We're still taking baby steps towards letting ours roam free as they've been house cats for most of their lives. Currently just letting them out in the garden while supervised (in fairness all they do is flop down in the shade)
It's bloody terrifying, but we need to just let them explore a bit. Especially scary for me as my cats growing up were all outdoorsy and don't think any of them ever lived as long as our two have now.

My friend's cat has just been run over RIP Purrers, you were the loveliest and stupidest cat I knew. Mine is being overly friendlt to the neighbours. Got a call last night from someone a few doors down saying she was in their kitchen. Had to go an collect her. Not sure what to do other than warn all the neighbours and ask them not to encourage her.

All you can do really - it's summer, people's doors and windows are open and cats don't give a fuck. Just ask them not to feed or encourage them and boot them out after a quick fuss. /twitches.

Our new mog is getting out now we're back from holiday. We felt it was a bit mean to let it out then shut her in for a week while we were away. She goes out raking about for a bit, then returns to briefly return to base while loudly(very loudly) announcing her return. She funny. The furry weirdo. I think we'll have to do the same, we've been told to keep her inside for four weeks, but that then conincides with us going away for five nights, so better to wait until we're back then give her a glimpse of the outside for a little while and then stop her going out again. Going to be tough though, she's only been with us a day and she is already desperate to go out.

My dad was the complete opposite. If he found another cat in the house, he'd trap it in the bathroom for a bit to teach it a lesson or give it a kick
Which is weird because if someone ever did that to our cats I'd be livid

Micro-chip cat flaps have been a brilliant invention for unwanted cats whoring themselves all over the neighbourhoods!

Second full day of having the cat in the house, she has been christened Bella by my daughter and she's already settling into the family nicely. She wouldn't stay in her room much longer, so we've been keeping the door open and allowing her to gradually explore the house (we have a decent sized townhouse and have three floors so it can be dauting for the little thing), but today she has been exploring the halls, stairs and two of the other rooms we've left doors open to. She has been with me a lot of the day in the office, and I've just turned around to her lying behind my chair, so took a quick photo:

Oh yes, she is super affectionate, but also a little spikey rascal. She also likes heights, so will no doubt be climbing everything (including us, she likes to perch on shoulders)

Sweet, I was never very keen on tortoiseshell cats but then we got two and rest is history. On a negative point we had bird victim No 5 the other day since moving in in January. Mrs Mercury has always had a deep affection for Robin's as they were also her grandfathers favourite, she always said if one of the moggy's takes out a Robin then not to tell her, well it was only a matter of time.

My basement leaks whenever there's a big storm and it started smelling a bit mildew, so I bought this stuff to spray it down with. It reeks exactly like cat piss, so now every time it rains it reinvigorates the stench which permeates the ground floor. I'm considering the purchase of an industrial vat of fabreeze.

Well done Metro for neglecting to mention in the headline it was non-consensual and therefore sexual assault.

Finally put the dog done a week ago. Got home from working, he couldn’t stand up on his own power and couldn’t stay up when I picked him up. He eventually rolled on to his side and his rate of breathing changed rapidly. I knew it was time.
Found a vet I could just afford - emergency hours, who needs to pay rent - and took him in his final drive. I’d given up smoking a few days before so bought some smokes as I put enough gas in.
The vets were good. Gave me some time with him. He kept putting his head in the crook of my neck. Vet then came in, gave him the two shots, and away he went. He did keep opening his mouth, air came out, closed mouth, for minutes after his heart stopped.
Was very hard to leave that room. When I felt I could make it to truck without bawling again off I went. Asked if I could collect the paw print they made in lieu of getting his ashes - couldn’t afford individual cremation - another day. I’d quit drinking a few days before so headed straight to my local.
Supportive friends there. Three shots of top shelf tequila bought for me, hugs, kind words, a pint and then home
House still feels very quiet and empty. Keep finding myself thinking it’s time to feed him, or get home to let him out
Another few weeks and it’ll be time for a new rescue

Yeah. Sorry to read that Khanivor.
We lost our last rescue mog in jan. Got a new one a months or so ago & the house is finally like a home again.
Hope it's not too painful, the mis-remembering you need to feed them/let them in etc does fade soon enough. Not that it mitigates anything. 😢

Sorry Khani. It's hard but you have to remember the good times and the love and life that you gave him. And soon will another when you're ready.

Heartbreaking to hear stories like this. Had to have out cat put down in April. Got it done at home which was what he would have wanted as he hated going in the car to the vets. Still miss him but got a rescue cat a week later. Instantly felt like the right decision

I can't get your story out of my mind khani. Makes me sad even though I don't know either one of you. I would have gladly pitched in a few quid if that'd helped for you to have him cremated.

Appreciate it lads
It happened quick at the end. No time to do anything but get last of me money and have him go off to chase frisbees in the sky
