The locals have certainly been a disaster for the Tories and pretty good for Labour, at least from a narrative perspective. The numbers could have been better for Labour though.
But, I don't know how much we can really read into it all. Local elections are a tough one to really draw many conclusions from. Only a few places were actually voting and you don't have anything from Scotland.

It's pretty flawed analysis on limited data, it's also from yesterday.

If Labour can't get a majority at the next GE - and a sizeable one, at that - surely all is lost.
It might not be quite on the scale of Blair vs. Major in 1997, but something big has to happen here. These feckless, amoral, mendacious sacks of shit need to be kicked out en masse.

The thing is they do all this stupid analysis but they'll never review whether any of this analysis was correct after the fact. It's just pointless content for content's sake to make themselves look like they're doing a worthwhile job.

There’s also 14 years of gerrymandering to fight.

There was one but of analysis showing there was a lot of potential tactical voting - against conservatives.
I expect a lot more of this at the GE, so we will see votes going to Labour and Lib Dems in the seats they were second last time, and people won't be voting for greens and independents like they do at local elections. I think the reform vote is a vote for reform though, but I think the danger for Labour is there that do a deal with conservatives, even though they said they would no

I honestly think Reform's plan is to do as much damage to the Tories as possible at the next general election, at which point they'll begin negotiations to merge both parties and the heavily weakened Conservatives will have little choice but to accept.
It makes me feel ill saying it, but I'm convinced Farage will somehow be leader of the 'New Conservative Party' by the time Labours first term comes to an end.

How dare the public vote for all these Muslims against their will.

These Muslims sound like industrious public-minded folk, good for them.

Yeah it is strange you don't get a lot more greens on TV! Although they are a bit nuts sometimes. Their London mayoral manifesto promised to end murder in the capital, like not reduce, end it. Was there any mention of, “All crime is committed by the living, therefore life itself will be the crime.” And, if so, is JudgesAnderson and Dredd available?

I see Rat Face is taking the local election results really well. The local election results from 624 AD are just in: The mayor of London is a Christian The mayor of Birmingham is a Christian The mayor of Leeds is Christian The mayor of Blackburn - Christian etc.

I think what this does show is that Muslims that can vote quite often do.
Maybe everyone else could learn a thing or 2 from them.

It's so stupid. You can't equate local elections to a GE. People vote very differently, if they vote at all. Prof John Curtice is who to pay attention to, not this 6th form attempt. Blackpool South and the Mayorals are better indicators.

If these elections prove anything it’s that journalists and pundits should probably stop taking their talking points from Tory WhatsApp groups.

One of the WhatsApp "leaks" was more like a press release than something anyone would ever write in a message, a completely invalid look behind the curtain as they knew they were being made public.

Braverman saying that the results show Sunak needs to move to the right, get tougher on immigration, leave the human rights convention and get tougher on 'identity issues'.
Cos that's been making them so popular so far, rather than trying to make peoples' quality of life better...

Jenkyns was on Sky saying the same thing, plus a dose of ‘bring back Boris’ because she’s one of the thickest bastards who ever lived.

Basically, all the arseholes on the rounds this morning are either briefing against Rishi and advocating a lurch to the right (Jenkyns actually called Street a ‘Leftie’) or have been sent out to die with 800 variations of the word ‘delivering’.
The problem being nobody wants what they are delivering on either front so just fuck off.

Just like with the London mayoral race, the media are trying to create a narrative of uncertainty. Because it's more compelling than knowing Labour will win, but not knowing by how much.

Did Kuenssberg push back against Braverman at all, or did she just sit there nodding like a particularly vacuous bobblehead? (I have a feeling I already know the answer.)

Its interesting that Labour’s main tactic seems to be just to stand aside and let the Tories completely torpedo themselves. Can’t say it isn’t working though.

The thing I don’t really get is that surely by constantly playing down Labours dominance they are also removing any chance of complacency and people staying at home?
‘Oh, the tories aren’t getting completely fucked after all? Maybe I had better get out and vote then’
I dunno, I suppose it’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t but it really is verging into ministry of truth territory now.

I still think people are reading a lot more malice into rumours going on the news; when it was almost certainly boredom and hangovers on Friday while nothing was going on. Nature abhors a vacuum and all that.
