Did Kuenssberg push back against Braverman at all, or did she just sit there nodding like a particularly vacuous bobblehead? (I have a feeling I already know the answer.) I didn't watch it, but the article I read didn't mention anything like that.
If I was the interviewer, the first thing I'd have asked after that would have been "But you conservatives have been going on and on about those things for years now, and it doesn't seem to be making you any more popular or making anyone's lives better. Surely the message from the voters is that they want *less* of that and more focus on actual progress?"

I know there's no point engaging with the outrage bait of Waitrose Tommy Robinson - cunts are going to cunt after all - but I'm a bit confused and wonder if I'm missing something. How is the Mayor of Birmingham Muslim?
Richard Parker isn't. Or is he talking about the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Chaman Lal, who is, er, Sikh?

Bill in the rain Exactly right! However, with Kuenssberg being the actual interviewer in this case, slavish acquiescence is about all one could expect.

If you look at the factcheck someone posted on the last page it explains that story that he's reposted (from 2017 no less) is all wrong.
The muslim mayors thing is actually 'these places have had a muslim mayor at one time in history. And most of them are the ceremonial mayor positions anyway'.

Aha! Thanks Bill - and Reviewer for the fact check. So, confirmation that he's an ever bigger twat than I thought. Which hardly seems possible, but you can't fault the man for working hard at it.

I'm surprised that Fox would spread complete shite because he's a racist twat who just lost his London Assembly election deposit.

Not a site I thought I'd ever link to and say this is actually worth reading rather than the writer is clearly mental, ConservativeHome on the reality of the local elections. conservativehome.com/2024/05/05/goodbyeee/

That was always one of the pleasures of Andrew Neil when he was doing big interviews. Even though he was literally in charge of the Spectator, he was very happy to ask whatever question made the politician most uncomfortable regardless of rosette. He’d definitely have asked the “well it hasn’t been working so far, has it?” question.

I just had a waking dream of a transatlantic deal where Trump might offer people the chance to kick Laurence Fox in the balls as hard as they can for £10, on the provision that they know the money will go to fund his legal defence.
For some a moral quandary. Not me, though. Sign me up for twenty whacks. Always loved your steaks, Mr President.

Most surprising thing about that front page is that 3 in 4 young adults actually answer phone calls!

I do wonder if the recent losses in council election will mess with labour's chance at the general election? (to be clear I mean the ones that voted labour in the past but refused to voted this time)

It looks as though the Tories have learned from their latest bout of electoral defeats, and will be shifting back to a centre-right position, away from the culture war nonsense peddled by-- Nope - can't write that with a straight face. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cv2xly8vxreoOf course they're quintupling down on this shit. It's literally all they have left.

Saw a clip from a Beth Rigby interview today where he was still claiming that when he's out and about knocking on doors (is he fuck) that nobody is telling him they want an election. So utterly deluded.
He's clearly going to cling on until January now.

Sunak is working through the five stages of grief about his political career, hopefully he gets to acceptance sooner rather than later and calls an election.

The election is going to be shit show, sadly not just for the tories. I hope Labour does not cave in to the crazies to get their vote back as I will not vote for them if they did, not sure who to vote for then as Lib dems is not going to get anyway - the rest are trash

Having hung out with some people who were at the London counts over the weekend. It appears the briefings about the contest being narrow came from both camps. The Labour people there shat themselves about turnout being low (or so they thought) and that implying the low confidence in Khan would turn in to low votes generally.
Appears that the briefings to the papers also totally came from those people at the counts and it generally spread like wildfire through the Labour party locally in WhatsApp groups and so on.
Long boring Friday basically.
