It may not be "cancelled" but travelling round 4 different Asian countries, seems a bit mental to me. Especially Thailand with 10K cases per day. Don't you still have quarantine in Malaysia anyway? Just catching up with friends who live in those places. Malaysia is still under quarantine rules, but my friend who lives there says that they are saying by December they will have langkawi as a sandbox based on Phuket. It won’t be a bar and party holiday, just I have friends who teach over there and will stay with them and catch up. in terms of danger… I get my booster next week, and I would rather be in Thailand with 10k cases and be in an area that mandates masks than be in the UK with 50k cases and everyone huddling together in the cold. Yeah, fair enough on danger if you're coming from the UK. Hope it works out, the idea of a few days in Singapore gorging on the amazing food then lazing on a lovely Thai island like Koh Mak appeals hugely to me at the moment.

It's all down to the government, if people are told to do something the vast majority comply. I've had people tell me they've gone shopping and would normally wear a mask but see that no one else is and so take it off. A good chunk follow the herd, so the herd needs guiding. It's as simple as that, but the current government philosophically cannot bear that responsibility.

Its weird how quickly you feel the impending stigma of being a paranoid cloth mouthed freak if you’re the only person in the Co-op still wearing a mask.

You all appear somewhat unreassured by Kwasi Kwartengs breakfast ministerial edicts, by which Britain is now led. He's never been wrong. Get on with your lives, it's all fine (except those who catch it and cop it of course).

They only reluctantly put masks on in the first place, only where absolutely necessary, grumbled about it being unfreedomlike, and took them off at the first opportunity. When asked about them, they always react petulantly, like a schoolboy being asked where his PE kit is. Graham Brady, Tory grandee and chair of the 1922 committee, said masks are just a form of social control, many others including the usual world-class twats like Rees-Mogg have made similar noises. Virtually no masks atall round my way. Those wearing them are beaten with rolled up Expresses.

Are there stats available for how the booster programme is going? What age groups are we up to now? This is absolutely fucking ridiculous, I can't believe Boris and chums got so close to getting out of this and are now fucking it up. AFter killing 140k people with their ineptitude over the past 18 months, I honestly thought they would make sure they got the booster programme on track, even if they gave up on masks etc. I actually have mine this afternoon. I come under the NHS worker umbrella and am 40 in about 2 weeks. I just got a text out of the blue from my local GPs saying it's time and booked it via the text. A lot of my colleagues of various ages are getting asked or had theirs already. Last two didn't do much apart from feeling a bit drained for 24hrs after the last one so hope this doesn't land me on my arse. Still worth it though, of course. Shame it really does seem people have given up. I wonder if there will be less uptake of the booster jab since everything is 'normal' now.

I think part of the reluctance for the booster is there’s a lack of understanding about vaccine effectiveness. A lot seem to think you take the vaccine and you can’t get covid at all. Ever.

Probably because everyone could see them ignoring it while claiming it applied to everyone. Our maybe because it reminds people to care about each other.

It would be something extraordinary if the government repeat the mistakes of last October/November and act too slowly to curb infections. Although last October/November they literally repeated the mistakes of Feb/March by acting too slowly to curb infections.

So many people around me have it at the moment. Lady at work's daughter, fellow football coach on my boy's team (along with 2 of the boys), my builder and his family.
It's closing in on us. Unless we are the carriers giving it to everyone else. I've been testing everyday though. It's inevitable it will come to us though, just got to hope we don't get it too bad as are still covered by the vaccine (2nd dose mid July).

Sajid is pulling his weirdly testicle shaped head out of his ass and giving a press conference.
Looking forward to some empty platitudes and boilerplate soundbites about not needing to use plan B.
Though after Kwarteng's emphatic "no" earlier today maybe they will do a u-turn.
Somehow Javid makes me miss Hancock. How the Tories manage to fill positions with individuals consistently more loathsome than the predecessor is impressive.

My sister and her entire family has had the Covids. Adults vaccinated and kids are fine so it's not been too bad, mostly effected my sister's partner the most.
Do sometimes wonder if I've had it without realising.
I think it's inevitable, currently lodging with a family who have a school age kid so I'm waiting for her to bring it into the house.

I'm out of isolation tomorrow, daughter Saturday. Son is off school with a high temperature and more ill than any of us - PCR just came back negative.
Mask-wearing mandate should never have stopped - such a small part to play for each of us, but gov couldn't be arsed.

Hancock was incompetent and corrupt but more like a puppy that pisses on the rug by accident , Javid is that plus he is into the free market and wants to privatise the NHS and make Boris happy. Javid is the dog that takes a big shit on your lap and stares at you while he does it.

Has anyone come across stats for the breakdown of people in hospital, whether they are vaccinated or not? My colleague is convinced most of the hospitalisations are unvaccinated and I can't find anything to prove or disprove that.

I hope they all catch it and get really fucking ill. How on earth can you seriously believe that there is a worldwide conspiracy to fake millions and millions of deaths?

At the hospitals I work for in the US, 98% of the people in ICU with COVID are unvaccinated.

Anecdotal evidence but when we get the updates about infections/patients my boss always adds that they aren't vaccinated.
