See, that meteor section I do remember and I remember it was awful. So glad when I realised they'd binned it, although admittedly the alternative felt pointless. To me it felt like, “oh, you don’t like difficulty spikes?” (blows some dandelion seeds towards you. They float around slowly.) “DEAL WITH THAT, PUSSIES!”

I’ve been finding new game plus far too easy and uninteresting because of it, caved and watched a YouTube vid of the alternate ending.
I think I’ll do my usual trick of trading it in then buying it digitally for a second run on sale in a year or two.

Don't think I'm ready for NG+ yet. I've never been able to just batter straight into NG+ from finishing a game. Will leave it til the autumn and do another run then I think.

I’m odd with this, because I remember things like specific, nondescript *corridors* like, “ah yes, this corridor shaped like this” from the original, and a lot of the rooms of course, but I don’t remember anything about the leviathan. I thought the way they changed the meteor sequence was shit, not slightly challenging, but I suspect it was a tutorial for the way it was used again later in the game, which clearly couldn’t have been in the original (despite my total lack of memory of that first or second leviathan fight) Glad it asn't just me that wasn't a fan of the new meteor sequence. That bit needed threat that the new version just didn't have. I honestly think the old version was better.
I'd say a lot of people's playthroughs came to a hard stop at that point in the original (I know my original playthrough did). Dunno if the game was sending data back to the devs at that time in gaming prehistory but I suspect they got a lot of feedback on it.

Oh, it was no secret, no special technology required.
I’d have liked them to do a sequence like that where yes, the bar to progress was lowered, but people who could do the hard as nails version were rewarded. Eg, destroying the last meteor, that most people were stuck on, prevented a store room getting destroyed, and you could recover some stuff. Other players would just walk past an obliterated room.

Not a bad idea. I went into NG+ expecting big changes, a new enemy and an alternative ending.
It sounds great, but in reality there are not any big changes at all, its mostly the same except for the ending, but that's only about a minute long.
A 2nd play through can easily wait.

Late to the party, but damn this is pretty fucking good so far! ...apart from the pulse rifle.
I have a feeling this is going to take me a while to finish given how slowly I'm moving around so I can check every corner.

The pulse rifle is the bomb!
…
Seriously, the alt fire bomb was my go-to the whole time.

I somehow fluffed the two shots I tried with the alt fire in a blind panic. I'll have to give it another chance tonight (not that I have much choice due to dwindling plasma energy reserves) Really don't like the primary fire, but I guess it could be decent with a few upgrades.

Played through twice now and the pulse rifle is my least liked weapon, and I used them all quite a bit. Just get that line gun and its secondary fire mode fully upgraded. That thing is a beast, an very overpowered beast.....but very fun. dfunked I am a very slow player like you and explore every nook and cranny, and went back for some stuff i previously missed. Took me approx 20 hours my first playthrough. Most average players seem to be around 15hrs on 1st playthrough.

Finished this yesterday and really enjoyed it. It's a bit too long, last couple of chapters could have been cut as it felt more like I was the threat at that point being so overpowered and overstocked on ammo. A little shorter and I think I'd do NG+.
Really hope they remake the second one now.

It sounded like something was following me around a room last night, but I just couldn't spot it with any amount of spinning around. Turns out a corpse had attached itself to my foot and I nearly shat myself when I looked down and saw it moving around with me. The physics can be a bit janky in places, but hilarious when stuff like that catches you.
The sound design is absolutely top notch. Lovely understated orchestral score too.

Just started chapter 8. And the fucking sound got me again last night. I just stepped out of the tram, and this bloody orchestral piece of creepy music started. The sound is amazing

I really love the music that plays when it announces you have started the next chapter. It feels so menacing, its great.

I meant to have another go at the leviathan (part 2) last night, but didn't get round to it. Might have a crack at it tonight

On to chapter 7 now and I think it's starting to lose a bit of it's appeal. The section leading up to the leviathan felt like a complete slog. I'm also really not getting on with some of the more confined zero G bits, which usually seem to have those projectile ones hiding away somewhere chucking green shit at you. They're not in the least bit scary, just damn annoying.

dfunkedYour only half way matey, it shouldn't feel like a slog at all. Personally, I though the game was expertly paced. I did lose a little interest in my NG+ playthrough, however thats because I found it far too easy. Its the reason I dont normally bother with NG+ and instead just start from the beginning again with no upgrades. I had to chase that alternative ending though (I should of watched it on youtube).

It was just the section with the wheezers that I found a slog in fairness. Lost count of how many of them I jabbed in the end, but it was probably four too many. The boss fight after it was pretty fun I guess. I'm not about to ditch it, anyway.
Think I must've given up on the original around the medical section, as everything after that has felt new to me.

Those green lobbing twats can be annoying. Chapter 8 is better though! Trust me!

Yeah there are a lot of wheezers. Thought that bit dragged a bit myself.

Got all the way up to chapter 10 and thought "so where's this line gun everybody is talking about?" D'oh!

dfunked You missed it? I managed to find all the weapons on my playthrough, they aren't particularly hard to find. I did miss a few of the upgrades though on my first playthrough. I'm now patiently awaiting for them to announce a DS2 remake. I am gonna lose my shit when they announce that. As much as I love the original, I love DS2 even more. It was everything I could of wanted from a sequel, more enemies, more varied locations, more set pieces. Please make it happen EA. You have been on a roll lately making good decisions and releasing decent games. Never thought you would turn into one of my favourite publishers (can't believe I just said that).

Yeah, I clearly didn't explore medical very well at the start, and was in a bit of a blind panic later on before I left. Stopped by and grabbed it on my way to the next bit, but it feels a bit underpowered now after I've been pouring nodes into every other weapon.
All other guns were pretty hard to miss, but this one was locked away in a level 2 security room.

Oh ok, I couldn't remember where you pick it up from. I have to admit I didn't use the primary fire much, mainly stuck to the secondary fire mode. I found the primary mode slightly under-powered as well when compared to the previous games. It used to be my go to weapon, but not in the Remake.
The alt fire mode though, that's another story!

Gah, I don't know what to upgrade now.
Is there a cheat for 50 nodes or something? I just want to try them all out.

hahaha you will only be able to upgrade them all on NG+. Just get the line gun and its secondary fire upgraded...trust me!! So I started a DS2 run over the weekend, god that game is so good (like I didn't already know this). Playing on the Series X in back-compat mode, it runs at a flawless 60fps, HDR enabled, and the resolution is also quite sharp. The only downside is that the AA isn't great or it's non-existent, so you do see some jaggies, but its not too bad. Overall it is a fantastic experience. DS2's visuals and gameplay also hold up so well, we really don't need a remake yet. But I will buy it anyway.
Will definitely go on and finish the trilogy with DS3. I have only completed that game once and can't remember much of it at all.

When you all say the line gun's secondary upgrade - do you mean the mines, or do you mean a specific separate upgrade you can find? If it's the latter, where is that upgrade? I'm on chapter 9 and haven't got it yet.
