Talking of which. Took her to the pet shop a few days ago. Gave her a good walk outside first and then we went in. Of COURSE she waited until we were inside before doing the biggest, smelliest jobby I've ever seen. It was the size of her. It just kept coming out. I didn't know whether to be proud or embarrassed. Or both.

Bobby is ignoring me. Will update in another thread but my mum is in hospital and I've been with her virtually all week. He refused to talk to me when I got home last night, just ignored me! My old dear always said he got in sulks, thought she was making it up.

So Penny now seems to be sleeping in our bed as of the last two weeks. Cue me randomly waking up to licks on the face at various times at night (insert joke here as you see fit).
Not sure I'm sold on the idea as we always said we wouldn't but... I do like having her near us. Think I might try to see if she'll start sleeping on the low chair in the corner if I put some bedding on it. This is a slippery slope but I don't have the heart to move her off it at night any more.

We have a ramp by the bed so Dudley can get up when he wants.
He even sometimes uses it, when the jumping up at us asking to be lifted up doesn't work.

In fairness, our sofa is a L-shaped (chaise lounge), with a footstool that effectively makes it a double bed and Major has a duvet of his own which goes on that.  He's not spoiled or anything. |

I'd love to let the dog on the bed or sofa but he has a bit of elbow dysplasia so we have to be extra careful  Though he's just as happy on the floor or stealing my slippers   |

Bob has come from my mum's, where he slept on her bed and ruled the sofas, to ours where he's not allowed upstairs, let alone on the beds and isn't allowed on the sofas! He's learnt and is quite happy on the floor on his mat/blanket.

Are some breeds of dog more 'reliable' (and consequently cheaper) than others in terms of their upkeep, health and well being? Sure I suppose the smaller the dog the cheaper they are to feed but just mooting things atm I suppose .... Guess if we were gonna look for a dog, essentially it would be a kids and cat friendly dog and not need tons of exercise every day but might be able to go for a 10K run as and when (I know dogs need to be trained to cope with any distance). Any thoughts?

Whoever said that having a puppy is a lot of work is lying, it's a piece of cake. Just kidding, I thought I was prepared for it, but it is worse than I thought and incredibly exhausting. But she is just the cutest and funny and an absolute cuddle monster. Here she is with her new harness that she doesn't like (the label says it's for dogs 8-14 kg, and it barely fits this 3kg puppy?):  |

The thing about puppies is that you just need to accept the fact they will demand a bit of your time. Our puppy stage is pretty much over and it's gone in a flash. Now she's just like a funny hairy house friend. For a few months though, it's pretty much all about them, but you wouldn't want it any other way.
