I haven’t been a regular visitor to RPS for a while now, but browsing the site a bit yesterday, I was a bit surprised by the lack of comments. Most articles don‘t even make it to 10. I remember it being a much livelier place, no? Forumites tended to hang out and discuss stuff on the forum, a large part of the community is mainly chatting on Discord since a few years back, and the comments system on the main site is pretty bad. Add to that most articles these days are pretty straight news pieces, hardware or guides that are mainly pulling in traffic via SEO rather than being for the community of regulars and that virtually all websites just get fewer comments on average these days. |

the comments system on the main site is pretty bad And how. It's been months since they put the new system in place and adding bold or italic text still isn't even on the horizon. Are they coding it from scratch in a locked room without internet access or something? |

Ah, sorry, it seems waybackmachine had problems with capturing the dynamic reloading pages of discourse. Only the first few posts are captured.

I think BillNotBen said he'd got the bulk out but had to write a script to strip out email addresses before github would take it? I did the export tool thing but confess I haven't unpacked the results yet (and nature of tool meant it'd only be personal posts anyway)
