To take the record and his team to the World Cup semis and he’s absolutely bottled it. No wonder hasn’t got his move to a big club. Someone pay attention to me. It's Kal baiting. There's a weird thing with some of the Utd fans and him.

I think that is the best we played at a tournament since 96 and 98. Proper performance. Just fucking shit refereeing, bad luck and a moment of quality for their goal. Don’t think I been so gutted about an English loss since then.

Taking Saka off is as big an error as Kane accidentally doing something more appropriate for Twickers.

I wonder if Harry Kane is going to get racially abused on social media for missing that penalty?

Kane missed a penalty. That's the fucker. We would have won that in extra time, no doubt.

I feel sorry for Harry Kane, but at least he had the balls to stay on the pitch and stay composed afterwards instead of sulking off down the tunnel.

I'm fairly sanguine about that. It's disappointing and the ref did us no favours, but I don't feel cheated in the same way as the many losses on penalties. The best players in this team are young and the future has never been so bright for the England team. The French are the best in the world and we probably edged it on balance of play. I have no idea why Southgate took Saka off, they were terrified of him and we immediately lost the threat on the right. Bellingham also superb. Foden had a good second half. Actually feel for Harry Kane which is a thoroughly unpleasant and uncomfortable sensation. Doesn't deserve that legacy, football's very unfair. He was good tonight and didn't let anyone down this tournament. Agree with this, but think Saka was absolutely knackered by about 75 mins. Just prior to the second France goal he was a bit off the pace in getting back, which he'd been doing all game brilliantly prior to that. Understandable given his work rate. Think I'd have liked Grealish on a bit earlier. Sterling coming on was a mistake for me. Nit picking though. Thought England were superb and really hope Southgate stays so we can have another go at Euros.

Ah of course! Been so long now I'd totally forgotten about that. He didn't play in the semis. David Platt played right back.

If you've lived through '90,'96,'98,'02,'04,'06,'20 then this disappointment is a comparative cakewalk.
In all those exits their were moments I really thought we might win. Despite playing well, for whatever reason I never really believed tonight. Was always braced for the gut punch.
I wonder if we keep with Southgate now. He's been the most successful England manager in my lifetime and I'm not sure if we can do better. We can definitely do worse.

In fairness to Southgate, I thought he would bottle it and play three at the back. He didn’t and they could have quite easily won it. That’s progress

England can take a lot of heart from that, much the better team especially for the majority of the second half. They have to start building their tactics around Bellingham, but not sure if Southgate is the right man to do that.

I like how they always play end credits when England go out. Always feels like it's the end.

I don't think Southgate is particularly tactically astute but to some extent I feel like making the players not hate each other might actually be somewhat more valuable when it comes to international tournaments.
Someone more tactically astute would be great but if they can't keep the team spirit it might not be great.

England should be considered the favourites for the next Euros. Belgium are done. Spain need to rebuild. France and Portugal are on their way down. Italy probably won't qualify. Southgate has the young team to build on.

Ah yes, that would be the diving and snide fouls being refereed with England captain privileges and reliably scoring penalties against 'your' team. But, as an Arsenal fan, when he's in an England shirt he's 'ours' and he didn't deserve that, having carried worse England teams when we were crap. He's also quite inoffensive off the pitch, it's not the time for schadenfreude.

It's why Harry should have gotten the job instead of Woy.

It's really annoying that we as a nation can never take a second to congratulate an likeable bunch of reasonably young guys who have given their all but instead have to resort to stupid trolling without missing a beat. There's a large section of football fans in this country who don't deserve the success they crave.

Before the tournament I was worried by Southgate’s conservative approach. I think he’s turned that around and deserves a go at the Euros.
Probably a France/Argentina final, which would be fun. I’d be ok with Messi winning it. At least it’s not Ronaldo.

And just to go geordie fuckwit for a second, Eddie Howe would absolutely win a tournament with these players.

Southgate has the young team to build on. Mbappe is 23. Camavinga is 20. Saliba is 21. We'll hopefully be among the favourites but France aren't going anywhere.
