Holding the referendum was one thing; IMMEDIATELY acting on it, and proclaiming the decision was sacred was another; then opting for the worst (HARD BREXIT 4 LYF) possible interpretation of it yet another. Also, Labour and the Lib Dems offering no resistance. 48% (despite a massive misinformation campaign) left high and dry by a bunch of shitweasels.

No resistance?! Labour wasted three years fannying about with a 2nd referendum before finally realising it was utterly divisive and basically impossible.

I think that is probably the largest contributor to them being such a bunch of passive fannies at the moment.

Cameron having an referendum as a sop to the right wing for party unity worked out really fucking well didn't it? Fucking cunt. Him, Farage and Johnson ....I hate them more than I hate Liverpool, Chelsea and City combined, multiplied by infinity. So much what both of these posts say. I fucking hate them all so much. The utterly corrupt bunch of self-serving cunts. Also adding JRM on there for the full set.

Brexit was far to big a decision to give to the general public, when 90% of people didn't understand the basic implications and even then got their facts from lying newspapers and politicans. The result being you have more than a few idiots, who have been conditioned by the Sun & Daily Mail for decades that muslims and romanians were the devil and would simply vanish, that bexit would somehow take us all back to the time to a rose tinted period that never existed where bobbies roamed the streets, you could leave your front door open without worry of being robbed, all while Abdul in the local corner shop would dissappear in a puff of smoke and be replaced with Ronnie Barker. If the average idiot could even articulate what they voted for, depressingly I wouldn't put it being a million miles from the truth. I don't mind giving the decision to the general public, but it seems like referendums on massive changes should require a 2/3rds majority to pass.
But agreed on the press conditioning. The Daily Express was the worst. I remember seeing it every day when I went into the supermarket on the way home from work, and I think I counted one day in an entire year where they didn't have a headline about either asylum seekers or eu bureaucrats.

Daily Express - As Maddie and Diana were in EU countries when they disappeared/died it's all the foreigns fault.

As with most Brexit issues, it’s a bit unfair to be angry at the poor decisions made by the public. People didn’t know enough and those they should have been able to trust were liars.
Propaganda exists for a reason and people were bombarded by it for months.
My in laws voted for it because ‘we never voted to be in the EU, It was just supposed to be about trade’. They’ve had jobs that they had to be smart for and believed that shit (also anti electric cars and renewables, anti climate change, anti immigrant Daily Mail readers yet are labour voters).
We’re out now and won’t be in within a timescale that is good for any of us, but I think(?) few on here are amongst the worst hit.

Fuck those who voted without knowing what would happen, either make an informed decision or abstain.
If the bad only happened to those who voted for it then that'd be fine, this affects everyone and a lot of those who voted didn't seem to give a shit about reality just their stupid fucking fantasy land bullshit.

I mean, the media and politicians whipped it up, it got 70% engagement and it was a binary choice, with little in the way of nuance. Blaming the public is a bit unfair.

I thought everyone knew what they were voting for? That's the defence I always hear. Also the people who voted to leave while actively benefitting from EU membership have absolutely no sympathy from me.

The fact is the referendum was not legally binding despite what loony Leave gammons said. The tories just went ahead with no plan and some tories wanted to ahead as their scummy friends will benefit from leaving eg water companies dumping shit into the sea as they don't have to worry with "pesky" EU rules

Strong disagree.
Either people's votes matter, or they don't.
If they don't, let's wrap all this democracy lark up and go home and let a dictator take over.
Or if the votes matter, then people are responsible for the decision they make.
You can't make a meaningful decision and not be held responsible for it.

Since we're on the third PM in juuuuust over a year, all with pretty wildly varying policies, there might be an argument (far beyond my political nous) that the tories are dictatorial right now.

What pisses me off is that I’ve met a fair few dual citizens who voted leave and they still have their freedom of movement.
Some even boast about it.

This is a bit like how I've still never (knowingly) had COVID. I'm yet to work closely with or have a friend that voted to leave... (Ministers/spads excluded)

I thought Whizzo's post was the same gammon I was making fun of that voted leave despite having a house in Italy. Nope, another idiot who thought, "well its not goin got affect me!"
No sympathy
What is sad, is the morons that brexit only failed because we didn't get the "right brexit" Leave supporters never had clear one goal
