I tested negative on PCR as well yesterday, so just a bout of man flu for me. Fairly relieved tbh as would've been a pain in the ass having to tell people at work etc.

Give it a few days. All the parents i know who were double-vacced got it from their kids. Generally mild though and the kids were pretty much fine. Hope it's like that for you all too! Definitely my experience. And negative LFT all the way.

My wife got a negative PCR but we’re still waiting on my daughter who has what seems to be a bad cold in terms of how poorly she is.
There’s some shitty winter bugs going around, given by how ill friends and colleagues have been getting over the last fortnight or so. And the symptoms seem really hard to distinguish from Covid. It’s feeling like it’s going to be a grim winter.

Oh. Just got a Positive for my daughter. Hope it stays at the bad cold level.

My youngest has a high temperature and is currently getting a PCR... there's a lot of stuff going round isn't there!

1 in 20 ten to fourteen year olds currently have Covid according to the ONS. So your average Year 7 to Year 9 classroom will have 1.5 Covid positive kids in (if they are asymptomatic). Pretty sure infection levels of the under 18s are at the highest they've ever been in the pandemic and it's still the case of most people I know caught it from their kids.
Also - it's mental how steady the UK case rates are. The R number is basically 1. Frustrating as it means pretty much any intervention would pull it below 1 and cases would begin to steadily shrink away. Mass Mask Wearing for example is supposed to bring R down by 0.2 - so that alone would keep cases heading down as we head into winter AND we'd still keep all the other "freedoms".
Why we don't just do something/anything to get cases to shrink is beyond ridiculous.

I’ve not been keeping up with the covid news recently but that story of the girl who died on the day she was scheduled to get jabbed was pretty shocking.
One of my youngest team members at work (late 20s) has only managed three half days work in six weeks because she’s so fatigued by long covid too.
Yet daily comings and goings feel almost totally normal now.

And agree with richardiox. Wearing masks is such a low bar preventative measure. So annoying it's not mandatory still.

Yeah I keep waiting for a shift back to even slightly more precautions, but apparently no-one's doing it unless they're told to.
And even then- I was at the barber this weekend. Sign on the door- please wear a mask. Both members of staff- in masks. Every one of the 8 guys in there except me- maskless.

I dunno, it's kind of just dragging it out now. The plan is for herd immunity without overwhelming the hospitals which is what's happening.

Aye. Infect the kids, hope that the vaccines hold up for the oldies and vulnerable.

I am done with masks now unless it is a rule that I have to wear one. Seems pretty pointless when so many aren’t and I have had covid over the summer and am double jabbed. From a personal choice level it doesn’t seem to make sense for me to wear one.

I still wear one, mainly because I don't want to be associated with the manchildren who winge about wearing them rather than any belief that it's doing much good now.

I wear one if the staff of the place I'm in are wearing them. You never know who's high risk / vulnerable but still having to work around lots of strangers.

I wear one in shops but have stopped for pubs/restaurants etc, as I think it's nonsensical that you can then take it off at certain points.

Herd immunity is definitely the aim now so they aren’t going to encourage mask wearing at all, they’re still gently pushing for an increase in going back to offices and increasing that commuter traffic as well. By sorting everything will be back to the old normal but with kids missing out in school from quarantining.
You only have to see MPs sat in parliament to see how likely it is for them to encourage mask wearing.

Hospitalisations are dropping pretty heavily and the general consensus is that it's unlikely to mutate much worse so it's looking like we're probably doing the right thing to be honest.

Went on a couple of buses, London, Friday night. All the windows open on both buses, and the majority wearing masks, as I was. In pubs, when going from table to the loo, as we are still sticking to outside drinking.
Ventilation is key. And when it gets cold, dress appropriately!

it seems to gone a bit quiet about the Mu variant mentioned at start of September. Lets hope the world can get back to normal
Thankfully at my work we are able to choose how much we go in. Annoying there is some that should be going in to eg scan stuff for their job but are pushing the work on to others (and its not few pages to scan) this offal pouch at work is really bad for pushing work onto others

Sure I read this week that Mu variant in the USA got beat down by Delta. It can't compete anywhere that Delta is dominant already - which is everywhere pretty much.

FFP2/FFP3 masks definitely aren’t pointless, no matter what others are doing.
