4 litres of water a day? No chance I hit that. Probably 3 litres tops if I include tea. Actually, probably 3. There are other ways to take in water. Doesn't have to be done orally.

But the whole 'eat porridge, almonds, yogurt, protein and it'll make you feel fuller so you'll eat less' is total bollocks. Wait, what part of this is bollocks?

If you're still hungry after eating healthy food, eat more healthy food.
Junk food isn't any more filling (quite the opposite for its caloric value), you're just more willing to it loads of it

4 litres of coffee a day? No problem. But the whole 'eat porridge, almonds, yogurt, protein and it'll make you feel fuller so you'll eat less' is total bollocks. Wait, what part of this is bollocks? The part where I do all that, then still feel hungry so I eat the usual food *as well*, so since increasing my protein and fiber intake I gained weight rather than lost it. If I eat porridge for breakfast I'm fucking starving all morning. It's worse than pretty much anything else I can eat for breakfast. That said, I haven't eaten any snacks so far today, so I'm feeling rather impressed with myself.

Are you hungry though? If you're weak and starving, sure. But it's more your body adjusting to the new levels of food that you're intaking imo.

Are you just eating porridge? Anything else with it, specifically some protein and fat, both of which will help you feel satiated for longer.
ed: "If I eat porridge for breakfast I'm fucking starving all morning. It's worse than pretty much anything else I can eat for breakfast." If this is the case for you, just eat something different.

Shed loads of coffee.
I've tried protein with porridge and that didn't have any effect.
It's cool. It's just annoying that any time I search for ideas/solutions they all recommend porridge and protein and the same things, which just don't seem to work (for me).

Which protein source? Are you adding whey powder to the porridge with a bit of peanut butter, or eating 3 high protein chicken sausages, or a pack of turkey bacon on the side, etc.? Each may deliver roughly the same amount of macronutrients but vary wildly for food volume.

What's the "usual food" that you're eating that does make you feel full?

The other thing to watch for when trying to cut back are those empty calories. Finishing the kids' dinner, the crusts cut off from their sandwich etc.
It takes a couple of weeks for your body to adjust to less/different food, but it does.
Half a stone down since NY here. Mostly fluid as I've cut out the booze, but all helps!

Get rid of the coffee. That won't be helping. Mix it up with water or cordial.
I woke up about 8am and I won't eat until 12 today. You just adjust.

You do need to get used to feeling hungry.
IME when a diet is going well it's mainly because I've trained my body to associate that feeling directly to the goal of losing weight, and it becomes a positive reinforcement thing.
If you absolutely have to feel full at all times then there aren't really any tricks that will help. You do need some amount of willpower

I've always got to eat something in the morning. Slice of toast for breakfast and a banana mid-morning is what I'm on at the moment. Haven't worked out the calories but got to be less than porridge.

My attempts at dieting last maybe three days then I just lost the plot. Pretty much feels like I'm having to start again everyday.

Try not to diet then. Record what you eat and the calories. You'll see pretty fast where you need to cut down. Then you can decide not have some arbitrary plan.

That's what I'm doing!
Think I might need to skip breakfast. That's 400 calories saved.

I've come very late into this conversation, but I have bacon and egg for breakfast most days and it keeps me going till lunch no problem. I too find that porridge leaves me feeling hungry again by 10.30.

And again, may have been mentioned already, but take a look at the Fast 800 diet. I found it pretty easy to stick with and lost a stone.

That's what I'm doing! Think I might need to skip breakfast. That's 400 calories saved. Not having breakfast is one of the all time great ways of easily cutting a big chunk of daily calories, coupled with the fact that you're basically doing intermittent fasting (assuming you can make it through to late morn/lunch) which, depending on who you believe, comes with its own benefits. If I'm concentrating on work in the mornings then I find it very easy, I normally get peckish around 11 (I'm fucking starving right now), but lunch is just around the corner.

I never have breakfast. I feel physically sick if I even think about food in the morning.
Related; some people say that cardio in the morning, i.e. while fasted, is the opportune time for it as you are starved of energy and therefore you give your body little option but to burn fat.

Re. Skipping breakfast: studies also show that people who skip breakfast overrate in the evenings. And the health benefits of skipping it are minimal, if any. You’re already “fasted” for 8 hours sleeping, there’s not a huge amount of difference getting to 12. The bigger benefits from fasting take a bit of time, but they’ll be offset by muscle loss alongside it.
Fasted cardio is also no different to non-fasted when you account for the rest of the day.
