One of our 7 year old cats has started to look a bit thin this last week or so (we have twin females), she's always been a little overweight and greedy so distinctive is the change, she's still pretty chummy and hungry at breakfast time as ever but definitely not eating as much of her normal food. She still gobbles down any old treats that go her way. Her normal diet is (or used to be) Whiskas and some James Wellbeloved biscuits but just lately I've put off buying more of the JW and we've also probably lessened their flea treatment as money is tight. So after seeing her weight loss flea treatment has been reinstated and some JW cat food is on order. Fingers crossed she bounces back ..... Relieved to report that the reinstatement of their regular flea treatment and dry food has sent Velma bouncing back to being the greedy overweight muppet she's always been. As for Daphne we still hardly ever see her, the hussy, so no change there.

If there's that much of a difference, is there a more effective treatment. I know that some of the major names took some flak lately because (as parasites do) their targets got resistant

Danno we had alsorts of flea problems up to about 4 years ago having persisted with Frontline and alsorts of household sprays, room smoggers, powders etc but nothing really got on top of it then I did a bit of proper research and realised (as you mentioned) some fleas are completely resistant to certain brands so we switched to Advantage and literally overnight it did the trick for both cats and the entire house, really quite astonishing. So since then they got a dose every couple of months or so and that's eliminated the problem. Anyway cut to now and having moved house in January I've just left it a bit too long since their last dose but sorted now, they seemed to have the odd flea but not much for sure but now all eliminated overnight again and their fur is also much smoother/glossier too, it's amazing how quickly our furry friends can respond to little changes, so fragile. You can feel the fish oil in James Wellbeloved biscuits and the cats love them too. I had just put off stocking up as I buy the 10kg bags which are now £50 a go though good value when bought in the big bags.

One of ours is allergic to fleas so if we miss a dose, it can be a nightmare. Had to get the super-strength stuff for him from the vets. The other one manages fine on the Frontline Plus (the sub one from Pete at Home) it seems. But will also switch to the vet one for him when we run out. Slightly nervous that we're probably 2 weeks late for the dose now...

Midically, are fleas that bad for cats? Not sure they would cause loss of appetite and weight loss? Some of the treatments do kill worms as well though

Some cats can react horribly to fleas or change of diet, so it's not unheard of. Glad it's all sorted, Fred.
We had a horrible infestation when as moved house, and our usual monthly advocat prescription was doing nothing to help. Got a pest exterminator in and changed to a 3 monthly wet neck prescription last summer and the little fuckers have been gone since then thankfully.

I react badly to flea bites but non of my cats have ever had issues! Also I read your post as "got a pet exterminator" which I thought was a bit of an extreme solution !

Years ago back when it was really bad despite a massive de-flea with a flea comb every morning one of ours pretty much looked like Pig-pen from Charlie Brown, poor little thing. If you looked really closely at the floors in our house you could see they were 'moving', you'd get out of bed in the morning and by the time you'd got to the bathroom your ankles were covered and the final straw was our baby sitter refused to sit for us anymore!

Got my Bielsa Bucket. Within 20 seconds it was claimed. I’ve now been told I’m not allowed to sit on it.

Just had a knock from a stranger saying he thinks our cat may have been run over. He heard a ginger cat was run over and had seen ours before sitting on our wall. Went out looking but Lo and behold got a call from a vet (15 miles away for some reason!) saying come down asap it’s not looking good.
Mrs has rushed off but she was in a state so now I’m worried about her driving. They said they can’t do anything until we get there, which I guess means they want to put him down.
Happened right by our house, must have been hours ago and we had no idea. Why the fuck he was taken 15 miles to a vet I have no idea. Unless it was out of ours and that was closest.
He’s been with us 11 and a half years 😢

So he’s alive and awake (and responding to my wife) but apparently can’t move the back part of his body. Guess they need to do some X-rays. Waiting to see the vet.

They are going to do some X-rays on him tonight. They are worried about his bowel. If he’s done serious damage to it they think it’s kinder to put him down. So fingers crossed.
We’ve clocked up £2k in fees already. Thank god for insurance.

Thanks all. Just hoping the phone doesn’t ring in the night. Told them if he’s going to die, one of us wants to be there with him.
Poor little bugger. He’s probably so scared all alone there. I guess he’s drugged up so that’ll help.
