Also disappeared - Peperami In A Roll They were sooo nice, sad you can't get them anymore. You can try and recreate them by wrapping a piece of white bread round a standard Peperami but it's not the same, the magic just isn't there I don't know what peperami is also, I am assuming you all know that pepperoni is not a real word and "peperoni" are actually vegetables. Wow do you lack smiles though. On the .it forum we had a lot of very unusual ones, could we import them? I assure you they are cool. Maybe mildly disturbing. Ok some are plain offensive but c'mon this is the Internet right?

There were 'official' Heinz Baked Beans pizzas a decade or so ago but they've disappeared now Proper delicious they were, our Italian friends would have loved them Papa John's still does them sometimes

I invented baked bean pizzas before Heinz had the idea, FUCK YOU HEINZ.
Of course, I would never lower myself to such a base culinary level now.

Arkler - Is it true that the best pizza comes from Naples? Well yes, a lot of places in Naples and in general near Naples make an incredibly good pizza. But you can find places more or less in every part of Italy that are able to keep up with them.

My biggest exposure to Italians was when I spent 3 months in China with 8 Italians.
Ate a lot of “Chinese spaghetti” (noodles) with them but they all refused to try anything beyond plain boiled noodles.
Also tried “Chinese Ravioli” (dumplings) but they all refused to eat that.
Then tried a Chinese steak house but it was all “too raw”.
Eventually convinced them to go to Pizza Hut and it was an interesting experience when they admitted that despite being “An American Abomination” it was pretty much the only place they would actually eat anything outside of the hotel. They complained continuously about “how wrong” it was though.

There's not enough ice-cream chat in this thread. One of the best ice creams I had was at a little place in Malcesine on Lake Garda. It was also there I learned that proper banana ice cream should be grey, if it's yellow it's fake.

Well, let's not talk loudly about it, but the last pieces of those supposed-to-be """pizzas""" were used to feed bats in Wuhan.

I've never had ice cream in Italy. I've had gelato, but not this ice cream of which you speak.

At my cousin's wedding in Lucca they had karaoke. Apparently the Italian and the British interpretation of karaoke is very different. The Italians were all busting out love ballads and opera songs, the pissed up Brits were singing Yellow Submarine.

Everybody loves them, they do dishes that other restaurants don't have. Ramen, sushi, sashimi, gyoza, udon. I've never had ice cream in Italy. Sounds like they'd love a Japanese restaurant too!

Sounds like they'd love a Japanese restaurant too! Yeah definitely, we mostly love the japanese dishes in their menu. But unfortunately only chinese people come opening chinese/japanese restaurants. Very rare to have japaneses come here to open one.

The Italians were all busting out love ballads and opera songs, the pissed up Brits were singing Yellow Submarine. Yup, I've sung karaoke in Napoli with pissed-up locals. They were all singing Italian classics, all ballads, to rapturous applause and my missus dared me to sing. I did Ashes to Ashes, passably, and was then humiliated when the karaoke DJ played it back at me when I was walking offstage (they record them all apparently and put them on their website each night for the locals, it's a big thing). The lady compere then dragged me onstage again (I think they were amused a tourist was in there as it was a very local bar for local people) and made me sing a duet of Rolling on the River with her. Her English wasn't great so she would just shove her hand in my face and shout STOP! whenever she didn't want me singing (I am vaguely sentient and understand the concept of a duet).

There was three years ago. I would hope the wayback machine did not archive that for posterity.

I have a Chinese wife and we tend to eat a lot of Italian food* as it is a nice middle ground between English and Chinese. *Not proper Italian. The most surprising thing for me was how picky the Italians I was in China with were. (I work with a few very picky Brits but even they faired better in China** than those Italians). **A very large amount of my work is in China. I have spent about 4 years there. It is also how I met my wife.

My random internet translation service responded to that with "off". I assumed there was an accompanying "fuck" involved somewhere

Bananuses? But he meant pineapple. You can travel the world and everyone will understand "ananas" except english speaking countries that probably saw the fruit the first time and thought "weeeell it looks like a pine, but it's a fruit like an apple. That's a pineapple I guess". They are lucky, they were so close to being called flamboyant potatoes.

I remember me and PES and someone else going over to the IT forum and causing a bit of a stink.
It was some kind of cultural exchange based on Stefansen invading the main forum. Shame those pages are gone, I wouldn't mind reading them again.
