Perspective is fucked in that photo: the one on the right is 7 month puppy and the middle one is about 55KG and build like a sideboard.

4 minutes of walking with Dud in the fields next to our house. There was a nice cool breeze after the sweltering heat today.
Also half-way through you can hear me say "bunny!" in a creepy way.

Indeed. Not related, different parents, 2 different breeders. Lovely dogs! We've got a Bernese too, just turned one - first time having the breed and we absolutely adore him. Taking him for an X-Ray tomorrow though as he's had an intermittent limp over the last few months, sometimes days/weeks apart. Hoping it's just growing pains but want to be doubly sure. Already started him on hydrotherapy, just in case. Fairly certain I'm going to go to pieces when dropping him off; I know it seems silly when it's just a routine anesthetic/X-Ray and we'll be picking him up about 4 hours later but leaving him anywhere on his 'own' gets me every time. Even leaving him at puppy class the first time had me in bits. Stupid lovable dog.

When I dropped Maj off for his snip, I was in bits.
They took him in and I went with him initially and I was petting him and distracting him whilst they gave him the shot to put him under. When it was time for me to leave, he was already dozy and he tried to get up to come with me and just collapsed and I fell apart. It was simultaneously one of the cutest and saddest things I've ever seen.
*Niagra Falls*
My poor boy. I totally understand.

It stems from taking my 18 year old staffy to be put down; had her on my lap as they did it except they didn't get it right and had to do it three times before it worked properly. I was beyond distraught.
Now whenever anesthetic's involved it brings back the above hard.
I'm not even worried about the X-Ray results; if it comes back showing something we'll get a plan together and work through it. We've practically done that for every eventuality anyway!

If it's a bitch, I'd take her to get fixed. A dog, she'd take him for the snip. Realistically though I'll be there if/when it happens.

I'm normally pretty sanguine about this stuff, but I'm really attached to this dog and the thought that I might not see him again (always a change, eh?) just broke me. No matter what, I'll be there to hold him when the time comes, though.

Reinds me of when we had the older of our 2 dogs (both standards) put down. He had started to fit/fall down stairs and all sorts so it was def time. I had to take the younger one for a run. Went on a massive walk, about 6 miles, came back and the vet was still there, so I did the loop again. Apparently he fought it every step of the way, and also needed 3 shots, the last having to go straight into his heart. My dad was a stoic sort but it broke him a little.

Sorry for killing the mood in the thread; I'll find a funny picture to post of the lad quick!

I don't have one of my other 2, but here's Ollie, the last Standard my mum had. I swear that dog was human. Was an amazing comfort to my mum when dad died, and on the morning Dad went into hospital, he would not leave his side. He just knew.

The guy we're looking after at the moment. He's such a fucking doofus. Will just stand there for half an hour like that until you throw him his stuffed toy. Bonus cat;
