Good fucking fuck Victoria Atkins is going to have a tilt at leadership. I don't know that she's even aware that she is white, let alone how many knives 'leader of the party' could possibly involve. All she knows is sugar lobbying

He’s been getting very upset the last few days that people keep replacing his name on the local Tory posters with those of his alter egos.

Who the fuck is Victoria Atkins?

I’ll hopefully enjoy a Labour victory tomorrow but I’m certain that they won’t have enough time to fix the mistakes of the last 14 years
The Tories will be back in power before we know it, the country is just too stupid not to fall for their propaganda long term

Starmer needs to stop shitting on our collective lawns though. The EU stuff earlier today was utterly stupid and unnecessary

I remember recently there was that business of the conservative social media account using a Martin Lewis clip regards to confirming Labour tax increases.
Martin Lewis's response was that he wasn't talking about tax rises, rather an unannounced policy discussed with a Labour MP, that was left out of the manifesto, which would be a "positive change" of some form.
I do hope that Labour have a few more radial ideas up their sleeve, that they've been holding back on.

I do feel like I said this a year ago while everyone was doom wondering about a Tory recovery. But they have been fucked since PartyGate/Truss. It's like Black Wednesday or the Winter of Discontent or the Iraq War + 2008. Stuff just so fundamentally discredits a government nobody gives a fuck what they say, it's telling that people just openly laugh at Sunak or call him a liar to his face. That's been true for Sunak's entire time in office, not a single person has really cared what he said other than when he's leaving.
In a similar vein they are currently so fractious, riddled with infighting, out of touch and genuinely useless they are not getting anywhere near the reigns of power again until they've spent around 7-10 years processing the stages of grief. Though at this point the Lib Dems may just replace them because they are that bad.
All the while Starmer has very sensibly, if boringly, just been sat in the centre ground of where British politics actually is. With actual discipline and genuine competence. Like a year ago where is this miracle unprecedented Tory recovery going to come from? As it's not Robert Jenrick or Braverman, they will just drive them further from the British public.

Completely agree, which is why I get so angry when Kier (his team, really) box themselves into incredibly stupid corners. No-one has really asked but you fucking done it now. Can't back out

Fingers crossed tomorrow everyone, that the Tories get maximally fucked into high heaven. It's been a long 14 years. Hopefully this is the start of something better for the country.

Am I the only one who initially misread this as "Vote Farage! Get 'em!!" (as in, the mail was encouraging people to vote for Farage as a way to attack Labour)

Danno meh - no government can be beholden to a previous government and all that. I imagine there will be small, incremental moves to be closer to Europe over the next decade and then at some point after, SM/CU membership will be on the table and no-one will care what was said years ago. That's all predicated on a good run mind you and no scandals that bring them down. Quite a big IF really.

How does their version of tactical voting work? Surely it boils down to 'don't vote reform!'?

Twas ever thus. Great British public get to a point where they decide they've had enough of the current lot and thar it's time to give the other team a go. Then they have a bit of a run and it turns out they over-promised/under-delivered, get mired in scandal, we're holding the bag when a Bad Thing happened and then it's time to swap back again. In 2010 it didn't matter what labour said. They were fucked. In 2024 doesn't matter what the Tories say, they're fucked.

Oh and as for where the recovery comes from, give it time. Like I've said a few times here it wasn't that long ago that people were confidently predicting Starmer would never be PM and he'd be a care taker leader while labour spends an election cycle or two in opposition while they rebuild their reputation.
Now look at them.

Just seen this in politico's playbook email. If Sunak loses his seat, which is looking possible, he'll be the first incumbent PM to lose his seat in a GE ever in the history of everything.
