The main thing I took away from that is is the original seems to have dated a lot better than I expected. I replayed it a couple of years ago and it didn't feel dated at all. There were a couple of crappy bits like shooting the meteorites, but they were crappy even back when it was made (my first playthrough stalled at that point back in the day). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the original to anyone who has access to it. |

There is nothing wrong with it, I just don't find it interesting. I would prefer a new story that looked like 2008 Dead Space over this remaster. But yeah, if I hadn't played the original yet, I'd probably be interested. I think there is a game coming out that is basically this. I saw some footage for it the other day but I'll be fucked if I can remember what it was called Edit: it's already been mentioned a few times, Callisto Protocol Actually it smacks of some EA exec getting wind of it and having that realisation that holy fuck this was us years ago and we fucked it up. Lets remake it if that's what people want |

I believe its actually coincidental and it was an internal push to get the series rebooted so they went with the safe option of a remake to as a backdoor way of greenlighting a sequel.

You already have an excellent base to work with it's essentially the same core game with some embellishments here and there. The sound design is still excellent so I'm getting this regardless.

It's good that they're remaking this, I had a hankering to give it a play through a few months ago and it's completely broken on modern systems. Utterly broken physics, janky controls with negative acceleration issues with a mouse, just an all around mess.

In my mind, it always looked good, and the videos I've seen makes it look like I remember, so I always take that as a good sign.
That said, I'll avoid booting up the original so I don't spoil the memory of it...

Dead Space is one of best horror games of all time IMO. I am more excited for Dead Space Remake than I am for RE4 remake.
This remake looks immensely good as well. Completely faithful to the original, but I did hear they will mix it up slightly and also add in some new areas to make if feel fresh.
I was so looking forward to the Callisto Protocol and was severely put off with the emphasis on melee combat. Luckily, it looks like the Dead Space Remake is going to be immense.
I really hope this one sells well that they consider a DS2 remake as well. I probably prefer that even over the original....maybe.

For a moment I thought they were remaking Dead Space 2 as well. I just thought it was funny that the 'does it really need a remake?' question gets a slightly different framing by the fact that you can jump right into DS2 when you've finished it.  |
