Most of the England football team (if not all) holiday in Dubai constantly, I'm pretty sure they are not bothered about the human rights and LGBT rights issues in Qatar. Also I'll do anything for money Mr 'nice guy' David Beckham seems to love the place.
I've got to stop in Dubai airport for a transfer next year on holiday and that makes me feel dirty.

I'm a massive sports fan but it's being held at the wrong time and in the wrong place. I'm struggling to get even remotely exited about it. It's nearly Christmas ffs. Hopefully God Of War will keep me keep me entertained until the Prem is back on boxing day.

Lolololol at Blatter saying it was a mistake to give Qatar the world cup Presumably, he means that the bribes weren't enough.

Feels horrendously selfish of me to say so, but I'm a little aggrieved that they (FIFA) have ruined (for me) something I'd otherwise be extremely excited about, by hosting it in Qatar. I only care about it in the sense that I have the same issues most do with regards to human rights abuses, homophobia etc.
Oh well - only another 4 years till USA/Canada/Mexico...

Assuming in four years the USA doesn't make Qatar look like a haven for liberals by comparison.

I think I’ve decided not to watch it. It feels like an absolutely futile drop in the bucket but football deserves better than this and has for a while. Agreed. I work with a sports company and so many people are working really hard to make the game inclusive, this just shits all over it. Absolute joke.

I do wonder how many people will actually refuse to watch it because it's in Qatar? I mean people were obviously very chill with the last one in Russia, I'm currently undecided as I've gone off the boil with football over the years, not living in England has made a massive contribution to that fact. The amount of money swilling around really has killed my joy for the sport and this World Cup seems more transparently soulless than ever.

The decision has (for now) certainly been made easier by moving to winter. Tick, the football season ends, tock, the world cup/euros start.
Maybe its just me but just every shred of excitement I usually have for a WC has been sucked out of it almost purely because of that, let alone how bent everything else is.

Yeah, me too.
Christmas work parties and events clashing with the World Cup is really odd.

I'll probably watch, as my boy is really excited about it and I don't really want to ruin it for him. I've made him aware of some of the issues at a high level (obviously without any of the gruesome details), but he's a 10 year old who loves football. I want to enjoy it with him but it feels kind of wrong.

I am absolutely livid that more isn't being said. As much as I admire Lineker for some of his tweets, is he doing anything about this?

It's just the first of three Squires cartoons on the subject I have a feeling they'll get progressively worse on foreign worker treatment.

I'll watch it but I can't get excited about a winter World Cup. It's just wrong.

Yeah Winter World cup is nonsense, giving it to Qatar is ridiculous and corrupt as hell, will still be watching.

I wonder if the Southern Hemisphere countries are equally wound up about not having a summer World Cup instead of winter ?!

I wonder if the Southern Hemisphere countries are equally wound up about not having a summer World Cup instead of winter ?! South Africa have their season same time as us. Same with Australia more or less. South America varies and some places like Brazil do have their season through the summer. But those nations invented the WC and made it a summer tournament so they only have themselves to blame.

Mad that Callum Wilson's going to score a hat-trick in the WC final. If you'd suggested that yesterday, no one would have believed you. Yet here we are, smh.

I know Southgate likes to be loyal but a couple of baffling Big Club choices in there. Nice to see others getting in due to form though.

Good that Maddison got in. Two minutes all season for big Kalvin: at least he'll be fresh!

Happy for Ben White he's been so consistent, had kind of hoped he wouldn't get picked though from a purely Arsenal point of view.

Coady getting in is crazy. He's dog shit. At least he actually gets to play, there are some total benchwarmers in there alongside him.
