It’s like looking at the exchange rate, you can’t spot the general trend by monitoring it every hour as it’s constantly fluctuating. More datapoints don’t make it more accurate, it’s just more data

Are you at least allowed to weight yourself before and after poos? Anyone who has scales and claims to never have done this is weird. For me it's 1lb.

Daily weigh-in, and work out the average for the week. That’ll give you a more accurate trend than once weekly. If the daily fluctuations add stress then less if fine. It;s whatever works for the individual.

Well, I’m “off” bread and wheat in all its forms again, girls and boys.
Some may recall from the Old Place that I go through phases of this.
Earlier this week, I felt bloody awful after having just a couple of biscuits on one day, and two rounds of supermarket wholemeal bread, toasted, on another.
Bloated to fuck, miserable and in pain.
So, my usual method applies: stay off wheat for a few weeks, lose some weight and feel amazing, and then (hopefully not, this time…) think, “I’m alright now,” and blimmin’ eat it again.
I’m largely aware of the arguments for and against the “Wheat Is Bad” proposal (Dr. Davis et al), but I genuinely seem to have a problem with the stuff.
Hmmm.

Might celiac disease or gluten intolerance be the culprit?

Might celiac disease or gluten intolerance be the culprit? Either certainly could be, but I’ve always ruled out actual celiac, as it seems to affect a tiny minority of people and I would expect the symptoms to be even more severe.

Finished a strength block test week on Saturday. Going back to more bodybuilding-style workouts from today. Gonna be brutal with volume and the heat (27-30 degrees all week).

Work out in the early morning? Not that I ever could be arsed to do so, it's always right before dinner for me.

I have done in the past but I don't enjoy it. Feel weak, and it doesn't really gel with my day. I'll manage, it's just gonna be sweaty sessions.

The bodybuilding, I'm not planning to try it or anything just curious! At the moment I'm attempting to "maingain", if that's even a thing. Currently doing: nSuns (3-4x/week) I did this a few years ago and saw good gains so giving it another go & enjoying it. Crossfit (2x/week) I know, I know but it's a good workout. Mystery activity (1x/week) Speculation welcome. Cycling maybe 45km/week. I'm in that in-shape, out-of-shape stage, aiming for around 2750 calories/day, weight is about 87.5kg.

For BB I'm running Mark Carroll's male program. There are a couple of people I follow that are legit smart, so I'm cycling their stuff to see what I enjoy. I did one of his challenges a while back, so bought his programs to run now.

Re: Work out in the early morning: It took some time to get used to, but nowadays I get up at 6:00 during workdays and either go for a run, do some gym-ring exercises (3x a week) or cycle to work (~20km one-way). This has several advantages: 1. I already did my exercise before starting work \o/ 2. In the morning it's still cool 3. It's nice and quiet
Only downside is that I really need to be in bed before 10:30 to get enough sleep.

Damn, did you pay $99 for it? Please keep us updated on how you get on! I wrote a detailed response to this and lost it when posting. The tl;dr version: - I know it's good from previous experience with his programs. - It comes with lots of info on goal setting, nutrition, energy systems, etc, which is useful for most people. - Even without the above, the programming factors in intensity and volume, deloads, muscle lengths, exercise selection and pairing, workout phases, etc, that come from his experience studying and 1-2-1 training 100s of people, though they are never explicitly explained (he has PT courses for that). - Personally, I don't think $100 is a lot for a quality, repeatable 3 month program. There are probably decent free programs around but most don't tend to be that useful for anything above a beginner trainee. MC, along with a few other people I follow, have completely upgraded my knowledge on and ability to train, so I see the value in it. And saying that, the strength program I use is free and I like it a lot, and I get decent results from it. I am looking at a paid program for that too, though I won't bite on that until next year.

Weigh in tonight, 96kg, down from 97.2 last week, not so bad considering I've not done any excercise.

So I've made a bit of an effort to not to eat enough dinner for 3 people and stopped filling my face with crisps every night, and in the last three months I've lost just over 2 stone. According to the NHS if I lose another half a stone I officially won't be fat anymore. I'll be right at the top end of not fat, but I'll take it.

Good lad.
From my own point of view, cutting out gluten has resulted in me cutting out all the biscuits/bread/cake/etc. that were always my main problem.
I hate the “jumping on the bandwagon” element of this but, honestly, it really seems that wheat is of no critical nutritional value, and is at the very heart of being a fat bastard.

It all come back to £££. Both as it's relatively cheap to farm and buy, but is/was very lucrative.
Well done Rob. Bet you're feeling the benefit eh?!

I've stopped eating bacon sandwich for breakfast most days and I've largely stopped eating snacks - not eating crisps everyday, and only if it's part of a meal.
Can still eat better but at least I'm down to three meals as opposed to three meals plus snacks. Could do with cutting out breakfast as that tends to be nutritionally dubious for me (I mean, croissant is better than Gregg's sausage and bacon sandwich at least).
I'm still allowing myself bacon on the weekend, though I'll just buy a bacon and egg sandwich from a cafe that's 30 minute cycle away, so it gets me out the house.
Also stopped drinking every day.
Biggest hurdle is games night, the sad thing is, whilst I enjoy boardgames I really do enjoy them more with a couple of beers, after which my willpower to not shovel salty snacks into my gullet crumbles.

Day 18 of "closing my rings" since getting an Apple Watch. It's definitely helped me be more active, which has always been a challenge when sat at a desk from 8-5 (after which it's parenting, cooking etc).
Really enjoyed some of the stuff on Apple Fitness+ and have utilised the cycling and core stuff on there, hell I've even taken a yoga class now, which was way better than I expected. Turns out that I'm unsurprisingly not very bendy.
Question for those that lift weights: I've now left a set of dumbbells in the kitchen. I'm making it a habit of lifting them whilst brewing tea/coffee etc. Is there any benefit to this, or am I more likely to do myself a mischief? I'm of the mindset that ANYTHING is better than nothing, but I'd be interested in the thoughts of those that take this sort of thing more seriously than I do.

It's usually only recommended that you do one group (of however many reps and sets) of any single exercise in a day. So if you pick them up and do 3 lots of 10 bicep curls whilst making your morning coffee, you probably shouldn't pick them up and do the same exercise again later on that day.
No real reason as far as I am aware why you can't do a different exercise later on, though - for example, if you've done the above in the morning, at lunchtime you could do 3x10 tricep extensions, then at afternoon tea, 3x10 shoulder presses.
You may also want to think about having off days the day after if you're exercising that regularly, too. So perhaps do some cardio in the gaps the day after (press up, situps, star jumps etc).

Don't do heavy cardio after weights or anything that tears/ stresses muscle. Big no no. Feel free to go for a 2 mile warm up run or something and then weights after but never the other way round.

I'm 3 days into a 6 week cut and I had what felt like a 3 hour long vivid dream about eating pork chops last night. So it's going well.
