Can’t you just scan it into a banking app of your choice?

Got a tax refund after selling my bike. A whole £7. Paid by cheque. FFS, I know I should just be grateful for the free money (I know it's not free but I wasn't expecting it so it feels like a little win) but who the fuck has time to cash cheques!? Such an outdated way of doing things. Check your bank's mobile app. Many have a way on them to cash in a cheque just by taking a picture of it. Mine (1st Direct) does, as does the HSBC one.

Wow. I did not know that was a thing. I'll have a look.
Edit: Sigh, not with my bank apparently.

You can pay cheques in by app these days (or at least I can with Lloyds)
Damnit, the "new" button catches me out again

Aye, I did that with a cheque (i think it was a dvla road tax return too). The cheque scanning on the banking app was a bit iffy, but got there in the end!

Blimey, I must type a lot slower than I thought I did.
(In reality I clicked a load of tabs open for topics I planned on reading during a break from work and this thread was last).

You can scan a cheque in with an app nowadays. This is news to me, but makes absolutely perfect sense now that you mention it... I've had a cheque on my desk for the past 4 months now FFS.

Our local council has been changing all the street lights to energy efficient, non intrusive ones which is positive. Today they had workers on the lights surrounding our house and all they did was changed the globes over. So we still are surrounded by 3 midnight suns.
They have swapped every other fucking light post over and put more up in areas that don't even need them. These lights have bugged me since we first moved and finally thought it was going to change for the better.
TBF street lights are one the biggest waste of electricity and money. Useless fucking things in the first place.

I have lights on my car that seem to work well enough and street lights make it easier for the monsters to hide in the shadows. Same with those stupid security lights people seem to think are useful, which I might add I don't need as the street lights light up my yard like a shopping centre. I can read a book in my bedroom with no need for lights, saves on the leccy I guess.

Our local authority seems to phase the street lights, that is there's a few nights per week when the street lights are unlit, it's absolutely pitch dark (unsurprisingly) on a moonless night.
On a separate issue just after I moved into a new build back in 2000, the street lamp people rocked up one day whilst I was at work and went about installing a lampost outside my neighbours house, by all accounts she came out and gave them an earful so I ended up with the lamp about 3ft from my bedroom window, (the neighbours across the road informed me). Thanks neighbour, still, they split up not long after so fuck them, not that I'm bitter.

They changed our street lights to supposedly energy efficient ones. It's like being in a football stadium now as they're that bright. I'd have thought they could dim or even turn them off in the early hours when we're all asleep and save some money. I thought we were all trying to save the planet.

I have one of those new street lamps outside mine, it's bright but does appear to dip when no one is in the street, which is most of the time.

If you live somewhere rural, then streetlights are quite useful as you get that real country dark, which burglars thrive in and are bountiful.

The old sodium lamp right outside the front of my house had been out for about 2 years maybe even 3 until the other week there. I was in my little room working when the van came along and the guy started knocking seven bells out the thing to take the old head off.
I got really anxious as I I clocked they were putting a new LED head in and thought this is going to fuck my bedroom and lounge with bright light.
It got to evening and fell in the house, looking at the lamp, you wouldn’t even know it’s on. It’s amazing - it lights up the car right below and the pavement and a kit of the front garden but other than it’s absolutely perfect.
The first thing to go right for me in a while, house wise

I think this one fits this thread perfectly
People spelling Savile with a double l
But it's kind of disrespectful to not know how to spell his name properly, so it's kind of a good thing. Even if it's wrong. And people should know better. But should carry on doing it

The Hare and the Tortoise, the moral is supposed to be slow and steady wins the race. The Hare is characterised as quick but ultimately aimless and idle, and the Tortoise is slow but unrelenting.
But I've seen tortoises in real life and they have no concept of competitive sports. Hares don't either but I've never come across one that's overly confident of it's own abilities.
It's just rubbish.

You're misreading it. The real moral is that people who bounce around energetically all the time are annoying and deserve to lose.
