I'll only overeat in the evening if I buy snacks, that doesn't really change much whether I have breakfast or not. Looking at the calorie diary I have, I'm consistently eating less per day when I skip breakfast. Usually still over target, but I'm always more over target if I eat breakfast.

I totally subscribe to the fact that skipping breakfast is bad. Not only can it leave me performing poorly at work in the morning, possibly suffering from headaches too. I definitely end up having a larger lunch or more snacks through the day to account for it if I skip breakfast. I only do it by accident nowadays.
When I have successfully lost weight in the past I’ve always followed a purely mathematical approach of a calorie target over the day. That’s more easily achieved by making sure that I have three square meals where each meal is roughly the same calories each day. Then if there is room for a snack in the total in it goes.
It can be a real chore, but using My Fitness Pal or similar to do this works IME.
It’s my suspicion that intermittent fasting, keto and the like are a bit pseudo science. I suspect that those following it are losing weight due to the maths at the end of the day as a side effect, and that all the other stuff *seems* a bit woo-woo, *to me*.
I honestly mean no offence with any of these views and they may be bollocks. But I know if you are a person that struggles to skip breakfast you don’t need to subscribe to IF to lose weight, just count the calories.
I also can’t stand systems like Slimming World/Weight Watchers, which similarly overcomplicates things, although I do think some of the branded WW food can be useful in keeping calories down. But when partners/family members subscribe to these things, it always seems a bit like a cult!

Agree with most of that. I think there's something in low carb but not as extreme as keto and the concern is that it's just not sustainable. At the moment I'm concentrating on not eating crap, so biscuits and crisps have gone during the week, maybe one or two at the weekend. Smaller portions etc too.

That's ok though. My theory is that if you try and cut it out completely, you'll just lapse. So the occasional treat is fine.

Back from the gym. Treats you said? Oh aye.
1x 45% less salt walkerd cheese and onion crisps. 1x Titan bar (aldi small mars bar clone- which is closer to the og mars bar than the current mars version imo).
Soon to crack a beer. It's the freakin' weekend after all. AND just after going back to work too, so it's ALL about the treats! 😀
Back on the indoor bike on sat & sun to make up for this mind.

If you try to cut everything out you’re guaranteed to fail. Moderation is the key. It has to be sustainable, otherwise you’ll just yo-yo continually. “Diets” are limited time plans. You need a way of living after the diet is over in order to maintain results. Better to find a balance to all things.
And if you go ott on the crisps and sausage rolls for a day, don’t beat yourself up about it, just get back on the horse the following day.

Also do weights and build muscle. I noticed a huge difference moving from exclusively running to a 70/30 weights to cardio split

Twice in the last week I've done the gym at lunch. Much more tolerable. Might do 2-3 lunch sessions of 45 mins and then runs/ skipping in the evening

I've stuck to walking up the hill 2-3 times a week since NYD. I've not been tracking it properly, but I've definitely lost some weight, or at least become less bloated. Definitely feel fitter too, just imagine when I start doing real exercise.
Mini Eggs available in the shops now though, so all bets are off.

I need to stop going away for work. Every time I go overnight I get kfc/burger king at the services both ways and a takeaway in the evening. It’s probably an extra 3-4000 calories that I otherwise wouldn’t have that week.
Last year I only had to do it 4 times, I’ve already done it that much this year and I feel terrible afterwards each time.

Or don't have a burger each way and an unhealthy takeaway when you're there?

I managed a week and a bit of my good brisk walks and then the pavements turned to ice and then there were consecutive named storms. Coming to terms with the fact I may need to exercise in the house. But it’s my safe/fun space!

Just get it done. It's been -15 or lower the last couple of weeks, with regular snow, so all my steps have been inside, as well as cardio and lifting.
It's only -6 today, and gradually getting warmer, so hopefully in a week or so I can get out for a bit.

The salad box with the fillet of chicken is really nice (there's a zinger version which is particularly tasty IIRC). Order a second fillet if you're particularly peckish and get a calorie free drink

Back at pre Christmas weight now.(78kg)...all I did was cut out bombay mix and the stupid amount of cake that was consumed around Christmas.
I'm betting getting below this weight is going to be a lot harder!
Aim is 75kg so not exactly a massive drop to aim for.

Back on the breakfast thing, I don't think there's any need for anything that calorific or carby for breakfast. As a T1 diabetic, I can see that getting up in the morning makes my body chuck out glucose. With CGM (continual glucose monitoring), it's taught us why we need more insulin for breakfast. I have to take insulin even if I have no food, just to counteract it.
So your body has the getting up and going, and energy for the day in hand!

Work have installed a new posh coffee machine 10 steps away from my desk that does a mean mocha. This is bad. Jealous. I slum it with coffee granules at work, or will buy in some nespresso capsules to use on a machine some kind soul brought in which is about the best option here. A couple of times a week I will head out on campus for an ok flat white from the hospital coffee place. All my nice coffee mostly gets made at home. And is better than what I can get at any of the various places round here.

Just to buck the trend slightly, I’m not eating breakfast at all Monday to Friday and sticking to my objective of eating between 6pm and 8pm only.
Water and black coffee only in between.
I’ve been doing it since September, lost a stone in weight (down to 11 stone) and can honestly say I feel far sharper and alert all day.
Currently mixing in a 5k run three times a week with a view to having fewer fast days from March.

So for 22 hours a day, your body relies on 2 hours of food?
Not sure that's the wisest approach

Nice cup of olive oil should offer enough calories.

I’ve cut out about 90% of the meat I used to eat. I’ve lost some weight. I don’t really miss meat now I’ve got my head round a few staple meals either
