The government strategy is basically wash it's hands of the whole affair… Presumably while singing Happy Birthday twice. We’re all still doing that…right? I've been making a point of singing it really loudly, even when washing hands at work or using public conveniences.

Boris will commemorate the occasion and remember the dead by sinking a few glasses of Rose in the garden.

First day back in an office for 2 years. Feels wierd if I'm honest. Way more talking than I'm used to.

My daughter now has it for the second time (first was last November). Very mild symptoms, though she was coughing a lot yesterday which prompted me to do an LFT.
She thinks she picked it up at karate last week. She thinks this because (although she didn't say anything till yesterday) that her partner that evening had come to karate despite being positive, because her mum said it was ok now. Great.

Bollocks. Tested positive last night- my first bout of Covid-19.
Headaches, someone standing on my back and temp between 38.3 and 39.4. Have consigned myself to the living room and will have meals supplied around thd door like some low rent Howard Hughes. No appetite for playing much though - not liking looking at a screen - so podcasts are filling the gaps.
Had a trip planned to a London gig Friday evening but child 1 will now be going with my better half.

I’m curious what people are doing when they test positive? I get some things like holidays or large gatherings you probably don’t go to but what about everything else?

Depends how you're feeling and what it is I guess. General rule of thumb I imagine is not to see people if avoidable whilst feeling unwell. Much like any other cold that knocks you on your arse.

Yeah, spreading disease as little as possible is the imperative. The same for any illness.

Can guarantee that's not happening. It wasn't happening for lots of people at its height as they weren't in jobs that allowed them to do that. No chance now, lots of employers will be demanding people go to work.

We have been informed the company regards it as a normal sickness now and will count against our disciplinary record. Also means you might not get sick pay for it depending on your sickness record.
So I'm fully expecting to get it once every few months and fuck knows how many people I will spread it to In that time.

ecosse Many UK employers have a “you’re sick more than twice in a year and you’re in trouble” policy. I’ve heard it said that this came about partly as a result of the traditional British absence due to alcohol, either where it had been consumed (thus hangover) or was planned to be (“the football’s on; I’m not going in”).

Wow, didn’t realise. Don’t get me wrong , if I’m off consistently HR will ask why but pretty sure it would be over multiple years.

Employment rights are shit for lots at the moment, let alone when changes are made in the name of productivity or deregulation.

That "no more than x instances of illness" is utterly fucked up.
It's why I've gone in at times when I was functioning, more or less, but when I really should have stayed home. Because there's the concern that if I didn't go in, what if I was actually really sick one day and couldn't go in?
Also means I've been at work with absolutely crushing migraines at times, and basically not done any work, but needed to be present to make I don't get marked down absent.
To be fair I also have been at work utterly hungover at times so I can kind of understand the need for the rule, but still think it's pretty ridiculous. It's not like it stopped me drinking (especially in those jobs I've utterly hated).

If you've been somewhere a while, chances are you're quite well protected. But new to a company and your rights aren't worth shit.

Go classic with it, wear a T-shirt that says "I went into work with Covid like a team player and all I got was this lousy T-shirt"

Where are these workplaces where people don’t go in when they’re sick? People are always in with colds and other things, as long as they can just about function most people still go in.
Given the government messaging, and tests not being free after this week then everyone’s going to be going into work all the time with this.

Other than being tired when I had Covid a month ago, I thought I’d gotten away with it lightly. A few weeks later and I’ve been battered with headaches, trouble breathing, and constant pins and needles in my feet and hands.
I’m getting annoyed now.

We all had an unwritten rule - wfh when feeling crap but well enough to work.
Fortunate that nature of our work meant we could.
Closed the office for good in May 21 so we are all 100% wfh with a bi-monthly meet-up.
Company also ran an allocation of Covid days during lockdown period if you were sick or had to look after family member. These were over and above holiday/normal sickness.

Just done another LFT and the T line is much bolder than the C line. First test was other way round. Does that give an indication of 'track'. T will get stronger then lighter as you recover?

I felt shit a few months ago after my third jab. I work from home now but my line manager said, in a call - "leave your laptop on but rest and don't tell HR".
I'm glad I at least work in a company where middle management recognise the shitness of HR. Don't think I've ever encountered a good HR dept.

I remember in my old job a big department wide meeting called by HR. They were concerned that 40% of sick days were on Monday and Friday and made insinuations that it was suspicious that so much sickness happened either side of the weekend.
Someone pointed out that with a 5 day working week, having 40% of sickness on Mon/Fri is statistically correct and the meeting felt pretty awkward.
