I've had a terrible persistent cough for 3 nights now Barely slept at all as it's keeping me awake. I assume it's just a heavy cold but you can't help fearing the worst these days

No harm in ordering your free LFD kit for times like that. Not that I really fancy testing myself, but I've got them handy for whenever I need to.
Only takes a minute to fill in the details and they arrived the next day IIRC.

Yeah, I've a few LF kits. Whenever any of us feel a bit Covid, we do a check.
Hope you and yours get well soon Dougs. My wife tends to get vomitous when sick as well which is a worry as she's diabetic. We've had to be very careful over the last 18 months as I'm also asthmatic with lung scarring from pneumonia/pleurisy.

I'm not sure if its been said here, but apparently the most common symptoms of COVID for those who have been fully vaccinated are (most prevalent first):
Running nose Headache Sneezing Sore Throat Loss of smell
Unvaccinated its:
Headache Runny nose Sore throat Fever Persistent cough
Up to 70% of children with COVID have no symptoms, but where they do have symptoms, they tend to be the similar to those who are fully vaccinated.
So, for vaccinated, the old "fever, continous cough, loss of smell" stuff that the Govt are still saying to watch for is a lot less valid.
That info is from the ZOE Covid Study.

Makes it even harder to spot.

One of the reasons they didn't update the symptoms list is as it can be seen as inconsistency which undermines the overall public health message.

I still have my app running and lo and behold, got pinged last night re a contact at the weekend.
Took some time to think but dawned on me that Dad's Taxi (me) had picked up my eldest and a couple of his mates...
One call later and yes, one lad is positive as of a check on Monday.
PCR sorted so we'll see what happens.

Apparently it’s ripping through my kids school at the mo. Which to be fair managed through pretty unscathed the last year. Truly feels like the plan is to normalise it now.

My wife has just started university this week and already had this afternoon’s in person session cancelled because the lecturer is ill.

My brother in law is in Melbourne, and they've got to get a PCR if they feel ill at all. If positive you are taken to one of those immigrant concentrations camps in the desert and left to die.

Oh, I didn't realise a runny nose is the main symptom - I didn't think it was a symptom at all. I am now wondering if I had it the other week as I did indeed have a sort throat and runny nose as well as being extremely run down. I put it down to being just a normal cold (and everyone else in the family has caught it). The thing is, since then I have managed to catch chicken pox, or rather, have chicken pox. I don't think I caught it, but that it has flared up with being run down on top of a load of work stress and home stress. It usually is shingles if you have had it before, but this is definitely chicken pox. Itchy as fuck as well

The Head had it a few weeks ago, hence why she thought she was quite safe. Feeling a bit more shabby today, am jacking off work after a couple of meetings this morning.

My wife has just started university this week and already had this afternoon’s in person session cancelled because the lecturer is ill. Last year we managed almost three weeks before suspending teaching altogether. The council and local public health authority worked with both unis in the city to shut us both down weeks before the autumn notreally lockdown. I think the determination is to not get so drastic this year. Individual classes will probably drop all over the shop though.

Had an absolute bell-whiff tell us Tuesday evening he won't be in tomorrow as he's been feeling poorly for the last two days. Lo and behold, he's positive. So I'm off for a PCR. 8 days before my wedding. The twat.

If it's not the 'rona, it's proper manflu doing the rounds - Is 'the worst cold ever' going around?Everyone's forgotten how to handle a proper cold, thanks to mostly not being sneezed on by randoms for the past 18 months.

Yeah I've had a pretty bad cold this week and I'd very much forgot what it felt like.
Also nice to hear a few boffins say it's very unlikely for it to mutate into something worse this morning. Something about if the protein that the vaccine targets changes much more the virus wouldn't have anyway to actually get 8nto the cells it's trying to infect.

I'd be interested to know how many of those people actually had Covid that just wasn't getting picked up by the shitty lateral flow tests.

The vast majority imo. Someone I work with said she'd had a really bad cold and went on holiday. Sure as eggs are eggs, I reckon it was Covid.

Some randomer jumped into my conversation with a friend on twitter as we were talking about one DUP MLA not towing the party line by casting doubt on vaccines, coming up with some insane statement that as many people hospitalised with covid also have been double jabbed. Guy had a pop at me saying I didn't know the facts either, defending the politician. Checked the guys profile and sure enough, his entire fucking timeline is anti mask, anti vax to the point where he proudly put up a picture of the Ivermectin he bought.
To be fair he also has the profile picture and name of Booker Dewitt from Bioshock Infinite, so I already knew I wasn't gonna like him before I found out he was anti vax.
