Bit cut scene heavy at the start, so didn't get to play much. Looks good so far, doesn't mess about with the difficulty though so I'm going to have to get used to loading screens I guess.

Just done the first 45 minutes of Atomic Heart. Absolutely love the art style but tonally I can't believe they went full dude bro protagonist when they could have done a Gordon Freeman.

It's quite the sight, technically speaking. Only played the first hour but it looks gorgeous and runs butter smooth thus far. One of the more impressive looking games so far this generation.

Nobody else had massive freezes and fucked audio on the opening half hour then? Bit of a technical shitshow on my Series X.

I’ve put a good few hours in now and haven’t experienced any issues like that. It’s a bit janky in places, but runs just fine.
God awful main character aside, I’m really enjoying it. Once you unlock a few skills and upgrades and get some more varied enemies, the combat is great. The world is very weird too.

starchildhypocrethes Good to hear! Got it downloaded and played a bit last night, but got sidetracked with the footie and Tunic's Heir boss fight; thankfully Monday is a bank holiday around my parts and will play it during the weekend...

My Ultimate runs out in a couple of days. I assume the ol’ Xbox Live Gold -> Ultimate upgrade still works?

As far as I know, it does... just cancel any payment details and both subscriptions once expired, get your gold codes and slap an ultimate one on top of them.

My Ultimate runs out in a couple of days. I assume the ol’ Xbox Live Gold -> Ultimate upgrade still works? I did it at the weekend. 3 x 1 year Gold codes from CDKeys, followed by a 1 month Ultimate code (again from CDKeys). Total cost £110.76 for 36 months of Ultimate, £3 a month which is an absolute bargain. Can get it for £40 cheaper if you buy Turkish codes and use a VPN when redeeming them on MS, but personally didn't want to risk doing a step wrong and wanted to take the easiest route.

And yes, turn off automatic billing now, and don't let it switch back on when you apply the Live codes. I did mine a couple of days after my last sub had run out jus to be safe.

Did exactly the same a couple of weeks ago. Best deal in gaming.

Had a bash on Wo Long last night. A bit twitchy and I couldn’t kill some beastie in the tutorial. Sigh.. Seems alright though. Lovely character customisation

PSA - if you’re redeeming a code for Ultimate, do it on the website, not on an Xbox.
I was doing the Gold to Ultimate conversion trick this morning, and put the codes directly into my Xbox on the Store app. I figured that was slightly easier than skipping between screens on my phone. But every time I put in the Ultimate one month code, it got stuck on the confirm screen- just hung there, code didn’t redeem, no error message, nothing.
I eventually figured out that it was because my credit card (which it was checking for the recurring billing) was doing 2 factor authentication and wanting to send an SMS with a code- but the Xbox UI apparently couldn’t handle it. Redeemed the same code on the website and it worked fine.
Bit of a “cool story good sir” I know, but if it saves someone else half an hour of frustration…
Edit- lol are we still changing b r u h to good sir then

I also did the conversion today. Recurring billing was off and I’m not sure I ever paid with a credit card. So, it all went smoothly on the console. Three Xbox live 12 months, one month ultimate; boosh, Ultimate until March 2026.

Do you need to wait until your Ultimate runs out before you do the upgrade thing ?

Just trying out Valheim, game does not fuck about.
Just spent 2 hours...
Going hungry. Getting wet. Chopping trees. Going hungry. Getting cold. Building a workbench. Going hungry. Building a roof for the workbench. Going hungry. Killing wild boars. Building a campfire. Burning the fucking boar meat over the campfire. Going hungry again. Killing more boar. Burning that boar meat as well. Still going hungry. Building walls for the workbench. Getting tired. Building a bed. Bed needs a fucking roof and walls as well.
I need a lie down.

Kind of, maybe, sort of, yes, I don't know. No, but yes, but no, fuck knows.
To be honest I kind of spent half my time with it figuring out the controls. The tutorial (if you can call it that) just tells you to do stuff like build a workbench, but doesn't actually tell you how.
Looking at the bases people have built in it online just now has made me feel doubly inadequate.
Looks like an absolute time sink if it gets its hooks into you.

After 2 evenings playing Valheim I’ve got a shack with a bed and a workbench, level 2 tools, and a leather helmet from the few deer I found and shot. Once I have leather armour I guess I’ll try for the first boss, but it seems to be overseas, so I guess I need a raft.
I spent ages building a nice looking wooden chimney in the roof of my shack, with a wooden guard at the top to stop the rain coming in. Didn’t work- apparently fires need thatched roof above them, but not in an enclosed space. Now instead of my nice chimney I have a gaping hole in my roof, with thatch sticking out at the opposite angle as if a giant came and peeled it back.
The game seems a bit shallow and repetitive so far, maybe because I’m playing solo, but I like how it’s Skyrim-style levelling (get better at the thing the more you do the thing). And to be fair I’m only in the opening biome because that annoying bird told me I wasn’t ready for Black Forest yet, so maybe there’s more depth and variety once you’re past the tutorial part of the game.
