Hi mate I hope you and your daughter are both well Why do you care ? I only ask as I read lots on here and other sites bemoaning the effects or lack of effect and results such and such do to ones overall health by following this or that. What is the end goal ? admittedly I have not worked in the fitness (bodybuilding) industry for nearly 2 decades and for the most part I do not look great! but when I was and did (look not too bad) one thing I would always ask clients is what do you want to achieve and what would be any goals ? Just curious and maybe trying to get an answer for myself I think you have confused/conflated me with somebody else as I'm childfree. But understandable as I'm pretty beige and forgettable. But as to the reasons why I want to lose weight - I'm technically overweight. Yes, weight can be subjective but considering I do very little heavy lifting, the 80kg of my 5'7 frame (and yes, I'm mixing imperial and metric measurements because frankly it's always felt very much pick-and-choos-growing up) is mostly fat, and mostly centered around my gut. I frankly hate the way my potato of a body looks. At the same time, personally, I've no interest in being ripped, that "condom full of conkers" look isn't something I aspire to. I'd just like to not feel I look like a pregnant woman tbh. Unfortunately I like beer and shit food too much for my own good. I obviously have, sorry about that, I'm thinking of our good dr. So based off your height/weight you would absolutely want to diet, but you know this. it does not boil down to motivation (fuck that) it is DISCIPLINE, no excuses do or don't do. You say you like beer and shit food too much, well there you are then. accept it and move on, at the very least do some cv if not for anything else other than your heart health. Oh Yeah!

I know it's stupid, but the following works for me. Whenever I'm tempted by food, thinking about going back to walking on the treadmill, anything I dislike really, I think of a Mike Tyson quote: discipline is doing something that you hate, but doing it like you love it.
I think of that and it reminds me to have fruit instead of whatever shite I was thinking of.

At the moment I'm thinking visiting my GP about my own weightloss. I go to the gym at lunch usually, and in August work was so (unusually) hectic that I didn't go as much as usual, and was a bit carefree with my diet.
Then in early September in had an injury in the gym, followed by Covid then went to Lanzarote a week, for none of which k was concerned with my diet. So basically almost two months with less gym than I'd like, and stress from work and the kids meant more takeaway than usual.
But I've lost weight. I can see it in the mirror and on the scales, and there's no good reason for it. In another world I might have been happy about that but my wife's uncle started losing weight for no recently and it turned out to be the big C.

The amount of effort it takes going from fat to looking ripped is... a lot. It's not a look you'll ever achieve without maximum dedication. What it would do is help you maintain muscle while you diet, change your shape so you don't just look skinny fat at the end of it, help to increase your metabolism so that you can eat more without just gaining more fat, and help strengthen everything so that you can move better and live longer. And frankly, I'd be amazed if it didn't change your perspective on it as you start reaping the benefits. Motivation comes from action, not before it. But, as you mention, if you don't reign your bad habits and general diet in then nothing else will make much of a (big) difference. esgfitness.co.uk/committo6/ may be of interest. I dropped from 13st2 to 8st12 in just over a month and a bit without trying and still eating to keep it on, turned out it was two polyps positioned perfectly to prevent food breaking down fast enough and staying in the body long enough to do so anyway. So a perfect mix of two silly things that would cause weight loss solo if unchecked. So definitely worth to get it checked out even if it ends up being nothing.

Cheers, ended up finding barretts Oesophagus/esophagus on later checks (annoying). I was surprised how fast you can get used to spitroasting cameras though.
On topic it lead me to experiencing what I now think is the worse kind of weight gain, and that's the regain. So much harder to lose weight when it's something you've put back on in large quantities, it seems like a tougher kind of fat that just refuses to budge. Probably something people who have dieted experience.

I moved my doctor's appointment to today as I was quite anxious about it, and wanted it this side of the weekend. Had no resolution really other than bloods are being taken on Monday.
He asked questions about tiredness, bowel movements, whether I've had cameras in me before, and felt my stomach.
We'll see what happens whenever the results come back, and hopefully it's nothing to be concerned about, but his line of questioning was fairly specific, as (as far as I know) there's no history of cancer in my family. I don't think it's that, just to be clear, could be a number of things, but he didn't put my mind at ease. Will update again whenever I have some new information.

I had the treadmill up to 20kph this morning at the peak of the interval sesh, just for 30 seconds to see if I could do it (I can, just). It blows my FUCKING mind that dudes like Kipchoge are doing faster than that for 2 hours straight. Unbelievable really.

Aye, camera up the wrongun wasn't too bad. I certainly wouldn't say it needs sedation. It's pretty cool watching the journey on the screen too.
I found a camera down the neck to be far more traumatic, but still probably something I'd do without sedation next time now that I know what to expect.

Blech. Gym was busy today. Recognised quite a few though, so maybe it's not the new year influx yet, just reduced opening hours and folk being off work.
Just a few more days to find out how large yhe 2024 resolution intake will be! 😀
