I remember in my old job a big department wide meeting called by HR. They were concerned that 40% of sick days were on Monday and Friday and made insinuations that it was suspicious that so much sickness happened either side of the weekend. Someone pointed out that with a 5 day working week, having 40% of sickness on Mon/Fri is statistically correct and the meeting felt pretty awkward. That’s absolutely brilliant!

Yeah. Fairly sure it's, HR-speaking, better for you to have an illness that keeps you off for a couple of months than to have 10 sick days in a year, spread over 5 chunks of 2

Please don’t buy James Dyson’s shitty gimmick headphones- whether or not you’re concerned about being a superspreader:

I don’t think you have to ask people not to buy that.

I actually thought the Dyson press release had come a few days early.

Both my sister and her husband have caught it this week. She's about to give birth any day now but thankfully it's just cold-like symptoms at the moment.

In news that will surprise nobody here, a large clinical study shows Ivermectin does not, in fact, cure covid.

I’ve finally had it after 2 years of avoiding. Thankfully pretty mild symptoms which have pretty much gone aside from a bit of throat gunk. Last day of isolation today, although was still getting a positive on lft yesterday and not a faint line either, which is a slight worry as I have plans for tomorrow night and would like a neg for piece of mind. Those of you who’ve had it, how long did it take to test negative again?

My parents both currently have it, worried as they both have health problems but it seems to be just cold symptoms for them. In our house my son had it last month, my daughter 2 weeks ago and my wife this past week (tested negative yesterday on day 5). Just me to go

Going in for a pcr test now. I basically have a massive cold with a super runny nose and I can’t smell a thing, but did two negative self tests. I read it’s not uncommon for those tests to be negative during the first two days though.

Had a student come in to tell us he was positive and symptomatic and asking what to do next yesterday
1. Get the fuck out of our office 2. Do it right now

We have had quite a few like that too. These are supposed to be the new wave of bright young things.
/facepalm
1: Don't come in spreading it about. 2: Follow the guidance that has repeatedly been issued.

Just had new guidance from the nursery: no more requirements for any LFT or PCR tests. Just general make sure kids stay at home if unwell as per normal pre pandemic.

Isn’t that the guidance everywhere is giving?

My wife just came home with a few boxes of LFTs. Apparently the school was told to destroy all remaining kits.
Nothing to do with charging for them now perhaps?

Yeah, guidance out today says don't hand any remaining kits out. Probably expect us to put a price sticker on them and hand deliver them to Boots too.

Was the same guidance for all settings distributing kits, e.g. pharmacies have been recommended to give them away if they had any left. It's a condition that test kits can't be used outside of the use case agreements that end today - might be a MHRA thing, can't remember.
Reminds me, start keeping an eye on the use by dates on your LFDs - some of the packs handed out early are hitting them and they won't be accepted soon if you still have reason to use proof of a result.

My wife is due to give birth in May and has just started with a bit of what we hope is just a cold.
On the subject of work I'm going need clarification as a contractor. If I was to test positive I'll be able to work but I've been informed that the internal staff policy is still stay at home. I know what the right thing to do is but doing the right thing means I'll lose pay and have another mark against my name for sickness.

Would be interesting to see how many kits 'we' bought that will end up unused and in landfill whilst still holding decent use by dates.

...how long did it take to test negative again? Got my 2nd negative LFT today, which is 9 days now since my first positive. My sis caught it a few weeks ago and was still testing positive up to 10 days later at which point she was asked to go back to work regardless (NHS).

Thanks BB, glad you’re negative now. I’m still positive at day 10, hopefully change tomorrow otherwise I’ll give it the weekend just to be sure and should be fine by Monday.

Hope you're rid of it soon. At least you've got the weekend as a buffer. I'd imagine that as long as you don't have any symptoms like a high temperature etc then you should be good after 10 days.
My final 2 days of positive testing were faint lines on the test too but I'm not sure if the faintness of the line correlates with viral load or not.

About to find out how good these vaccines are I guess...my 84 year old mum has caught it from her cleaner, who my mum made her drive her to the shops. Tbf, the cleaner tested negative that morning and it was only picked up asymptomatically the next day when she had to test for work. She's on the phone to 111 trying to get the anti-virals.

If it helps, my old dear has had it for the last week or so and other than being wiped out and having a nasty cough, seems to have avoided any of the properly nasty side affects. Fingers crossed it’s the same for Mrs. Dougs Sr.

That's basically how the old dear is too. Knackered with a cough. She's a tough old bird, sure she'll kick its arse.

Hopefully she's got there, but it's 119 to order tests for antiviral treatments.
