Have to post the obligatory photo tax now. Here she is just under a month ago. Her left eye (to us) is a bit of a state from the aforementioned attacks she's had but cannot see out of either.

Cheers. She is a lovely cat, very loving and happy. My other cat Jasper is same age (got them a day apart) and he's just as loving as well. They get on really well and usually cuddle together when sleeping.

Remarkably, vets just rang with blood results less than 3 hours after taking them. Good news! Kidneys responding well to the medication she's on as they've improved a bit. Keeping same dosage as before. They are very pleased with her health right now so don't want to change anything, especially increasing dosage since it's working well with her kidneys right now.
Now the relatively bad news. Nothing we can do about the ocular bleeding at this stage in her life. It may continue to happen for rest of her life as it's down to high blood pressure and only way to help it more is to switch to tablets from the liquid medication. But as that makes her miserable and lowers quality of life (forcing tablets down her throat stresses her out massively) then they say keep her as is and if it continues, to just keep giving steroid drops in that eye to lower infection rate.
Can't say fairer than that and pleased that at least her kidneys are improving and the blood in the eye isn't serious enough to warrant invasive messing.

Bless, she looks like a kitten there. She's a small cat. Almost dwarf. Doesn't look 16 at all!

Next door have two fluffy spaniels, both quite young. Youngest one is a month younger than Dudley and the other is maybe nearly 2. They're pretty good owners imo but they've gone off on holiday for a week, leaving them at home and they mentioned that someone would be dog sitting.
Well, I've barely seen the dogs going outside at all the whole week, and they're usually out a lot. We've seen their car turn up for ten minutes max at around 7pm, but again not much more.
Then while I was out this morning my partner heard the youngest in the garden whining for ages (haven't heard the older dog at all) so then she started filming on her phone because she was concerned, and that's when the woman started shouting at her, telling her to shut up and pack it in.
We kind of feel obligated at this point to let them know, because I'd be pretty fucking fuming if that happened to Dudley.

I would totally be letting them know. This. Especially if the person looks after other dogs as well.

Absolutely.
It sounds as though someone's cashing the dog-sitting cheques without doing any actual dog-sitting, which is pretty heinous behaviour.

God yeah. They sound like utter chancers at best. Give your neighbours the shifty eye for not getting someone reputable too

I've just remembered he's mentioned they've got a camera to monitor them when they leave them at home so I wonder if they've been checking on them.

Oof this is a tricky one to me, if you grass them up to your neighbour's they will for sure have a crap holiday. I mean for sure no doubt their furry friend means the world to them but it may be they will have no choice except to carry on with the pet-care they've paid for. What about if you offered to look after their furry friend yourself?

They should be back tomorrow so I'll wait until they're back, as you say I don't want to ruin their holiday.

So. After work on Friday I finally get to go and collect our little puppy. As a new dog owner, it all seems quite overwhelming. I even bought a book I've been going through specific to the breed and although we are prepared, I'm naturally a little nervous. I grew up with the family pets being cats, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits and fish. I'm very much an animal person, but never owned a dog before. The family she is coming from are lovely and we visited again last night, ended up staying for nearly 90 mins.
Any one with any tips, particularly on the first evening / night in her new home?

She will cry lots tonight and maybe for a while after too, you should leave them for the most part but a toilet break during the night where you pop them outside and then bring back in without affection is ok.
Training pads are ok for emergencies but it's much better to teach them to go outside from the start.
Crate training helps with toilet training loads as they won't defecate where they sleep.
Don't let them bite you and if they are a bit bitey with your fingers present a toy to bite instead.
If they have an accident in the house, don't shout just pop them straight outside and clean it up. Make sure you reward when they go outside

The only advice I'd give is a general one.
IT WILL GET EASIER EVENTUALLY.

It's not overly hard anyway to be honest, our puppy is an absolute delight. He was toilet trained in a couple of days and is no trouble at all. He likes a chunk of playtime a couple of times a day but other than that he is chilled.

It varies pretty wildly, though. Poor Zom was ready to fire his into the sun after a few weeks.
Fingers crossed yours is a chill dude, wunty.

Still am a bit, and he's over ten months old now. It does get way easier, though Kernow has been toilet trained from day one, he's a clean freak and will scream if he gets any poo stuck to his bum.
My two bits of advice: Don't skimp on training. My wife's friend got K's brother from the same litter. He was super docile at first and we were really envious at how easy he seemed. He had a few puppy lessons then that was it. Now he cries a lot, eats the floor and is by all accounts very difficult. Kernow's been through five cycles of school and will be in it for at least another year. He's still a scampy little weasel but he's way easier to control than he was.
If he's hyper, ignore him. Despite it not making logical sense, you can't physically tire out a puppy. If you throw a ball thinking ten minutes of chasing it will make him need a nap then be prepared to be throwing a ball for four hours wondering why they haven't started attaching puppies to turbines to solve the energy crisis.

Thanks guys. She seems quite a chilled out little thing, and the least rambunctious out of her litter. She's had a bit of toilet training already as well as some rudimentary training in other areas so I'm hoping that will mean we'll be off to a good start, just making sure that we follow on with the same words / methodology that the current family are using. Trying not to over think it all as it's a bit daunting now it's so close, but the Friday means I get the first two nights with her without needing to worry about work the next day etc.
Am I right in saying the cage thing is a gentle introduction, a few mins at a time at first. It's the first night in particular I'm thinking now. Take her out for toilet every two hours or so, ignore any crying (as in, don't take her out cage but perhaps reassure her I'm there)?
