I think they could definately cut some chunks out of some of the middle books. There were at least three in a row where the beginning was good, the end had a cool, important to the plot set piece, and then like a million pages inbetween where it felt like literally nothing happened.
Really happy with how the series has turned out so far. Was wondering how they were going to deal with the Matt situation and while the cut of that moment was pretty weird, probably the best they could do in the circumstances. Very curious to see what the final two episodes cover. I think the end of the first book is a bit messy and confusing, and if I'm remembering right, doesn't necessarily follow the deviations they've made for the show. Looking forward to seeing where they take things, and hoping it keeps doing well.

I think that clearly is the point that the matt actor parted ways. Apparently filming paused after 6th episode, so that makes sense that he never came back for some reason. Explains why it is so awkward him just bowing out in the series.

Book wankery aside, I guess he does come back, as there is a new actor, once our band of heroes have done whatever they are doing after jumping through this portal for the next two episodes?

Minor book spoilers: Yes he comes back, but I have no idea how they're going to do it, because he doesn't not come with them in the book. (Which means the decision to recast him must have been made by episode 6, and given his acting is spot-on and he's nailing the role, is probably sadly illness-related or something). I presume he's gone for the next two episodes which is going to make it a bit awkward in the final episode of the season as they'll only have 4/5 of the Ta'varen. Also in the book he does some stuff which kind of matters but again, as I don't think he was recast until S2, I'm guessing they'll have to rework that. This will also impact his story in the next season.

Also minor book spoilers: He doesn't actually do very much at the Eye of the World, though. Or in fact, in Book 2 for that matter (other than a lot of whining at Rand because Rand was a bit mean to him), except at the end, with the Horn of Valere. So I imagine he'll meet them at some point (Fal Dara?) when they're on their way to Toman Head and Falme... with his completely new face.

That was a good second-last episode! I could have done without the teen angst, but Magic! Sex! Min Farshaw! Oh, and the person wot is the Dragon is revealed, I guess. Surprise! (it's not a surprise)

Yup ep.7 really good. Loved the opening scene. Lots of ‘pillow friends’ going on! Plot moving onwards!

I loved the stealth appearance(s) of Padan Fain. Apparently he's had a couple of cameos since the first episode, but I've only been able to catch the whistling.

That was a great episode. Do I have to spoiler everything? Oh, go on then. You probably shouldn't read this... Tigraine/Shaiel on Dragonmount! Great opening. Aiel predictably bad ass. Those poor Companions. Cadin'sor looks shit though. The ways we're good. Good to see Min belatedly. The Blight wasn't quite as I expected but Fal Dara was exactly so. Looking forward to seeing Aginor and Balthamel, or whichever Forsaken they choose to represent old Papa Lies at the Eye. Have we really got to wait until Xmas Eve? Boo.

The badass woman ninjaing fools whilst in labour was pretty cool. Liked the cut of her jib.
They need to sort out Randall’s lego perm though. It’s bad.
Interested to see where all this goes long term. It’s pretty good.

Haha I also dislike the lego perm.
Episode was OK, got a bit Hollyoaks at points, hoping the final episode is exciting enough to rope me in for a second season.

Episode 3 was terrible. Possibly because not enough Moraine.
On to ep4 which people seem to think is good.

Didn't mind the teen angst because it was pretty well-done, and also just man Rosemund Pike is fucking great, practically hypnotic at times. All the kids seem well cast for this. Spoilers: Min is well-cast, not quite what I expected but she works. I was wondering how they'd get her in there. Aiel was amazing, and whilst she was mostly an action movie badass, she actually used good tactics a few times in the fight, which well it's unusual in fantasy shows. Agree re Fal Dara. The Blight was like I expected but way more dense and lower to the ground. Scary AF though. Found the family scene with Lan strangely actually moving. Possibly just very well done. Dragon reveal was better-done and less heavy-handed than I expected

I'm enjoying it, though it does feel like they're skipping through stuff too fast at times.
Some of the stuff in Tar Valon is a bit like a montage scene where they just jump from Moraine interacting with character A, to character B, to Character C etc.. but they don't really feel connected at times.
Then again, the one episode where they slightly slowed down was #3, which I didn't like.

I'm intruiged to see the last ep of the season later but it has been very up and down. Well, more down than up. I thought the last two episodes were largely awful with 7 being one of the shittiest things I've ever sat through with its nonsensical dialogue, piss poor acting and terrible pacing.
There are still bits of the show I really like though, but I genuinely think I'm only watching it for Rosamund Pike at this point.

This is rubbish and I’m sick of pretending like it’s not Right? It's on par with The Shannara Chronicles, for me anyway, whilst costing a bajillion more. Maybe it'll improve like The Witcher did in its second season.

Hey Book wankers, is Rand al’Thor as big a dick on the page as he is on the screen? For a hero of incredible power he is dumb as fuck and utterly lacking in charisma. Ep.8 felt unsatisfactory, it left so much hanging. Season two needs to hurry up. I did love the end scene though. Oooh who are they?

Rand is not my favourite character, but he does grow a lot after the first book.
The people at the end... well, you can't really talk about who they are without going into future plots. But they are not good news.

So not a great finale. First ten minutes was good then it went downhill. Some walking about in the woods, cheap off screen battles, a magic rock macguffin and disappointing final showdown.
Also if you have a magical spell that electroblasts tens of thousands of enemies maybe open with that? Rather than sending an army to certain death.
Magic horn in a box, am I supposed to care? Why are they digging it out now?
Random boat people making waves in a place I don't recognise wasn't a particularly strong finish.

Scruffy Morraine gets a 10/10 for me. Rosamund Pike is the best thing in it by a country mile.
Finally got to watch the last episode in 4K and…yeah. It has rooms which are a bit Knightmare. I’ve enjoyed my time with it, but it needs to do better for the next season for me to keep watching.

That was genuinely a bit disappointing and something of an anti climax.
Good to see old Elan Morin, though. The mad fucker.
