Vampire Survivors is pretty chill. Finished this today. The last achievement requires you to kill 100k enemies in a single run with a specific character, even with curse maxed out it still took nearly an hour. Good fun though.

Noticed Dragonquest XI is on the leaving soon list, ah well, maybe the next time it comes around I'll get chance to play it. TBF, DQXI has been on GamePass for AGES.

Not as long as Shadow of War though, that game has been up for more than 3 years now, you'd think MS would be about to buy Warner Bros and make them first party games.

Its my fault entirely for not playing it, well maybe the small storage space on the X is a bit to blame, I keep installing it, playing a few hours then having to delete it for the new shiny thing.

Just played through Somerville, a sci-fi puzzle game, brainchild of Dino Patti, the co-founder of Playdead (the company behind both Limbo and Inside). You experience an alien invasion, through the eyes of a young father trying to reunite with his family.
It's no surprise that Somerville resembles Inside a bit, the main difference being that it is not strictly side-scrolling, as it allows the player to move in the 3rd dimension (in or out of the screen). The art direction is really lovely, the music fitting and beautiful, the puzzles not too taxing and the game can be completed in a couple of sittings as it's 4-5 hours long. It can also net you easy 1000 game score, if you are that way inclined, with none of the 11 achievements actually difficult (no "complete the game with less than 5 deaths" or something) or missable (generous chapter selection helps with that).
I'd give it a 7/10, perfect GamePass fodder.

This is more Games with Gold rather than Game Pass proper, but it’s relevant for Ultimate subscribers.
This month’s free game, Bladed Fury, is pretty cool. The cover art is a little generic, but the actual game looks and plays like a Chinese take on Muramasa or Guacamelee, if anyone is familiar with either of those games.

Jeez, Stranded Deep looks like arse, and barely runs at 30fps on Series X. Gamepass really needs some basic quality control.

Weird that there were no new games in the second half of December and nothing's been announced for the first half of Jan - am I missing something or do the releases always slow down around this time of year?

Always slows down at this point and picks back up at the end of the month and into early Feb.

Nice. Currently waiting for mine to expire before I apply the Gold codes…

When I did mine (back in August) I had to pay a full month of Ultimate to get the conversion, rather than the £1 upgrade. Is that because I still had an active account?
It was still a great deal (came to about £50 for the year instead of the usual £108), but would be good to know for next time.

I think the 1€ upgrade works only once. After that, you let your current sub lapse, even outright cancel it, then stock up to 3 years of Gold and use a code (the minimum one you can find) for Ultimate.

Hmm... First time I tried it it did say it was £1, but didn't seem to go through. When I went through again it was saying I had to pay £12.99 or whatever 1 month of Ultimate is. Checked a couple of times and couldn't get the £1 deal up again.
I did originally sign up with a £1 for first 3 months deal, so maybe that is why.

The £1 deal has been known to pop again even if you've used it before, but it's usually some time after letting a subscription lapse and even then totally random it would seem.
Even if it doesn't pop, paying full price for a month to convert a Gold sub still works out cheap.
Been said before but don't feel like you have to pay for a month of Ultimate to convert Gold either, a simple 7 day Ultimate code of any of the key sites will do the trick too, usually cheaper as well.

Sub expired. I have two games installed which are not Game Pass 😂, and one of them (Diablo 2) can’t even continue my campaign without Gold at least. Ah, modern gaming.

I’m just using my MS Rewards to pay for GPU these days.
12000 points a time, and I’m on my second “free” month out of two already.

How?! After many years, I've only got enough points for the £5 gift card, so under halfway to a month of GPU

After many years, I've only got enough points for the £5 gift card, so under halfway to a month of GPU Every day: Max out desktop searches, including Edge bonus, and phone searches Complete the three daily quests on Bing (usually article, quiz and poll), plus the three or four extra clicks lower down Do the monthly cards that come up (usually about four tasks) Do the MSN Shopping “pick the cheapest” game Click on the MSN Gaming tab daily task Do all the Xbox tasks, daily, weekly and monthly

I do all of that bar the searches. I usually top out at around 8.5k points a month. So get a £5 card one month then £10 the next.
I much prefer my PS5 but mostly use the series X now just because of this.

It is literally click on 5 things on the xbox and load up one game and turn it off. It's just part of my morning routine now between turning kettle on and it boiling.
