Iirc, the IMF report doesn't mention Brexit, but they do put a lot of it down to the UK being very reliant on Liquid Natural Gas.
The weird thing being we're one of the larges producers of natural gas in Europe (behind only Norway and the Netherlands I think). You'd think we'd be in one of the better positions to weather the energy price crisis.
So I assume, as usual, it's down to the Conservatives bowing to big business at the expense of the country and that decision to let the gas companies get rid of their reserve?

I only found out yesterday all electricity produced in the country is charged at the rate that the highest costs to source. So, if we produced 40% of our annual electricity from renewables; which cost less than “X”; then we produce the remainder from gas turbines*, which cost “X”. All of that is sold to us at the highest rate, and not the rate it costs to produce. I didn’t understand the bureaucracy, but why is it isn’t sold at an average cost of the various sources, means we are being butt fucked over what we pay. * Other sources are available, but you are always charged at the rate that highest costs.

It gets better. With all the talk of becoming energy independent so that Putin or some other nutter can’t hold the U.K. to ransom again, also suffers from a similar problem. Because the companies generating the power are legally bound to get the best price for their shareholders, the energy will get sold at the going rate i.e if they can flog it for more in France, they’ll export it.
Either guaranteed contracts that always pay the market rate will have to be put in place or an export ban with compensation.
Guess who will pay for both of those?

Yeah the BBC has this article on it. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64471262I can only think of one party that benefits from that, and it's definitely not the consumers. If only there was another way of doing energy...

And we deserve him. The tactic of making politics so vile that virtually no-one wants to vote atall seems to be working.

Only saw this today but I really don't think Hancock will want to return to the GMB studio after this encounter. Susanna Reid this time gutting him like a fish.I can only assume he's under a contractual obligation to appear unless he likes being kicked by women on TV, I'm not kink shaming.

Tbf Susanna and Richard have absolutely outshone the BBC on the issue of giving MPs a fucking kicking.

Listening to PMQs has left me with a bad feeling that Tories are going to go hard on the trans issue when the next election comes around. Sunak was as rubbish as ever, but I can see his arguments about Starmer not standing up for "women" is going to cut through for some people.
I can see this getting even nastier than it already is and neither women nor transpeople are going to come out of it for the better.

Bit of a weird angle to focus on given that the vast majority of people don't care about culture war nonsense when it comes to voting. Guess it's the only card Tories can play that could galvanise some voters in their favor cause they fucked it everywhere else.

So it might help stave off losses to righter wing parties.

Lots of sound bites of Starmer and other Labour MPs struggling/divided on questions like "What is a woman?" though.

Lots of sound bites of Starmer and other Labour MPs struggling/divided on questions like "What is a woman?" though. Labour do need to figure out their party stance on this but I don't think it's as big an issue for people as certain elements of Tories will make out. Even something like "this is clearly an issue for people but our first priority will be sorting out heating bills and cost of living for everyone"

Meanwhile, the bank is about to raise interest rates again.
Oh and Shell becomes the latest company to report record profits.
A recession and kick after kick in the teeth for the proles, but halcyon days for the rich.

So many of them are lame ducks, now. It's probably a good thing that Johnson seems to have lost interest in being an MP now.
I am still convinced we get a GE this year.

Meanwhile, the bank is about to raise interest rates again. This may also contribute to my thinking a GE happens sooner rather than later. Tories have always relied on "good with the economy" but they've absolutely fucked that in the eyes of everyone, even the die hards. They may just throw in the towel.

I don't think that's likely. I don't see a situation where any government would call an election it thinks it's going to lose. Lots will lose their seats and their mates' access to all those lovely government contracts.

Thinking we're going to have a general election any time soon is wishful thinking.
These fucks will cling on to power for as long as possible. There is absolutely no way for the opposition to force an election.

Yeah. No government called a GE because it fancied a spell in opposition, you madman. ”I have a plan Rish! Let’s call an election now and - and this is the clever bit - lose it!” said no SPAD ever.
