I do 20-30 minutes of low/high cycled resistance on the cross trainer and 10-15 minutes of weights one day and flipped back the next.
The key was removing barriers and getting into routines. Ironically, Im too lazy to put my shoes and coat on to actually go outside for a walk, but am happy to roll off my office chair and onto the cross trainer for a more intense session in a pavlovian response when my 5.30pm alarm goes off.
If you have the space and are a lazy bastard like me, I cant recommend a cross trainer enough, its been an absolute game changer. I havent felt this good in years.

Walking would be about 40, 45 minutes, cycling is about half the time, less depending on traffic and crossings.
Would let me listen to music / podcasts too. Hm.
I've been considering getting a rowing machine, but yeah, no real space in my single room lodging.

Go on a longer cycle loop, double the distance. Or run to work, best use of 20 minutes that

Oh, and a standing desk has also helped in terms of digestion and being sedentary all day. I know Im offering the classic middle class solutions of 'buy more things, have more space', but here we are.

I'm not going to run to work, I'd need to pack a change of clothes and have to shower when I get there. Really CBA with that.
I could actually afford a standing desk, or whatever fitness solution is available. Space for a desk would be tight but doable. But I'm trying to avoid buying much crap as when I eventually, inevitably have to move it's just more tat to lug around.

A mile of brisk walking is about 100 calories, give or take. It's good for getting active and getting your heart rate and blood flow up, but it's a pretty low impact exercise just for calorie burning. That isn't to say you shouldn't do it, but it's more of a complimentary exercise than a pure weight loss one. I did a six mile walk yesterday morning with the hound and my Garmin measured it as 559 kcal. If you've got time, walking is one of the best ways to lose weight. But you do need to be walking a couple of hours to be worth it. As ever though, 90% is diet. Yeah, so two key things there. The walk I mentioned was just over two hours (at an average of roughly 3mph, pace of 20 minutes a mile) and with the second one of the day included, walking got rid of 870 odd calories of my c 2500 intake and I eat quite well. If you want to walk for sheer calorie burn and weightloss, it'll need to be regular. It definitely will help, but it doesn't mean you can eat a packet of donuts then just wander about for 15 minutes to burn it off. If you're calorie counting and avoiding fatty foods, crisps, sugary drinks etc, it'll definitely help. I do about 5 mile minimum per day, much more on the weekends (usually 6-7 miles on a weekend morning hike, sometimes as much as 10), but I'd definitely be expanding if it was all I did. On top of that, I do 60 - 80 minute resistance gym sessions three times a week and an hour (2x half hour on the non-weights days) on a static bike at high cadence. I'm still nowhere near my peak fitness. I have accepted that those days are gone, I'll settle for being as best as I can be now

Also find hills, I've started to actively seek hills for walking and running instead of actively avoiding them, you get more bang for your buck. It's also almost impossible to run any decent distance without going up and down a hill in Barnet. Shit hole

I'm at the top of a hill. To be honest it's not the worst but you can run either half the journey downhill and half up with the up part being just gradual enough to make you feel useless for feeling it.
If I want to run a faster time, I can do more flats but generally it's quite a hilly town here and if you want to do anything more than just run around a field you have to do ups and downs and like you say, actually worth doing.
It's mainly the extra 7kilos and lack of weight training that's affecting my times if I'm honest. I am routinely now 25 mins/5k which I am really disgusted about. I need to get back to the squat rack and on a healthier diet.

Got our fair share of stinkers here in Muswell Hill but can eke out a relatively flat 5k if I’m feeling delicate

I was all over hill climbs until I had bad tears in both of my calves within 6 months of each other. Now they seem to tear at the meerest sight of a decline.

I alternate between weights and cardio every visit. I had been doing some skipping, tyre flipping and pushing a weighted sled for my cardio but I found I was cheating way too much and taking breaks. So the last few times I've been doing the treadmill for half an hour. I don't particularly enjoy it, but I see my calories burned and have a target to beat for next time.

My problem is I really like having a big meal at the end of the day. That’s always been ok because I never had breakfast or lunch. Now I work from home I have all three and still have a big dinner.
I’ve started to improve a bit again more and have cut out breakfast, I’ve reduced the number of times I have lunch too. Other than a fry up there are no good breakfast foods and lunch is a bit shit with things like sandwiches, salads and soup.

Up hill is fine, downhill seems to fuck up your legs but you can't really go up without coming down if your doing a loop 🙈

But the idea of those would be to fill you up so you don't snack so much in the morning, and if you're not doing that anyway then maybe not needed. Not that it works anyway.

The only way I like porridge is with a lots of syrup, and eggs odd just want bacon and sausage with them. Once I go a few days without breakfast I don’t really miss it, I think the body gets used to when you eat so once it learns breakfast isn’ta thing then I don’t crave anything at that time.

Overnight oats with nuts, seeds and dried fruit are great, especially in the summer when you don't really want warm porridge. Can be made a bit more interesting with cacao powder or cinnamon.

Careful with dried fruit, packed with sugar

Aye, I don't really have any refined sugar usually (aside from in bread), so a small amount won't kill me. Fair point though for anybody else.

Just too easy to stick a big handful in because “it’s only fruit” and end up with more sugar than a bowl of frosties

Based on the idea above, I've made a new rule that anytime I get up I have to do some pushups. I doubt it'll burn that many calories but it makes me feel less guilty

Chicken sausages aren't as good a swap but there are options if you look about. Jobs a good'un.

0 cal syrup and bacon medallions?
I'd rather sub some same/similar taste stuff that allows me freedom to eat the sort of, generally, high calorie stuff I want than removing all but one meal a day, but if it works for you have at it.

But those options sound disgusting. I can't speak tot he 0 cal syrup tbh as that's certainly not where my problem lies but Bacon medallions are a brilliant sub. It's just a back rasher without the little (admittedly delicious) fatty part. They're great with boiled, scrambled or poached eggs. Often go for a bacon medallions, boiled eggs and avocado lunch. no bread, really filling and definitely hits the spot from a taste perspective.

Getting some real middle class vibes here lads. We're probably quite privileged in that we can afford to make these choices.

It's been a while since I've done anything than a static cycle, so it was a bit of a culture shock doing 6 miles in (Norfolk countryside) rush hour traffic. Fuck knows how you London guys do it.
