Our (usually indoor) cat has started going for a wander in the gardens opposite our house now my wife is having a morning coffee out in ours. Whatever its finding to eat out there its gone from one solid consistent firm looking poo a day, at approx 6pm, to making the litter box look like an absolute crime scene. An immediate full litter change is required every time and its happening several times a day.

So after a week or so with this tracker on, I think I've come to the conclusion that my cat is a stupid twat. He doesn't seem to go anywhere for any length of time that might suggest he's being fed. Just mooches about for hours on end. He might be going elsewhere but the tracker isn't that accurate and he's soon moved on. Only lost it once too, retrieved from a neighbour's garden.
But because he's (naturally) scared of the dog, he doesn't want to come in the house. Because he's stupid, he hasn't worked out that we keep the dog well out of the way so he can come and go (edit: the other cat has this nailed and even taunts the dog). He just sits staring at the open front door (dog shut in another room), and then fucks off. Proper special needs cat imo.
I dunno, will keep it on until we go away and then take it off but keep the collar. An interesting experiment though.
Edit: added clarity on the other cat, normal in some ways but psychotic in other ways.

Might be eating elsewhere - change of diet (somehow) completely fucks their system. Despite their wild diet of mice and birds.

This is my favourite picture of Dudley, because he's not shouting.

The unfaithful, wandering cat has wandered again. Was hardly seen whilst we were away (neighbours think they saw him but can't be sure...). Bowl is hardly touched at night and no sight of him since we got back on Saturday. He'll turn up, I'm sure. The git.

Ooft. That's tough. We had ours locked up while away (with a catsitter in by daily, mind, we're not monsters). She was not happy, but we feel it's better that way, so the catsitter has less responsibility in case anything happens wih getting shut in anywhere or going off wandering etc. the cat always gets let out all day on the day of our return though. We get a massive row shouted at us on our return. Always nice to get a welcome!

The other one was present and always happy to see my in-laws, who fed them. It's not been a real issue in the past either. He does disappear for a couple of days every now and then but this feels different. Have spammed the various Facebook groups, fingers crossed.

I know there’s a few here and people are normally pretty good at posting dogs and cats they think may be lost. Edit: ignore that. I missed you saying you’ve spammed fb already. Hope he turns up soon. ☹️

Will go door knocking again today to get people to check sheds etc. It all feels a bit coincidental that this happens when we were away though. Still think he's at someone else's house rather than anything bad.
My brother's cat disappeared for 3 years. Turned up at their new address 3 years after going missing, minus a leg (all well carrd for and looked after). Cats are twats.

So some might recall we tried to get our fussy cat on to a different diet as she seemed to be eating less and less, all went OK for a few days, breaking in a menu of canned fish, chicken, bacon and other bits and bobs interchanged with her regular diet, after a week or so of enjoying the new food types she then began to turn her nose up at everything again. She lost some weight over this period so we gave up on the new menu and went back to crappy old Whiskas and James Wellbeloved biscuits which she kinda just nibbled on. Then a few days ago we fed her on one of the kitchen stools rather than the floor area where we've always fed her. She's since seemingly got her appetite back and seems quite happy eating whilst perched on a stool and so has pretty much gone back to her normal weight. It seems there must be something odd about where she was eating, we'll experiment with different places on the kitchen floor not that there are many choices. Stupid idiot.

Cats are weird. Only thing we try to do is keep food and water separate, after reading they don't like them together. Fine for downstairs, upstairs is adjacent but they (or rather, he, sob) will have to lump it.

Sadly not. Just have to hope he turns up. I at least hope he's being looked after, even if he's chosen to go elsewhere at the moment. It's made me quite blue all week, I don't mind admitting. I was the only one he tolerated.

The battery only lasts 2 days so we took it off him when we went away. Didn't seem fair to expect my in-laws to have to wrestle with him that. Kept the "do not feed me" collar on though.

Can you train a dog to do it's business in exactly the same place every morning/evening? Namely if we were to get a dog, I'm pretty certain (99%) it would end up being Muggins who would be sorting out its first AM and last PM ablutions (as well as the walks/feeding/vets bills etc) and rather than having to traipse round the back of the house down the death stairs to the Somme morning & evening it'd be great if I could get the little darling to learn to take a crap & piss in the same spot everyday, namely outside the front door. And also miraculously not be able to smell it's crap/piss either? Am I being delirious, is this kind of canine discipline possible? Despite what some might think I do want a dog but I also want to make it workable.

Don't underestimate the benefits of a dog walk. As well as the exercise, it gives some great headspace. I don't think I could be without a dog now.
I'd love to train mine to do his business in the same spot though. As the moment he's dumping on our lovely Scottish pebbles and weeing on the lawn. Flip it you annoying git.
