Fly spray is now crap. When I was a kid, there was a can of the stuff under the sink you could have committed genocide with. Fly spray now seems to have all the toxicity of mineral water. Short of drowning them in it, or trying to beat them to death with the can, entirely useless.

I sold an item via eBay. I haven't used ebay to sell anything for a couple of years but I've sold loads of things in the past so thought it'd be straightforward.
I sold it, all fine. But when it comes to sending stuff now it basically forces you to use ebay to do the sending through. I was a bit confused, and had to arrange a collection on an external link, then go back to the parcel details again to get the label print out. Normally for things like this I'd have sent it via work and have never had a problem.
It was only when the parcel had been picked up and I went to check the tracking had updated that I realised things had gone wrong. It was down as 0g for the weight and was classed as a letter. So there's no tracking and now obviously the buyer is saying that they haven't received it and want a refund...
Ebay are saying that if I can't provide proof of delivery then I'll have to refund them. I have proof it was collected, but that doesn't help. Gah.

Still waiting on a new contract to be sent to me as I'm switching departments at work. Only been a week since I was told I'd receive it that afternoon and I start next Monday. Need to see the contract so I can check the pay is as promised/renegotiate if it's not.

Tax Returns: Why are they so difficult? I've just spent a couple of hours getting all the information they need and hit "calculate" and its asking for more money than I think it should. Cue mild panic and googling.
I "think" its because I claimed for the Covid tax break for WFH and I "think" I need to claim for it again on the self assessment form, but is there a tick box saying "yes I was sent home due to Covid, please figure it all out"... no there is not. I "think" I've got to figure out how much I was paid (I think its £6 a week less tax) and enter that "somewhere", but no clue where.
Can you tell I don't normally do tax returns? I'm only doing it as I owe them £18 due to an over payment they made. I'm going to have to ring them up. Me and taxes and pensions were never meant to go together. I just don't have the brain for either of them and end up really nervous.

Ordered two items from Argos. Got a message saying they're both in for collection... one item was there and the other wasn't. They tell me it must have been missed off the delivery truck. OK. I was told to then check back throughout the week.. right.. so you want me to keep driving to Argos to check? On hold with Argos atm... can't phone the store directly...

Tax return done. I think correctly. It seems to want £90 more from me, which I hope humans looking at it will say is wrong as I'm taxed at source, but who knows. I rang them up for help and was just told to submit it and they will look then and tell me. Ah well. At least its done until next year.

One of the main things putting me off ever going down the self employed route is the thought of tax returns. Fuck that noise! If my payroll departments rarely manage to get it right then what chance do I have.
How come you have to do one?... I thought you worked for the man?
Fuck paperwork in general... Ugh!

I used to be a contractor and thankfully had an accountant then as I couldn't understand any of it. He just told me how much to take and when and I just hoped he was right. This is because I discovered I had to pay £18 back to them. I rang them up and told them and asked if I could pay it direct and was told that wasn't possible and I'd have to do a full return. I tried explaining that doing so would likely lead me to a mental breakdown and couldn't they just add it to my tax bill for next year (which I'm sure used to be a thing for small amounts), but they said no. So here I am. Took me a couple of months to even manage to get registered.

I have a feeling I'll be back here complaining about payroll being useless fuckers this time next month. First payslip after being unemployed for a few months and they seem to just be making shit up. Net payment was £35 less than my salary, which I would dearly love to be an actual thing... NI is showing as a positive amount in the deductions section, but even that doesn't explain it.
So I'll just put it all aside like a boring bastard and expect a massive correction next time. Me in my 20s would've gone on a massive bender with all that cash!

My wife's was in a similar boat last month. She rang up HMRC and they corrected it. Turned out her previous place hadn't bothered sending HMRC a P45, so they had her working in both places amd were charging her loads of tax on the "second" job.

