I just had my first video advert chase me down the screen on the Eurogamer website. It was mostly in the top left part of the screen, but was tall enough to block entire headings I'd scrolled past. When did that become a thing?

On the renewal front, my home insurance company wants £1150 this year... last was already high at £650.
Astonishing levels of cuntery.

Our new tariff kicked in last week and I agreed to pay the difference seeing as I'm WFH with the heating on every day.
My missus suddenly decides to start having daily baths...

Jeez, I'm paying £196. But then our leccy bill is about £160/month. Gas on top. I think it's partly because we do so much tumble drying.

I'm shocked by other peoples electricity bills. Mine is roughly £50-65, WFH and and the heating in on 24/7. No gas.

That seems pretty damn low for leccy heating!
Ours was £64 for both fuels combined, which is pretty low compared to others but it's just the two of us in a smallish house.
£137 now after switching to the new tariff. Ugh!

Ours is pretty much the same as this, although 4 of us in a 4 bed house. Thermostat is set to 17 most of the time which may help.

I was getting quotes around 500 for a 3 bed detached and as mentioned last week, changed the correspondence address and it dropped by £50.
Ended up going with my bank for £383 but no idea if that was a good price or not - I didn't change any of the defaults for what is covered and I don't believe the area is bad.
I'm dreading the utility bills though- my last place was all electric but never really needed the heating on as so well insulated, so was less than £500 for the year.

The flat above mine became an Air BnB last month and every weekend since has been a nightmare. Its mostly just been drunken parties spilling home so far, which is frustrating because telling some drunk person to consider turning the noise down at 2am almost always fails. Even when dealing with considerate folk. They're drunk. But last night was some weird shit.
I woke at 1am to this loud continuous vibrating noise. Not strong enough to rattle anything, but loud enough that is was almost speaking volume. I didn't hear anybody moving into the BnB this weekend so put it down to a wildly dodgy extractor fan next door (their bathroom is adjacent to our bedroom). It lasts 20 minutes before gradually fading out. Finally, peace.
2 hours later it goes off again. Dame thing. 20 minutes of this weird, loud noise and then it gradually fades out. At 5am its pretty much unbearable. I can't figure it out, but its not an extractor fan. Its louder on one side of the flat, but can be clearly heard in every room.
Then at 7am it comes on again and I've got a headache travelling down the side of my face. Im trying to contact the landlord, just in case its a boiler fault upstairs or something, but its early, so no answer...
Not 5 minutes in to the current cycle of this loud vibrating noise and something heavy hits the floor upstairs. There's somebody up there! I immediately run up there and knock on the door and within seconds the noise stops. Just cuts out completely. But the fucker is refusing to come to the door. I can't be angry or aggressive about it, but we both know they've kept me awake all night and they don't want to face it.
So many words, but my head is all messed up this morning. I still don't have any idea what the noise was exactly and I don't even know how to complain. The twist here is that my landlord is the same guy that owns that BnB and so isn't likely going to do anything about tonight or the other weekends as it's gonna be making him more money than I am.
The best I can do is try to get out of my contract early because I can no longer sleep on the weekends. My girlfriend is literally drawing up plans to rent another flat, which would wipe out all our meagre savings as pay for 2 places at once. Gah....

Absolute nightmare. Hope you have some success in getting out of the contract early. Maybe the landlord wants to turn your flat into an Airbnb as well.

So, further to that story I said it was an Air BnB for a month. Prior to that we had wrongly guessed it had become an Air BnB a month earlier, due to many noisy evenings being had. However that turned out to be a contractor who, whilst being paid to 'do up' the flat, was bringing home ladies of the night most evenings. Not sure if he was a married man, but his own home wasn't good enough.

Perhaps it's a massive fuck machine and the on/off cycle was him edging all night and then he finally collapsed on the floor with a thud as he orgasmed?

Possibly. Its not something I ever considered looking into. We knew our flat used to be one based on the decor when we moved in, but it sounded as if the landlord was moving away from that business at the time. Then after our neighbours moved out upstairs he seemingly went back on that decision. At least the flat underneath us isn't a BnB as well.

The vibrating noise will probably be a mobile phone, I can hear my neighbours mobile alarms go off early in the morning.
I really need to move to a detached house.

My missus always wakes up in a strop because the neighbours' alarm goes off at 6 every fucking day for at least half an hour. Honestly never heard it myself so I'll have to take her word for it.
I've never understood how you can sleep through an alarm in the same room as you. My brother had one of those old fashioned ones with two bells on top and somehow slept through that 90% of the time. I'd literally have to go into his room and throw the fucking thing at his head before he'd wake up.
