Thoughts on spaying? The vet recommended to wait until after the first season if we wanted to do it.

We were advised not before 2 years old. We’re not sure if we’re going to yet.

If memory serves, pre first season spaying leads to an increased risk of some sort of cancer later in life

I read on Reddit this week of people predicting their dogs' bowel movements by contractions of their anus (the dog's, not the owner's). Thoughts?
Be the hole puckering with rhythm? Then the dog soonish be a'shittin'!

I think the only to be really sure is to stick a finger in it.
If it's brown it's on it's way down.

I find when Penny needs to go she looks at me and in her finest queens English says “father, I must confess to badly needing a shit”. Then I stick my finger up her bum to be sure.

Looks like we will be a 3 dog household soon. The puppy is hassling our old dog to play all the time and she just isn't up for it. She is almost 14 and on heart meds so she is very much of the fuck that shit stance. We figure if he has a willing playmate then he is less likely to hassle her.
Going to see some girls tomorrow from the same lady we got him from so it's essentially going to be one of his siblings just a year apart.
Now watch them both gang up on my old girl.

The dog trainer said to get the dog used to pubs and restaurants. Every day I have to go to the bar right across the street, drink a beer or, if it looks like rain (and it suspiciously often does), two, just so the dog grows up properly socialized.
It is a hard life I lead.

It's also prudent to get them used to strippers and women of the night.

When walking our dog around the village, she will stop at any pub we pass and try to go in.
She is well trained.

A tick just fell off my Bernese - is it worth calling the vet and having him checked to be on the safe side? I'm struggling to find where on his body the tick was under all the fur so I can disinfect it (but I'll keep looking).
Beyond pissed off with my other half - told her not to walk him in tall grass but apparently "ticks only live in rural areas".

Do you have a monthly flea and tick treatment?

In all honesty man, if you're worried, I would do the vet thing. Better to play it safe?

We switched our flea treatment to one that does ticks as we have loads of long grass round our way, and after we found a couple.
If you're treatment isn't up for changing yet you can get a tick collar.

Penny is in long grass every day. No ticks yet but it's only a matter of time, if the amount me and the wife and the boy get is any indication. Dougs Good idea. Although my fear is not actually seeing one in her fur until it's too late.

We give him a garlic supplement every couple of weeks to keep the ticks/fleas off him but this one has slipped through the net.

He's never worn a collar apart from walking (2 years old now) so I'd rather avoid that if possible.
I'll give the vet a ring and see if he needs taking in or if we can treat him with some off the shelf antibiotics - hopefully I can find the bite where the little shit was after work and get it checked/cleaned.
Appreciate all the advice!
