April mine is up, will get at least a few weeks before I cave in and get it on again.

I think I've said already, but when mine's up in August I'll bin it off. The 1st party exclusives have either been shit, or launched in a shit state, and like others I've had more fun out of the games I've coughed up for recently than the stuff on Game Pass.
It has given me value over the years though. I've been happy enough with it, and even found some gems I'd overlooked. It was especially useful to catch up on last-gen titles I'd missed by going all-in on PS4; I haven't had to buy an EA game in years either, which alone has paid for the sub several times over.
But if this is the best MS can do in terms of exclusives and 3rd party offerings, I think I'd prefer the simplicity of buying the shit I want rather than trawling for something I might wanna play. I'll be binning off PS+ at roughly the same time too for pretty much the same reasons.

I just add everything I like the look of to a group and pin this to home. Then just have a look through that group and see what takes your fancy instead of looking at an overwhelming wall of games.
I did have a bunch of different groups, like one with shorter games if I fancied a quick palette cleanser, but that got too messy to stay up to date with.
I can definitely see the merit of letting your sub lapse, though. Just grab a month or two when enough stuff piles up that you genuinely want to play.

Since about a year in I only ever look at the "What's New" list. Believe it or not, it's entirely possible that Game Pass just isn't that great and/or isn't for me and it's not that I'm doing it wrong somehow.

Grab a couple months per year, to catch up on stuff I want to play. GP is nice for me because of the day one indie games, for the most part. But those aren't usually that long. So a constant subscription would be a waste of money for me.

Yeah, that's probably the optimal way to go about these things as you both say. I wonder if part of me just wants to stick it to MS for being so unbelievably shit this time out.
The UI is getting worse (and I was never a hater). The download speeds are almost half what I get from PSN on the same connection. The console sometimes just won't load the store. Plus the exclusives have been bobbins, by and large.
Perhaps I'm just in a pitchforks mood.

I’ve got more out of Game Pass the past year than any previous year I reckon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Between Starfield, Far Cry 6 and now AssCreed Valhalla, not to mention my utter obsession with Hitman Freelancer mode in early 2023, I feel like it’s more than justified what I paid for it. I’m subbed until mid 2025, so that could all change by then, but it’s been pretty decent for the stuff I’d have otherwise bought eventually anyway.

Sure, but i do wonder how many people would still say that if they had to pay the regular amount. The Gold conversion trick has been a real boon (and it lasted longer than I expected too), but the regular price is relatively expensive. For 15 euro per month I'm not certain it'd be worth it, unless you are interested in the big MS games. And now Xbox Game Pass has been removed too, you either pay the full amount for Ultimate, or stick to PC only if you want to pay less.

Yeah granted it’s a lot. It would only take a few months of not finding games to enjoy before I’d start feeling ripped off at full price.
Conversely, I’d also have felt ripped off if I’d paid full price for Forza, which would have been a £70 day 1 purchase given how hyped I was. Turns out I’m not that into that kind of sim-lite racing any more no matter how round the wheels are.

I managed to pick up 2 3-month codes for PC Game Pass over Christmas for about £15 each. I've applied one of those and will apply the other at some point. Feels like it is a better idea to just sub as and when I'm likely to use it rather than have a constant subscription. Back when you had the conversion trick it was easier to justify, but not so much now. Plus, if there is something I really like and want to carry on playing then it is better to pick it up on Steam with the money I would have spent on the subscription, especially if it is game I would want to get DLC for (don't want to pay money on anything on the shit Xbox store) or play on Steam Deck.
And the sub I applied about a month ago has barely been used. Played a little Against the Storm, before finding out the Game Pass version had a bug where it would wipe your progress. I'm sure that has been fixed by now, but not something I'm going to risk with a rogue-like game, so just went and grabbed it on Steam instead. I do have Cacoon queued up to play, but currently in the middle of XC3 on Switch, as well as having FF16 and Cyberpunk to get back to.

I had an absolute ballache getting switched back to MS having control of my billing after my year with BT ended.
Although I'm not sure how much of that was related to BT support not telling me for ages that I needed to redeem a GP code for it to fully switch back. Possibly could've just done that at the start and saved myself the grief...

I'm about 80% convinved that this is happening because frontline staff probably get a bonus for convincing people to add Game Pass, and unscupulous ones are just doing it without even contacting the account holder first.

Like I said maybe all you need to do is redeem a Gamepass code and it'll switch back for you. Just make sure that you switch off auto renewal via the BT site now.
For me, my year with BT ended, but my MS account was stuck on "managed by BT/EE" and I couldn't see the actual expiry date of my GP sub (I think it showed up in the Xbox app though, so I wasn't getting free GP unfortunately)
I just had to keep contacting support via their forums (couldn't find any other way to get through to the relevant team), and they kept telling me it was sorted but every time I checked it was still showing as managed by BT. Eventually one of them said to try redeeming a code and that sorted it.

Ah I see, thought there might be a kind of ‘undo the fuckery’ code that needed applying. Thanks for the heads up

Been patiently waiting for that one. Perfect little game to tide me over for a few days until P3R drops.

Trump/Turnip boy robs a bank looks good, enjoyed the 1st game. Its out on the 18th of the month
Just finished this, it's a roguelite so different to the first, but good fun for the 5 or so hours it lasts. There is a bit at the very end where a checkpoint is sorely missing so I had to use the accessibility options to get through it.

I had a brief discussion yesterday with some random about Microsoft going ‘all digital’ and the discussion of digital monopolies came up. I am well out of my depth in regards to Apple apparently being forced to allow other companies to sell software outside of their App Store, but apparently the kind of legislation that enforced this could be applied to Sony and or Nintendo if there market share increases, which in turn would allow Microsoft to get Gamepass on PlayStation and Switch without the need of having Sony or Nintendo approve a licence on their digital stores.
Again, I’m utterly clueless on these kinds of things and should probably do some research, but it did sound like a fascinating theory, which if possible, could potentially cannibalise software sales on those platforms if it was remotely feasible, and would explain Microsoft’s shift to a more digital output.

At some point MS games will be only on gamepass. It wouldn't be in a couple of years but no doubt 5 to 10 years down the line. A lot of tv and films have gone this way, some have no 4k discs.
there is infamous quote "You'll own nothing and be happy"
I say all this from some that uses gamepass a lot but I like the option of buying a game either disc or download

Yeah just let it run out. Buy upto 3 years of gold off say cd keys then get one month of ultimate and it converts it.

I guess so it quickly before MS have their business presentation this week and drop any 'lovely' changes.

Just wanna say that thanks to Brotato my gamerscore now ends in a multiple of 5 once again.
I've been bothered by this since Threes came out about a decade ago. Now I can relax.
Never playing Brotato again, mind, just in case.
