I had a treat in my other hand. The only thing that generates that kind of focus from himself for long enough to take pic.

Living up to the thread title... We've found it impossible to get wood pellet litter for our cats lately, so had to settled for some recycled paper stuff instead. They don't like it at all and seem to have pissed on every square inch of the floor around the litter tray. Fucking stinks!
Pissmageddon.

Oh shit. Or, well. Piss.
We use sawdust for ours. That's what they've always had. There's a wood mill around the way that produces all sorts of lovely things and they dry the sawdust and sell it for about £2 for a massive bag (although it's probably gone up slightly now). The empty bag I've just chucked lasted 14 months. Have a look on gumtree, maybe?
That said, no matter where we put the trays, one of ours always pisses on the floor, the little madam.
We bought a mat that's supposed to fit in a car boot, ridged at the sides. Trays go on that, some sawdust around to soak up what she produces out of the trays. It works really well.

...impossible to get wood pellet litter for our cats lately... Interesting, same here as well. Pets@home been saying they just haven't had a delivery in weeks. Was going to check Morrisons, they used to do some but in fairly piddly little ~5kg bags rather than the huge sacks pets@home do

My cats do their pissing and shitting in my neighbours's garden. Winds him up terribly. It's hilarious

minimatt yeah, we've checked supermarkets but they tend to just have empty spaces on the shelves next to the horrible clay stuff. Zooplus/paws/petsathome have all been out of it for a good month now.

oh bugger. just me or is this sort of thing happening a lot more often lately, like supply chains have been fucked, and for any given shopping trip the first question on returning is "did they have it in stock?" rather than "how much was it?"
i'm the epitome of liberal remoaner traitorous scum so I try to self correct from my default "that wasn't on the side of a bus was it?" but it doesn't feel entirely down to 'rona & russia (that said, I know NZ are having huge supply issues at mo, but figure that's largely down to them being a thousands of miles from another living sausage)

Well, just dropped the pooch off at the vet for his X-Ray.
After a nightmare at the vet's last time he was as calm as ever today, really helped the whole process (and stopped me and the missus from turning soppy). Dead proud of him, he's going to get spoiled so much tonight he'll not know what hit him.

Eblow dysplasia in both his forelegs Third dog in the litter to have this despite both his parents having 0's for their elbow scores. We've been incredibly cautious with him too since we got him. Gutted.

Oh mate. I'm sorry.
Give your boy a big hug from us.
Apparently hydrotherapy can be quite good for that. Maybe find out if there's anywhere you can take him swimming?

Thanks for the kind words and sympathies all, really appreciate it. I'll try and go into a bit more detail (and use it as a venting exercise), excuse the length! So - elbow dysplasia in both forelegs for my 1 year old Bernese male Cooper (who weighs 45KG)! It basically means the bones that meet at the elbow are slightly misaligned and form incorrectly, leading to cartilage wearing down, limping, lameness, potential bone fractures etc. due to extended exercise or excessive impact on his front legs. The good news is: - Vet said it's on the milder side. On a scale of 1-5 (with 5 being the most severe) she would score it a 2 from the X-Rays. - Surgery not required yet, potentially ever. Managable with supplements (already on), hydrotherapy (already on), pain relief medication when needed and controlled exercise. - Nothing life threatening in the slightest - His weight is great, slightly under (helps he's not a greedy dog) - Can still go for walks (though a bit more limited), and walk around freely on the garden and round the house Bad news: - It's not something he can grow out of; he'll have it for life - We need to avoid high impact activities; sadly this means fetch, tug-of war and general rough and tumble are out of the question - Vet's suggesting swimming, not hydro on the treadmill until he's fully grown. Hydrotherapist (who's a breeder of Bernese for 20 years and has won best in breed at Crufts) is suggesting the treadmill with as much water as possible instead from her experience with Bernese as they apparently don't do as well 'free swimming' and she can raise the water up to his shoulder in the treadmill. Pain in the arse conflict of interest, not sure who to go with, just want to do what's best for him. We were so careful it's frustrated us a fair bit - installed ramps on the garden to cover a few steps, he's never been up stairs, never been on the sofa, playtime with other dogs has been strictly monitored, walks have been fairly sedate etc. Sometimes you can do everything right and it still goes wrong but it's galling all the same. He's the third in the litter to have this, despite both parents having elbow scores of 0,0. Selfishly I'm mostly gutted about him not being able to play as much anymore. It's been our routine for nearly 6 months when I get in from work to have a 15-20 minute mess about on the garden with his toys and the idea that he can't fetch a ball again really fucking depresses me. The condition is mild but I'm terrified of causing him more pain; I've no idea at the minute where the balance is between keeping him healthy and allowing him to be himself/a dog; I don't want to treat him as if he's made of glass but I also need to do what's best for his health. So yeah, could've been worse, could've been better. At least we know now, we have a plan and we're doing half the things required already. Lad doesn't have a clue either, he's already forgiven us for leaving him at the vet yesterday. Argh. PS. He stole my trainer as punishment for the vet. Fair enough, he's earned it.

Bummer, that sucks rhaegyr as you say sometimes you do 'everything right' but things still turn out bad, the whole not being able mess about with your dog would be a real kick in the gut for me too.

I'd go with the hydrotherapist with decades of experience of your specific breed. Hope it all goes well with him.

Late evening walk/run with Dud. He'd been restless all evening after a day of lounging indoors with his Nana away from the heat, so I took him out to blow off some steam.
