To be fair, they have been investing a lot in the town in last few years. Building work has been pretty much constant for about 5 years or so. I wasn't that surprised when it came out they had overspent, although certainly wasn't expecting it to be by that much. While there is and has been a lot of building work in Birmingham not much of that is council funded, those skyscrapers shooting up everywhere aren't anything to do with the council. Ive always felt Birmingham City Council is way to big and Birmingham would be better if it were split into areas of the city like most other large cities. User Vandelay was referring to Woking council.

ECHR comes first. They'll keep undermining and underfunding the judiciary in a covert manner in the meantime, then go full banned species of dog on domestic judges when they can't blame an organisation with 'Europe' in its' title for the outcome of their vile orthodoxy.

Anyone who retains social and cultural power in spite of them is what drives them nuts as it transcends into rights and critical thinking.
"Lefty Academia", the Judiciary, "experts", the teaching profession, social progress and cultural awareness, civil service policymaking, the youth.
The things standing in the way of truly delivering their wet dream of a low government, libertarian capitalist free for all where the strongest and richest deservedly and fairly prosper. In huge houses in a derelict country.
A wet dream where it's mere coincidence that a huge percentage of those who deservedly prosper are born into wealth and advantage.

Jenrick is spouting absolute bollocks and he knows it, I guess he'll get a friendly headline from the thickie right wing press but it's a pathetic threat.

Yeah it's all just sound and fury, it signifies nothing and is being spoken by an idiot. It's never getting through the commons, the lords or the courts. It's not even going to be proposed as a bill.

Have to see if it's in the King's Speech for the 4th session. Lots has been promised but rare that they all make the list.

Do we think other councils are set to collapse after Birmingham or were they so spectacularly badly managed that they're a special case?

Birmingham is apparently down to an equal payment case that now needs to be paid, rather than being badly run. Also didn't know it was a Tory administration until 3 months ago. Either way though, loads from.both sides are struggling.

Do we think other councils are set to collapse after Birmingham or were they so spectacularly badly managed that they're a special case? Look at Total debt as a multiple of core spending power and draw a line above 4x. Residents of Warrington shouldn’t be expecting their bins to be emptied any time soon.

Do we think other councils are set to collapse after Birmingham or were they so spectacularly badly managed that they're a special case? It's working as intended, slash funding to the bone and then pile more fiscal responsibilities into local authorities. "Labour did this"* and walk away with a nonchalant whistle *Doesn't matter who's actually in charge.

Life in prison for lefty lawyers is interesting Similar with the trans issue, how many people is this actually appealing to? Surely, even as they are down to the absolute dregs of their voter base, most of people hear 'life imprisonment for legal advice' and think 'Yeah, that probably isnt as bad as, say, rape and/or murder'. It just makes them sound insane.
