Yeah, I've had a fair few tangles with Luna when trying to clip her claws and ended up looking like I fell into a briar patch. Laughed at the thought of trying to wash her and just looked for other suggestions.

We've just given them a brushing and they're still crawling with them. FFS.

As part of our ongoing battle with fleas we had the bright idea of giving the cats a shower and shampoo. Fast forward an hour and the state of my wrists suggest I should be put on a suicide watch list, my wife hit her head on the taps in the struggle and has blood poring down her face and our bathroom resembles a set from a cheap slasher flick. Avoid. Lol gotta love cats! Mine had massive flea issues till we got the vets to prescribe free treatments. Cannot remember what it was b it it was much more effective that the stuff you get from pets at home. Needed carpet spray as well though.

I know people don't like the look of them, but flea collars work really well. Both my dogs have one and never had any issues.

Aren’t collars toxic? If we just had one cat we could try it but with 3 they’ld definitely end up licking them.

Collars really are nasty stuff. Even the "non-toxic" natural ones use stuff like lemon oil and lavender oil which are very fucking toxic to cats... Talk to your vet and get some decent drop based treatment would be my advice. (along with treating the environment at the same time)
Not that the prescribed stuff that you put on their necks is exactly nice of course. I'd just put much more faith in products recommended by a veterinarian than some random rubbish from China on Amazon.

We get a drop-based treatment every month or two and it's very effective.

Is Loki still alive there?
If that was in cartoon form, I'd be expecting X's for eyes! 😆
Catnip high? They're totally relaxed & away with it either way.

Unfortunately we're in a bit of limbo at the moment as all the vets round us have waiting lists. They had a treatment a couple of weeks ago at the Rspca vets when they got their vaccines (they are rescue kittens) which seemed effective for a couple of weeks but is wearing off now.

As mentioned I'd give Advantage a go, we tried various other types and combined with house treatments and nothing worked, then used the Advantage and the results were nothing short of remarkable, within about 48 hours both the cats and the entire house was flea free, before you'd comb them every morning and get hundreds of fleas off each one and it looked like the carpets were alive, if you concentrated you could see the little fuckers jumping about, when you got out of bed in the mornings you'd end up with probably 30 odd fleas clinging to your ankles by the time you made it the bathroom, just awful. Personal experience of collars has not been great, on the cat we had before the current pair she disappeared for about 4 days having had a collar then turned up apparently a bit thinner and shit scared for the next few weeks and minus the collar, bizarrely I found her old (snapped) collar in gutter a few weeks later. Before then she'd also regularly turn up with one leg through the collar. We'll never know if the collar was to blame for her disappearance or not but vowed not to chance it again. We bought this from Amazon Fly-Bye 2x Ultimate Flea Traps with 12 Sticky Discs - Truly Replicates Animal Body Heat www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0043R2Q3U/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_RGH2KTYY3C3TS9NF0SXY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 but never actually used it as the Advantage negated any need, I've tried selling them on Marketplace but not a sniff of interest, I'd be happy to post them to you FOC if you wanted them?

What spot on have you been using? If it's one you pick up in store off the shelf, they are practically useless. The better stuff comes as a sub or you have to ask for it (at Pets at Home anyway). And the even better stuff from the vets - maybe give one of them a call and explain. They may be happy to prescribe the treatment as a one off

When you do the big house vacuum up make sure you spray into your bag or whatever type it is as otherwise they just breed in there.

Yikes, thankfully things aren't that bad yet. We brush off about a dozen from each cat every day but we don't see many of them in the environment, just the odd one on my leg. As a hairy fucker the paranoia every time I feel a hair move is nearly as bad as the actual problem. Cheers for the offer, we've just smoke bombed the place and the RSPCA say they should be able to bring a spot on next week so we'll see if that helps, otherwise we might take you up on it. They're giving us Stronghold spot on, which is prescription only, so it should be pretty good.

We've got two kittens coming in a couple of weeks, and I'm now in charge of kitten-proofing the house. When we got our first cat we were in a smaller place with less stuff and no kids paraphernalia scattered about- I don't remember worrying about the house being a potential death trap. Looks like cables and disguarded Lego will be the first challenge. Any tips gratefully received! If you have blinds with the loops of cord that open / close them then shorten them or just cut them , also be careful with tilt windows both can trap a cats neck , sorry for being grim but better to be safe , enjoy your new overlords .

Mine have been pretty bad for chewing on wires/cables etc, list of destruction also includes at least one wired ps controller, speaker cables, sofa, curtains, shower curtain, towels, carpets, bent blinds and my skin, one of them likes to chew on me when he's happy. I got some hosepipe, the plastic covered material kind, and cut it to length, slit it up the middle to enclose my exposed cables. Everything else I store on high shelves.

Highlighting this. It's easy to be lax about it but cats are maniacs and they will get deaded
