forum is _exactly the same_ as the one on EG was. If enough of you RPS people come over, you can probably replicate the threads that matter to you, including reposting the choicest bits. If gremmi allows, ofc.
One thing we missed doing, since a user's number of posts can seemingly be changed at will, is copying those for everyone. This new user business is just silly.

Of course, I set my theme to black years ago and never had to deal with the snow-blindness. But those who couldn't login didn't have that option :-o Reading through the RPS forum now I’m not sure I’m a fan of the one long page format, much prefer regular pages like this place has, though it looks very modern! I'm having trouble adjusting to pages again. I keep replying to threads, and then realising I'm only at the bottom of the first page, and I've skipped 8 pages of discussion! ;-) In reality, the fact that it tracked your reading position in every thread meant you never really had to deal with endless scrolling, as you've only be scrolling from where you left off... and we didn't have a high enough volume of posts for that to be very far. (Unless someone mentioned D*rk S*uls. )
Oh, and I didn't realise how much I'd miss 'highlight text to quote' and automatically changing text emojis to emoticons.
It's the little things you don't realise you've got til they're gone.

Welcome to the RPS crowd Curious, how active was your forum before it was reedpopped? Did most of you make it over? It's still there, October 1st is when it's getting 'popped. The site statistics should give you a good idea about how active it is: forum.rockpapershotgun.com/aboutOh, thanks. I thought the pop date was the same for all their forums. I had a look, it seems like there's a fair amount. Maybe I'm being thick but one stat I don't understand is the Users and Active Users. 15 users, 125 Active Users? Are active users just lurkers? I saw a thread about the state of the RPS main site, and some of the criticisms were pretty much exactly what I've read about EG too

Jumping in here from off of the RPS refugee wagon myself. Hello again! I also post on Eurogamer as Marmaduke.

I'll say HELLO as well, moving over from RPS, this seems like a cozy place! All I want to talk/read about these days is Dark Souls, since I recently discovered that I actually could play these games without gitting gud. I was mostly lurking as thischarmingman at RPS, but as that's a good song but a slightly too self aggrandizing handle, I'll change it.

We have quite a decent dark souls community here so I'm sure you will find what you desire. We even have a resident expert at falling of ledges in souls games should you need any tips.

I think part of the problem with this forum's layout there is that the controls for quoting and changing pages are always at the top of that post or thread, but the quick reply box is at the bottom, and obviously you read from top-to-bottom. So you go to the bottom of the thread, see that all the posts are over and that there's no button to switch to the next page - and therefore assume that there isn't another page and you can just post. If there was a "next page" link at the bottom of threads that would already help a great deal I think.

Confusingly, that's the layout on mobile. But on desktop, they're at the top (albeit with a ln overlay).

Mainly a bunch of technical issues with trying to port over all the posts and accounts from the old forum system. Which meant a lot of ongoing threads had messed up things like quotes and images at first, and a lot of people couldn't even log in for a while. IIRC it wouldn't let a lot of people log in for a couple of weeks and you couldn't create a new login either. We lost a bunch of people because of that.

I've quick posted several times and then realised it's not going to appear under the post I thought I was replying to. One thing I'd really like back though is the ability to select part of a post and just quote the selected part when you hit quote.
Although to add context I'm grateful this place exists at all.

Not sure where else to put this but that 'Tribalchief' moderator guy over on RPS is making the most inane fucking comments and it's doing my head in

The ‘Closing the RPS Forum’ had lots of additional posts from some crank looking to recruit people for a different forum - any idea what happened there? All gone now

The ‘Closing the RPS Forum’ had lots of additional posts from some crank looking to recruit people for a different forum - any idea what happened there? All gone now I eventually called Graham in when it got too ridiculous. The last few posts from those guys (I say guys since the brigading had been starting as well) were just getting more and more deranged. Lots of just "Your forum will fail whilst I have money" posts followed by gifs . It was rather weird. Definitely a safe haven for trolls trying to lure in like-minded people, but it's quite telling that even when advertising trolling was really the only mode of interaction on display, as well as a type of pattern that was common in a forum troll that used to frequent the RPS forum before getting banned years ago. Noteworthy that forum had some people that got banned from the RPS forum as well as apperently NeoGAF (and I suspect other forums as well) so I'm not entirely sure what they were hoping to achieve there. At least it's better then the previous attempt of people-getting-banned-and-creating-their-own-forum I have seen, as that resulted in a "Free speech" forum that was invite only (though this forum also had a vetting process). It's like those people are absolutely unaware of how other people perceive them as assholes and why.
One thing I will say is that whilst this person shouted off the rooftops about how "diverse" their political opinions were, the posts sure had all the usual buzzwords and prejudices in them
It was a rather dramatic difference to how the FontGeek folks approached the forum. Y'all addressed the issues that people seemed to have in a friendly and constructive manner. It definitely prompted me to just start advertizing Fontgeek on the RPS discord (I'm an admin over there).
On the forums or on the comments and where?
In the comments on articles. I see what you mean. I don't want to sound too judgemental becuase this is definitely just a first glance for me, but it does seem to be a bit of "trying too hard to fit in". As someone who has moderated RPS for free for a very long time, I definitely approve of paid-for moderators (The RPS discord is not run by RPS funnily enough, so I don't get paid over there and I'm cool with that ). It's a hard and difficult job where you often have to deal with the abuse that gets thrown at others (which is bad) or deal with abuse that gets thrown at you personally (which is worse, and RPS used to have the policy that authors moderated their own articles, which did shift a lot of mental health burden on them). So err, give eachother time?
EDIT: Sorry for the string of edits, bad habit.

grizzly sure, I agree paid moderators are totally the way to go, and happy to give him a chance to settle in... but it's been a few weeks now, and how does one say to a mod "do you think you could cool it with the Very Online language please, it's very incongruous" when he can simply ban me if he feels I'm having a go? See here (https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/endling-is-a-game-about-a-mama-fox-protecting-her-cubs-in-a-human-ravaged-world#comments) and here (https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/kena-bridge-of-spirits-introduces-more-big-bosses-and-adorable-photo-mode#comments) for examples. It's 14-year-old-GameFaqs-news-comment drivel

I’m guessing it’s contractual interaction. My guess is, based on some personal, albeit limited, encounters with offshore internet community farms is he has about half a dozen other places he looks after and just blindly posts the first internet aphorism that springs to mind in all of them to hit the quota.