Yeah, I had an extra payment for overtime that came in after my P45 come to think of it, so that's probably thrown a spanner in the works.
Fuck it, I'll see how it looks next month.

Fuck doing tax return until the last week of January. I had always dodged it until I needed to cover off the child benefit thing. Usually have to give the robbing hounds a third of it back.

Easily possible if you are on a cumulative tax code. Happy to run through it in DM if you want, it is my job. Well maybe not with NI actually… still happy to check though.

Fuck Youtube algorithms. So I naively clicked on a YT recommendation of a video I wasn't certain what it was about from the title, and it was some MRA crap. Youtube ignored that I disliked it and suddenly, there's a lot of alt right crap in my YT recommendations.
Naive how I am, today I clicked on a video that looked like it was about Jordan Peterson, but instead it was a glorified "lecture" by him (I went through the entire 6 minutes and was baffled by how dumb it was). Again YT ignored that I disliked it, it only cares that I clicked on it and watched it, and now my YT home page is chock full of redpill shit. Now I can't just click on anything anymore if I don't know the source, I have to right-click, copy URL and open it in another browser.
I'm not surprised how radicalised people are today, seeing how aggressively Youtube tries to push you down any rabbit hole. They stopped recommending flat earth videos after realising they were responsible for the existence of a sizeable flat earth community, but aside from that tiny part they still go on, happily radicalising people in exchange for views.

Yeah, it's just Xbox that sticks with the AA over the counter batteries. To be fair, it does mean you don't have to charge it every night, but it's definitely more wasteful.

Fuck I hate my life. Sitting here in the airport watching my plane take off. Supposed to be off to Thailand for 3 weeks. Instead I had a panic attack getting on to the plane and aborted.
I have done over 100 flights, but for some reason I just could not force myself on to the plane.

Is there a later flight you can get on? Do you have something you can take to quell the panic attack?

I have been having panic attacks recently anyway, one reason I needed a holiday. It is at the point where I get panic attacks about getting panic attacks.
2 6 hour flights I just can't do.

As Wunty says, is there another plane you can take? In the meantime could you get some Kalms or similar as that will help. If you do get a panic attack, the main thing to remember is that it can't harm you and that it will pass. If you can, you should focus on your breathing and try to take slow and deep breaths. Remind yourself that it will pass and that it is your body reacting normally to something it thinks is a threat. Look around yourself when you can (as you can get a bit tunnel vision) and focus on the here and now (what can you see, what can you hear, what can you physically feel and what can you smell). Focusing on now (i.e. the breathing), will remind your brain that right here and now, everything is fine and you can cope with it.
I had a panic attack in the supermarket a couple of weeks ago and had to look around me and take some deep breaths to get my body back. I also had one on a plane to the states years ago. I was able to focus on my breathing and counting backwards from 1000 slowly and that got me through it.
Its not easy, but its doable and I know I harp on about it, but mindfulness meditation will help with it. You can get some good books on it. You hit the nail on the head with the "worrying about worrying" comment as that is how the brain gets as it picks up on your fears and idgs into them to see if they are a threat to it.
I hope you managed to get on a plane or if not, I hope something even better comes of it. If you do get back to a plane, focus on each stage. Stage 1 is getting to the airport, 2 the ticket check in 3 the passport check in 4 getting on the plane 5 your seat, 6 putting away your luggage 7 deciding on your films / meal etc. Don't try and deal with the whole lot on one go.
Good luck mate (I was on the phone with IAPT this morning for an hour as I want to get a grip on my anxiety).
Edit: Main thing is you can get help for these. You can self refer to IAPT or see your doctor for advice. There's also counselling and even VR is being used for things like this (people with fear of heights or spiders or elevators etc). The last couple of group IAPT courses I was on had people with fears of things which the courses helped.
I've just had my IAPT person call back and I'm going to be on a 6 week computer based course and then if I need, 1-1 after that. Really looking forwards to getting help and getting back to normal. I'm quite shocked they had the availability.
