You're remembering the original looking way better than it did.

I always think unless they’re going the total reinvention route part of the art of good remaster/remake is giving you the game you remember/imagined playing at the time.

Yeah, which is also why all those remasters are uninteresting to me. Why would I play the same game again, when I don't even feel it looks any better than it used to?
Give me a new game instead. Or don't, because there are enough other developers out there able to create a new original game worth playing.

Dead Space with new shinies and moder QoL improvements. Plus I smoked a lot of weed then so won't have remembered everything.
Yes please.

Yeah I did enough drugs in my 20's that my memory lasts about 6 months tops now so all these remakes of my favourite games are great.

Or don't, because there are enough other developers out there able to create a new original game worth playing. Its why you have to give credit to capcom with their RE Remake template. They have perfected the formula of cashing in on their old IP while giving old people a new enough experience to be worth 50 quid. This Dead Space looks to hopefully be more RE Remake than Last Of Us But Shiny, which is fine by me.

Hope they do something with the dualsense for all the stomping of limbs I will be doing with every body I see.
Got so paranoid first time around I'd spend the first 5 mins in any new area stamping on everything.

Use the triggers for alternate left and right foot stomps like the kneading and scratching in Stray

I was all about the mulchinator. Hopefully they can get the dualsense involved to make it feel even more mulchy.
The weapons seem to lack a bit of oomph in the videos they've released so far, I'm hoping they're working on it.

The new footage doesn’t really look any different to how I remember the original game. Enemy models weren’t very detailed. Probably won’t be obvious until it’s on a 4K screen without compression etc. Your memory is probably being a bit more vivid than you think: It's very, very visually faithful which is probably why though.

Yeah when people say the original still looks good and visually close to the remake it really isn't true. The level detail in the remake is on another level. I think there's some truth to what user Duffking says about how the remake has the same visual design so you're brain is doing some work.

I'm more concerned about the audio design, more specifically Isaac's voice, WHICH SHOULDN'T BE THERE!!!

I found a gameplay video of the original, which does a good job of showing the environment detail and lighting difference. Still, I trust my memory more than some YouTube video. They can do all this with computers now. youtu.be/nqvYW0xsyCU

It definitely helps the memory that Dead Space looked great and still mostly holds up

I was convinced the trailer was going to kick into the current version of the game, amazing how much heavy lifting our imagination did back then.
I am conflicted though. A quick wiki confirms my memory, in that EA effectively killed off the series with Dead Space 3, a few years later then closing Visceral games.
EA wasn't happy with sales of 4 million with DS2, which roughly matched the original. A studio lead and level designer said DS3's original design of retuning to the survival horror roots of the original was then binned by EA, who wanted the game to have a more mass market appeal. Horror replaced with action and set pieces, traditional co-op with wider open spaces to battle in along with micro transactions. Unsuprisingly the game didn't sell as well as DS2 and killed the series.
Even Viscerals suggestion of making the co-op part of the story, with another player dropping in as shadow Isaac, representing his imagination and broken mind due to the horror and trauma he'd been though was canned for something more traditional.
Adored every bit of this series up until 3. Now we've got to pay £70 for a fancy version of the original for any hope of the series being picked up again, when EA fucked it in the first place.

Sign me the fuck up for this. It's like a remixed version of the first one, plus the detail is pretty stunning.

It's like a bunch of old farts only wanting to listen to old albums and watch old movies. Let's put all the talented artists and creators onto new ips and the gaming releases would be so much more exciting.

Did you like your own post?
Also, I thought this wasn't actually by Visceral, but by EA Motive. They haven't really proven themselves as apart from Star Wars Squadrons, they've only worked in supporting roles. So a remake of a classic is a good way to test their capabilities, in addition to Squadrons, that is.
