There's no room for you to lay down on the floor in your apartment anywhere? Nope, not without moving shit anyhow. London property market. There are stairs though rockavitch may have a point. OK those trainers definitely don't fit, I'm in fucking agony after 20 minutes walking. Also trainers are ugly as fuck. Blegh.

Just do what you can in the space that you have. Squats, getting a pull up bar that isn't screwed in, can do wonders if you just do a few here and there and they don't require any floor space.
Pull ups are tough but once you build up to being able to manage them you'll be stronger, and I think it's important to be able to move your own body through a space or support your own weight.
You can also use the pull up bar to work your core ie knee lifts and the like. I had a pull up bar for years that didn't need to be screwed in and had no problems.

In case you ever had a fire or emergency that required you to hang from a window ledge, or pull yourself up over a wall etc.
I hope neither of those scenarios never happen to you or myself or anyone else but it's nice to know if required you stood a chance at doing so.

It's not just you either, being able to move your own weight means you'll also be able to move someone of a similar or lighter weight and handle heavier people with less trouble. So handy in emergencies as said.

I think it's important to be able to move your own body through a space or support your own weight. Why? It's what you need to do every day and you've reached the age of use it or lose it. If you don't start actively maintaining that ability it'll slip away gradually. Believe me, I'm older than you and I let it happen.

You've convinced me to get a chin up bar now too.
Had a cheap one years ago that I probably shouldn't have tried using on a flimsy interior frame. Worked quite well until it collapsed on me at the apex of a pull up...
Would love to have space for a bit of freestanding kit, but even a tiny exercise bike is crowding the spare room.

We got one bolted onto a wall in the garage for our boy to stop him ruining our doorframes with my old portable chin up bar.
Turned out he is too lazy to go downstairs to use it.
It does mean he actually uses a chin up bar between xbox games, which is good... I guess?

He does use it properly. I use the one in the garage.
As a point of principle! š

Are any particular brand of trainers good for wide feet? As I got a pair half a size to big of Adidas and they're agony to wear, I suspect because of got quite wide feet. Or should I just go somewhere where someone will actually measure my feet instead of the local JD Sport?

I remember going to Runners Need in Camden many years ago and the guy asked me to run on a treadmill there and he checked my gait. Then made some recommendations. Well worth it.

Takes about 3 minutes for a kettle to boil so I do squats (I drink 3-4 cups a day so it adds up). Solid tip right here. Even boiling a small amount of water for a cuppa gives me enough time to bust out 30 squats and still have time to wash my cup and prep it.

I'll use the machines I'm sure but hopefully minimally. There's nothing wrong with machines (some are better than others of course, depending on design and brand). For hypertrophy, they're generally better for most people than barbells (easier to modify to individual biomechanics, easier to load, easier to modify weight curve, less skill requirement, more stability which allows most motor unit recruitment to the target muscles). They're a tool. Barbells, dumbbells, cables and machines all have a place depending on training goal and experience.

After seeing the hippo in the mirror the other day enough is enough, I'm tired of being that chubby guy I don't like again, I weighed myself tonight, 5'10" 97.2kg, weigh-in-night will be every Wednesday from now on ....

Try to stick to it. My weigh day is Saturday morning and I don't check the scales in-between because it fluctuates so much. I've been around 162-165lbs for about a month and a half now and can't get it lower.

Never understood the whole ādonāt check it every day cos it fluctuatesā thing. Surely thatās more of a reason to get more data points so you can get a trend? As opposed to having a fluke high weight result on the one day you weigh and feeling like shit cos you didnāt lose anything in a whole week?

I think the main point about having fewer data points is that more people panic and feel bad due to the fluctuations than do so as a result of āone bad weekā.

Aren't we all some kind of mentalist here?
Or did I just open the wrong door 10 months ago?
I usually do once a week weigh ins. I try to be consistent about date and time, but I'm not really monitoring the actual weight with a weightloss goal in mind.

I think the main point about having fewer data points is that more people panic and feel bad due to the fluctuations than do so as a result of āone bad weekā. Yeah might be it. My datapoint is my wife, who, if she gets a bad āweekā (on the one data point she has for that week), ends up going āwhatās the fucking pointā, stuffs her face for two days, then realises sheās only got 5 days to āsee a lossā. Itās a self fulfilling prophecy of not losing weight at that point.

I think the whole point is just so you could have a set time, could do it every day at 10am and it would work the same just with extra steps but it would be less accurate as some mornings you might not have had your dump yet, a restless night could have you holding more fluid, a hot night could cause you to be holding less water etc too many variables.
Saying that it was only because two doctors, a nutritionist and a dietician told me to do it once a week that stopped me doing it randomly so maybe it's nonsense but I'm quite happy to listen to those who know more than me.
