Hope you manage to get some rest, Rob, and wake up to positive news in the morning.

He’s probably so scared all alone there. I guess he’s drugged up so that’ll help. That's the worst feeling but yeah, he'll be sedated to all hell so try not to feel bad.

Based upon my experiences of such matters, Danno's right - he'll be pretty drowsy, so hopefully not in any pain and not fretting, either.

No news overnight which I guess is good. Fingers crossed the X-rays and tests come back ok.
Apparently our insurance only covers up to £2k, and we’ve already spent that before any surgery. At least we’ve got that bit covered though or we’d be a bit screwed.

He has a broken leg, a dislocated hip and a fractured hip. They are still checking him for internal bleeding and he hasn’t been able to pass any urine. If he has any bleeding or he can’t pass his urine I think that’s probably it. Surgery to fix the leg and hip? £7k. Fuck. Also no guarantee he’ll make it through surgery or what his quality of life will be afterwards. What a fucking decision to make Edit: they are also monitoring his heart as his heart rate is so erratic. Devastated, but not sure what to do for the best for him.

To be fair, we probably could have paid more for a higher insurance payout. Hindsight is great I guess.
I don’t think I’d want to live with not giving him the op just because of money, but on the other hand that’s a lot of money to gamble on something with no guarantee of success. I mean, he is 11 and a half.

Yeah it sucks. They are monitoring him over the next 24 hours to see if he is fit for surgery so we’ll just have to see what happens.

I suppose looking at the worst case scenario, we pay £7k and he doesn’t make it. That would be gutting, but would I feel worse than if I refuse to pay and don’t give him a chance? Probably not.
Urgh. Guess I just try not to think about it until we hear from the vet.

Latest update is that they are trying to find somewhere different to do the surgery that would be much cheaper. Apparently they are subsidised or something. Could knock £3k off the price which makes it a bit more manageable. He’ll also have to be in a cage for 6 weeks post surgery. He’ll hate that. I think that aside he should make a recovery, all things being well. There is also all the follow up appointments and pain relief to think about. But at least we’d have him back. He might have to become a house cat though so he doesn’t do it to us again Although he still hasn’t passed any urine yet so who knows if he can actually have the surgery. It’s been a rollercoaster 24 hours. Just waiting for a price on the surgery and go from there.

Back when we had a cat her had to spend 6 weeks in a cage after a car broke his leg. He got used to it after a while. Fingers crossed yours takes a piss soon.

Not looking good for the boy Think the operation is more affordable than before and they can fix the breaks so as not to be massively life affecting. But he still can’t wee. They pretty much said he should have done it by now. He had a full bladder but it didn’t come. The wife was with him today and he was so out of it he didn’t respond to her at all. He’s also got a fever, possibly due to inflammation. If he doesn’t wee tomorrow it’s probably game over. It’s devastating, but not fair to keep him holding on if there is no chance of improvement. At least we’ve given him every chance, and we gave him a good life for 11.5 years.

Aye that's not a bad innings for a cat, sometimes you gotta just do what's right, such fragile little critters really, even though it sucks you've given him every chance though, sorry Rob.

Oh, I'm sorry. It's a horrible decision to make but the right one if he can't wee. Sometimes you're just forced to be the grown up because you can't ask anyone else to do it and it's hard.
